Anonymous – You would be an excellent candidate for tubal reversal after the Pomeroy procedure. You doctor did not take out the whole tube, just a short segment of each tube. Hello my name is Deshun and i had a tubal ligation done in Aug of 2006. my operative report says one tube measuring 1.2 cm in length and 0.6 on diameter and the other was 2.1 cm and 0.5 in daimeter submitted entirely. Does that mean he took the whole tube? It was the pomroy procedure. Would I be a good canidate for tubal reversal. I have remarried and would like to have a child with my husband

I had a partial bilateral salpingectomy in 2002 when I was 21 years old. I had 3 c-section when I decide to get my TL done. The pahtology report shows a segment a fallopian tube measures 2.5 x 0.8 cms from the right,and 2.5 x 0.7 cms from left. Both fallopian tube unremarkable cross section. skt – The portions of tube removed and sent to pathology are always less than the amount of tube that was tied off. If 3 cm segments were tied, your chances of getting pregnant after tubal ligation reversal will be very good.

No one can tell for certain who will or who will not get pregnant; however, natural pregnancy at the age of 48 is very unlikely.
IVF with donor eggs would give you a 50% chance of pregnancy success and tubal reversal or IVF with your own eggs would be less than 2% chance,

Olivia – A pregnancy is possible after bilateral tubal ligation but the likelihood is 1% or less and if pregnancy does occur after tubal ligation, the risk of ectopic pregnancy is extremely high. For women who want to become pregnant after bilateral tubal ligation, tubal ligation reversal surgery (tubotubal anastomosis) is much more successful in terms of the chances of becoming pregnant (70% overall at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center) and has a lower risk for ectopic pregnancy than when a pregnancy occurs spontaneously after tubal ligation without a reversal.

I had my second child in October of 2009 and my doctor did a bilateral tubal ligation pomeroy technique. I am not sure if it was modified or not but I do know the scar from the surgery is right on the bottom of my belly button not underneath it if that helps any. I had my first child in August of 2004 delivered by c-section and when I was approximately 6 months pregnant I had to terminate the pregnancy due to the fetus having hydrops and caused complication with his development. My third pregnancy was with my little girl, the pregnancy went well. No complications and she is perfectly healthy and 2 days later I had the tubal done. I am now married and my husband and I would love nothing more than to bring a baby in the world together. With this history, in your professional opinion are the odds on my side, the surgery does seem lower cost than some other places I have researched but it is still a large amount of money.

In September 1989, I was on state aid and was told by the OB/GYN that delivered my daughter that because I was on state aid and women were taking oral birth control or using any other that I had to have a surgical birth control procedure and he performed a bilateral tubal occlusion when he did a c-section at the birth of my daughter which was only my 2nd child. I was naive to believe him not expecting to be lied to and now have to pay to get a reversal done. I did then and still do live in Texas.

I had a bilateral tubal ligation performed in May of 2001 when I was 20 years old. The pathology report shows a segment of fallopian tube measuring 1.7×0.5×0.4cm was removed from the left, and 1.5×0.6×0.4cm was removed from the right. The report states the remaining stumps were ligated with black silk and electrocauterized. I am now 31 years old and in a happy relationship, would I be a candidate for reversal surgery?

Tubal reversal success depends on age. At the age of 31 and with your type of tubal ligation approximately 70% of patients get pregnant after tubal reversal surgery.
Your medical history is more complicated. Tubal reversal surgery should be safe but there is always another chance of having another deep vein thrombosis with any future pregnancy. You would have to talk to your doctor about this but likely you would need to be anti-coagulated during any future pregnancies.

I had the Bilateral Tubal Ligation, Modified Pomeroy. I have my medical records for last ceserean section, and that was the one I had tubes done. I have had two prior c-sections. With last pregnancy I had a deep venous thrombosis, and I really want another child. It has been almost nine years since my last child, and I am 31 years old. I have had no medical problems other than the deep venous thrombosis when pregnant with third child. Is it safe for me to try for reversal just for one more baby? Would my reversal be likely to work, what are the statistics?

I had a Post Partum Tubal Sterilization by Pomeroy Technique done in 1998. I am now 35 years old with 3 children all by natural birth. I had a surgery done in 2010 to remove my right ovary due to corpus luteum cysts and slight endometriosis but the tube on the right was left. I now have the left ovary and left tube and it stated it was unremarkable after the surgery. My question is I want to get my left tube reversed because of very Sever PTLS and maybe future children, would this be possible for successful future pregancy's? The pathology reports from my sterilization by pomeroy technique the segment removed from the right was 2.5 cm and segment from the left was 2.0 so what are the chances of reversal and pregnancy with only one good left tube and one good left ovary, and I have a reg. cycle and I ovulate every month from same side.

Rhonda H. – Many doctors cauterize the endosalpinx (inner tubal lining) at the ends where they have tied and cut tubes. Tubal reversal is usualy possible even when the tubes have been tied, cut and cauterized.

I am 41 years old with regular,heavy(due to fibroids)periods. I will be getting married this year and my fiance has no children. I would really like to have another baby. The modified Pomeroy was performed in 2001, on the same day that I gave birth via Cesarean due to frank breech presentation. My operative report indicates my left fallopian tube was markedly attenuated. I am not sure what that means, but I have never had a problem conceiving(not ever trying) prior to the procedure. My op report also indicates the presence of endosalpinx bilaterally, which were cauterized. Would it still be possible to conceive after reversal? and even with the cauterization?

Your chances of pregnancy after reversal of tubal rings would be excellent. On average, close to 80% of patient with tubal ring reversal will become pregnant. Each cycle of IVF (in-vitro) costs $9,000-$12,000 for an average success of 35% for each cycle. At your age and with tubal rings tubal reversal offers you the best chance to become pregnant.

I just wrote I forgot to say I am now 26 yrs old and have 3 children I was able to get pregnant very easy in the past and after my 3rd child I was kind forced to have the tubal rings placed over my tubes…. I would like to know if I could ever get pregnant again and what would be the easiest way to get pregnant…. again I never had them cut,burned,or tied just a ring over the tubes that kills the tissue around the tubes…

I had a tubal ring placed over my tubes in 2007 I didn’t have them cut or burn just a ring placed over my tubes… what are the chances I can get pregnant plus the doctor that did them said I could have it taking off or do a in-vitro which one would be a better chance for me to get pregnant?

I had a modified Pomeroy tubal ligation July 2002 when I was 25 years old. Three margins were cauterized. Right tube segment was 1.5 x 0.4 cm and left tube segment was 1.4 x 0.5 cm. I am 32 years old. Is reversal an option and if so what is the pregnancy success rate?

You would not be just a good candidate but rather an EXCELLENT candidate for tubal reversal surgery because of your age and small segments of tube removed. Pregnancy success for you would be 60-80% range and you would have the ability to become pregnant more than once.

I am 29 yrs old and when I was 22 I had the Classic Pomeroy type tubal done with two ties of plain suture. Third tie of silk was placed through the avascular knuckle of tube and excised. Hemostasis assured. Done same for both sides. Clinical Data: Desired sterility. Pathology Report: Description: Left tube consists of 9 x 5 mm same on right. (Bilateral Segments of Fallopian Tubes) Would I be a good candidate??? I would love to have more kids.

The concept that the tubes can become untied after 7 years is not correct. Once they have been tied, they will stay tied unless surgical repair is performed.
There can be a failure of any method of tubal ligation, including the Pomeroy method, but the causes of failure do not have to do with the tubes becoming untied by themselves.

Can the tubes come untied when having a Pomeroy type tubal ligation? I read in this article – it said they can, and I was told they can after 7 years. I’m hoping they can because I never wanted them done. I wish there was a way that I could get them untied with out surgery, but i know there isn’t.

I am a 39 yr old women, who had a Modified Pomeroy Tubal Ligation immediately after I had my daughter almost 16 years ago. I have a very regular cycle. I only have 1 ovary and fallopion tube (due a later surgery). I have done an IVF cycle last year that did not work. I was told that my FSH levels were good.
