SAMANTHA – Endometrial ablation increases the risks of miscarriage, premature delivery, ectopic pregnancy, and possible fetal abnormalities if pregnancy occurs. It also diminishes the chances of becoming pregnant. These risks occur if the endometrium has become scarred or damaged permanently. In some cases, however, the endometrium grows back and is normal, in which case the risks of complications associated with pregnancy are probably not increased. Having very light period suggests that your endometrium has not completely grown back. You could have your doctor perform a vaginal ultrasound exam to look at the endometrial development in the latter half of your menstrual cycle and/or have a diagnostic hysteroscopy to see if there are adhesions or areas within the uterus where the endometrium has not regenerated. If these tests are normal, then your risks would not likely be higher than for someone who has not had an endometrial ablation.

I had an endometrial ablation 4 years ago. My periods are very light and brown now but I do still have one. I talked to my OB about getting pregnant and she said its ok after 4 years b/c the endometrium grows back. I see you have told others its OK. Are there a lot of risks involved? I got pregnant with my first 2 the first month I tried and had no complications. Does the ablation make my risks much higher?

Lea Many woman will ask this question. Although it is possible to naturally become pregnant after a tubal ligation without any type of procedure, many of this pregnancies will be ectopic (tubal pregnancies). The best way to become pregnant after you have tubes tied is to have a tubal reversal.

MARIA - A sonogram will not be able to tell how your tubes were tied. You may be able to get a copy of your operative report from the doctor who performed your tubal ligation, but if not, you can still have the tubal reversal procedure. If you have had a tubal ligation and want to become pregnant then you will either have to have a tubal reversal or have IVF. The chance of natural pregnancy after your tubes are tied (without a tubal reversal) is 1-15 per 1000 women depending on the type of tubal ligation you had.

It is very possible to have a tubal reversal, become pregnant, and carry a pregnancy to term without complications. When you have multiple C-sections each pregnancy would be high-risk; however, most women who have what you have will not have any problems.

Your history and the nature of your question suggests uncertainty. I would not have a tubal ligation if you are even considering having more children in the future. Your best option would be to consider an intrauterine device (IUD).

You can have an ablation and become pregnant. We never know for sure who will or will not become pregnant- but as long as you are having periods pregnancy is always possible. With increasing age the chance of successful pregnancy does decrease.

Women who do this are destroying what God has given them. I have read studies have showing women regret tying their tubes and so they undergo another surgery to untie them. I think it is wrong to destroy something precious, so before you think about getting your tubes tied... think long and hard and talk to others before attempting this surgery. Remember performing ligation can prevent yourself from having a future child. If you truly desire a tubal ligation then go ahead, but try not to regret it.

The majority of pregnancies after a tubal ligation will be ectopic (outside the uterus). Sometimes these ectopic pregnancies can mimic a miscarriage. Occasionally the pregnancies will find their way into the uterus.

If you want to have a baby I would not count on a tubal ligation failure to allow you to have a baby. If you do not want to have a baby or an ectopic pregnancy then you should talk to your doctor about your options.

If you have had both a uterine ablation and a tubal ligation then you can have a reversal and become pregnant.
If you are having regular periods after the ablation then your uterine lining has regrown and can support a pregnancy. If you are not having periods then pregnancy may not be possible after an ablation. Any pregnancy after uterine ablation would be at higher risk for miscarriage or preterm delivery because of your previous ablation, but most pregnancies will do very well.
Your situation sounds more complicated from the questions you ask so you should call the office for a free nurse consultation (919) 968-4656. We can also review your previous operative notes free of charge.

If you have had a uterine ablation and have your tubes tied can you still get your tubes reversed? If my uterus is ablated and my tubes possibly might be adhered to my uterus can I still get a tubal reversal or have major surgery to get my tubes reconnected? Is there a way to reconstruct my tubes or be reconnected like performing Fimbrectomy reversal?

Dr. Berger, I am a mother of 3 boys. I had c-sections with all of them but healed quickly and completely. With the last one I had my tubes tied. Well, actually one was tied, I don’t know how, and one had a cyst in it so the doctor said she took it out. I don’t know how much of the tube is left. Since my TL 3 years ago I have been suffering from SEVERE Symptoms of Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome. It is so bad some days that I cannot even get out of bed. The doctors can find nothing, and until I found your website I did not know what was going on. Of about 45 symptoms that I found I am suffering from 38 of them in varying degrees. Even if I don’t have much tube is it possible to reverse it and help me? We also want another baby. I am only 29 and my husband is 33 will this maybe help our chances of getting pregnant? The simple answer is – what you describe is not normal. The more complex answer is why?

You should talk to your doctor and be evaluated.

If you want to have another baby you can consider a tubal ligation reversal procedure but it may or may not help with the symptoms you describe.

Hi. I have my tubal for 15 years already and I want to have another baby but I’m not sure if they are tied.After the surgery my doctor told me she only tied my tubes.

I checked my records theyonly say tubal ligation but the doctor didn’t refer to cutting burning or whatever was done on january 15 1994.

Sometimes I don’t have my periods and when I do they are very painful and I’m passing really big blood clots. Is this normal?

Many patients will tell us this only to come here and have a successful reversal and a new pregnancy. Many times patients and doctors refer to the tubes being tied, clipped, cut, and burned. The vast majority of the times this is not what was actually done. Many times this is way to convey to a patient they had a sterilization procedure and they do not have to worry about becoming pregnant.

You should probably be seen by your doctor and have an ultrasound to evaluate for uterine fibroids and blood test to see if you are ovulating regularly. If you want to become pregnant again, then you should also consider a tubal ligation reversal.

I had my tubes clamped and every since then I have been having nothing but problems. I very rarely have a period now and then when I do its a bad one I pass blood clots the size of saucers and I cramp like I am in labor- and that is not even the half of it. When my husband and I decide to do anything it hurts so what do you suggest that I do?Please help.

My name is Carrie and I have 4 children. The last one will be 5 in June. In August 2004 I decided not to have anymore children and my doctor gave me the whole nine yard speech about having my tubes tied and burnt. I was almost positive that I did not want children anymore. So I had the procedure done. Now I am with my partner of 4 years and we want one more addition to our loving family. Help please.

Hi, Fannie. Fortunately, the length of time since the tubal ligation does not affect the outcome of the procedure. The doctors here are able to repair the tubes in 98% of cases. Age does play a role, but even our patients age 40 – 42 have pregnancy rates close to 50%.

Although Medicaid does not provide coverage for a tubal reversal, we do have several fee options.

1) Our standard fee is $6,900. With this fee, you can schedule your appointment and hold a date with a $250 down payment. But the balance is due three weeks prior to the surgery date.

2) Our discounted fee is $5,900 and is due at the time of scheduling your surgery. In other words, if you called today to schedule, the full $5,900 fee would be sent by tomorrow to get the discount.

3) Surgery can be scheduled with Dr. Monteith for a fee of $6,400. With this fee, you can schedule your appointment and hold a date with a $250 down payment. But the balance is due three weeks prior to the surgery date. The discounted fee is $5,400 and is due at the time of scheduling your surgery.

Your payment can be made by cashier’s check, money order, wire transfer, VISA, MasterCard or DISCOVER. Both fees are all-inclusive and cover the doctor’s professional fee, the anesthesiologist’s fee, supplies, operating room charges and facility fees, initial consultation with your surgeon and follow-up by phone and e-mail.

We also offer a Pre-Payment Account Plan or financing through MedChoice Financial. With the pre-payment option, patients can pre-pay the surgical fee without interest prior to the surgery date. To utilize this option, a non-refundable $250 fee is mailed to us at: Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, 109 Conner Drive, Suite 2200, Chapel Hill, North Carolina 27514. At that point, an account is opened in your name and payments of any amount are made as you are able- for as long as you wish. For the standard fee of $6900, you do not have to wait until the balance is paid to schedule surgery – you can schedule at any time with a $250 down payment. The balance is due at least three weeks prior to the surgery date. You may receive either of our discounted fees while using the pre-payment plan, but the balance must be paid in full prior to scheduling surgery.

I had my tubes tied 8 1/2 years ago right after the birth of my second child. It was very easy for me to become pregnant both times. At the time this was the reason I decided to get them tied. However, since then my husband I have both regretted this decision. Mostly I feel a burden that I made a mistake according to the Bible, which says children are a gift from God. I wish I could have my tubal ligation reversed, but am concerned about the cost. Even if I never became pregnant again, though, I think I would feel better just simply knowing it was reversed. Even though I know the Lord could impregnate me if He really wanted me to have another child even if my tubes are tied, I think I would feel better knowing that I was no longer under the burden of feeling like a stunbling block for His will. My family would find this decision to reverse to be very radical and maybe even unwise. Do you think it is worth the money to have it reversed just for the peace of mind? Also I am about to turn 38 in Dec. I know that having children after 35 is a risk. I would not want to cause a baby having to be born into the world with Down Syndrome or some other condition just to appease my conscience. Practically I don’t even know if I could handle having another child, but again I would have to live by faith. I have not even discussed this with my present OB/GYN. In addition I have PCOS. I would like to hear what you would have to say about the above. THanks. Amy M.

I had a 20 pound tumor and it had destroyed my left ovary and tube when i was 14 and i had 3 children after they removed it and then had my right tube tied and clipped 18 years ago is there any chance of that tube coming untied and me getting pregnant now? Iveth: At age 26 and with having had your tubes cut, you have the best chance of having more babies of anyone. Look at the pregnancy rates after tubal ligation reversal on the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center web site. You will see that your chances are over 80% that you will become pregnant within a year of having your tubes untied. My partner and I have been planning to have a baby. We have been engaged for 2 years and I have children of my own but he doesn’t and he wants one and i want to do it now that I am only 26 yrs old and he is 23. We are both young and healthy.
