A Patient at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center
As my training as a Tubal Reversal Specialist continues, I would like to share the story of one of our recent patients.
This patient lives in Pennsylvania. She came to Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center for a ligation reversal and her story is similar to many of the women who come here to have their tubes untied.
She is 32 and had two older teenage children. She had her tubes tied after her second child. Unfortunately, her husband died after her tubal ligation, but she eventually found a new partner who did not have any children. She and her partner eventually decided they wanted a child together. They had researched the possibility of having another child and made an appointment with an infertility specialist in Pennsylvania. She considered in-vitro fertilization (IVF); however, she and her infertility specialist decided the better option for her would be tubal ligation reversal. Her infertility specialist recommended Dr. Berger as the tubal reversal expert who could give her the best tubal reversal procedure so she and her partner could pursue their desire of having more children.
When the patient came to Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center for her pre-operative visit, her partner was unable to travel with her for the reversal surgery; however, she did bring a close friend. We reviewed her medical history. Her tubal ligation surgery was performed many years ago and there were no operative or pathology reports available. She was able to get some information from her ob/gyn doctor who told her she had the ’standard type of tubal ligation’. She told us about her history and her dreams of having more children.
I was happy that she had excellent operative results and a successful bilateral ligation reversal. She stayed overnight at the local Sheraton Hotel where she was seen in the morning by one of the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Nurses. Following the postoperative check-up, she returned to her home in Pennsylvania to pursue her quest for adding more children to her family. We are eager to hear from her as soon as she has a positive pregnancy test!

Most of the couples who come to Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center learn about us on the internet and from reading our detailed website about tubal ligation reversal. An increasing number of patients come on referral from their doctor, as in this case, and increasing numbers are also coming here because of post tubal ligation symptoms.

Great story. I always enjoy hearing the stories of what brings patients to Chapel Hill Tubal Reveresal Center. I think that each one has it own uniqueness and it is great to be a part of it. Just about every patient that I meet during consult always comments on how nice it was to be able to read all of the information on the website. They say that it truly sets the tone for the whole experience.

Dr. Monteith’s example of a patient’s story emphasizes that despite the fact that this patient did not have her tubal ligation operative or pathology report available, tubal reversal surgery here at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center is still possible. Dr. Berger is able to perform a successful tubal reversal in 98% of his patients. We are fortunate to have Dr. Monteith here to learn from Dr. Berger’s important life-changing surgery technique.

Thank you for the post Dr. Monteith. It’s very interesting to hear how patients decide to come to Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center for their reversal surgery and for what reason they want the reversal.

This women was VERY fortunate to have her physician recommend tubal reversal surgery. Many infertility clinics only suggest IVF. Tubal reversal gives women the most options regarding giving birth. Thankfully tubal reversal surgery is gaining recognition for its success.

The blessings of this job are multifaceted. Getting to know each patient in our small private setting is one of them.
We love to hear about the journey that brought them here, and then we folllow their progress once they go home. It is like having a tubal reversal family!

Tubal ligation reversal definitely has a higher success rate that IVF does, and Dr. Berger has more experience in untying tubes than anyone else. It does seem like more and more patients are coming in with referrals from their doctors.

When a patient comes to Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center who has been referred by another doctor perhaps in another state, it is a true vote of confidence that Dr. Berger and Dr. Monteith are the best in the field.

It’s good to know that this patient was given another option other than IVF. It saddens me to hear when women are pushed towards IVF and/or have had unsuccessful attempts and only then find that tubal reversal was their best option.

This story is both sad and happy. It’s very unfortunate when people lose their life partner. I can’t imagine. However, as time goes on and patients are ready to start a new chapter in their life, it is great that tubal reversal surgery is an option for people who want more children.
