I can’t believe all I am reading! I got my TL a couple of months ago & reading all the symptoms, I just can’t believe I have some or maybe I should say most! I have painful menstrual cycles, which I didn’t have since I was a teen & now I am 33 years old. My hair is falling out. The memory is getting worst everyday more. There is no sex drive. It’s horrible! I was never told this prior to getting my TL. Don’t get me wrong I have 5 boys & don’t want any more kids. But the symptoms are horrible!! I’ve gained weight! If I were told they were side effects to this procedure I would’ve not have done it!! Oh & longer menstrual cycles also! It used to only be like 3 days & light, but now 5, heavy & painful!!

Wow I just got my tubes done Fri and the pain is unreal and hearing what all you
Say I wish I would of looked in to it alittle more I can say this sares
The stuffing out of me. I am 30 and my husband and I have three kids
And we didnt want anymore so I thought this was a good thing the headach
Started yesterday and the back pain is unreal I dont know what to do
Wish I would of thought about it more not looking forward to down the road

Wow- I had my tubes tied, cut, burned right after my second C-section in 2007. I was 30. It was a huge mistake, as now I want another child and insurance denies you if you had a tubal. yet they covered that tubal- I wish I would have known. My doctor suggested it to me and said there were NO side effects.. now I have migranes, depression, weight gain, can’t sleep and I have to take medicines to get my period every 3 months. Why does insurance punish us for a mistake?

I had my tubal done one month after my third child was born, since then (3 months ago)I have had reoccurring pains on both sides of my abdomen….I have never had this pain before my ligation, I have also noticed a much heavier flow in my cycle going through about one pad an hour, which is scary knowing that is NOT normal. I noticed alot of the same symptoms as most being tired and forgetful, moody, depressed before the tubal and was diagnosed with post partum depression and now am on a depression regimen…..but now 2 months on that am beginning to get the same symptoms and gaining weight even on the anit-depressants! I was never told about this ” urban legend” by my DR. wish he would have I may have chosen a different route, I do like knowing the chances of me getting pregnant or almost impossible but not for the price of my quality of life….. I still need to be a good mother which can be hard to do when debilitating abd. pain keeps me from holding my children in my arms. I REALLY hope more DR.’s recognize this as REAL….because its real to me!

I just recently got my tubes clipped. After I got it done I started to lose my appetite, now im having migraines so severe that it makes me vomit. Ive always been healthy and had no issues..then I get this procedure done and I have been sick since ive got it done. My doctor tells me that my symptoms have nothing to do with the procedure and there is no need to have concern but I havent had any of these problems until after my procedure. I have been feeling weak and shaky. I feel hot and sweaty but cold at the same time. Im really concerned.

I’m not alone with the problems when i got my tubal done in 2003 at the age 21. I reget it to the fully about. The doctor that tied them did not tell me about the symptoms you will have. My kids father was telling me that i forgets things a lot. I didn’t think nothing of it until i start reading everyone message on here. I only have two kids. I was listening to what people say about getting your tubal tied. I made a very big mistake in my life. It messing with my sex drive and i’m about to get marry next year. will it mess with my marriage.

I can not believe how many others feel the way I do. I am 31 and had a tubal done in 2005 after my third daughter. All of which were healthy pregnancy’s to term and very healthy children. I have never had any health problems or surgery’s aside from the c-section. I was 25 so my husband and I decided we were done having children. Never being good about taking pills ect. We decided with our last daughter we would have a c-section performed and the tubal done right on the spot. I never really put two and two together that how I was feeling could be a result of the tubal. I have never had cramps. My memory was always sharp as a fiddle. Had headaches once in a blue moon. My cycle before maybe lasted 3-4 days. I had more patience then I knew what to do with. In the last 6 years I have had several cysts. My doctor put me on a medication for migraines because I would get them so bad they would have me in bed for the entire day. I always feel tired but can’t seem to sleep. I have constant bloating and swelling. My cycle lasts over a week now with heavy bleeding and clots. After the first 3 days I stop bleeding for a day and start right back up again. I have horrible cramps that start up within 12 hours of the start of my cycle. These cramps have prevented me from going to work or even performing daily activities. I have a constant tummy pain that never goes away near my ovaries. Almost feels like pressure. Mood swings constantly and my memory almost feel fuzzy. Kind of like my head is in clouds. I have body aches through out my body all most on a all day basis. These mood swings had caused a lot of problems in my marriage. We were lucky to have a strong relationship and made it through it. I have some what been able to recognize when I’m having a “moment” and need to take a step back and realize I’m truly not that upset. I have not been able to lose weight if my life depended on it. When I brought this to my Dr’s attention one year after my tubal he put my on pain medication and something for the migraines. Even though all my tests were coming back to me being healthy as a fiddle. He had no explanation other than. After each child your body changes. You are probably now having the cramps as one of your bodies changes. The headaches could be due to you changing certain habits like your soda intake. Your body aches can be from the swelling maybe you need to try and cut down the salt in your diet. I just figured hes the doctor he knows what hes saying. It had gotten to the point where I was taking the medication the moment I opened my eyes until I closed them at night on a daily basis. I have over all discontinued taking both medications over the last year and just sucking up and dealing with the pain. Problem is I find myself now taking more Tylenol and Motrin then I did of the pain and migraine medication. I really think after reading all of these posts I need to look into having my tubal reversed. My insurance paid for my tubal but from what I have read will not pay for the reversal. I’m not sure on what to do any suggestions?

I had a tubal ligation done six years ago after having my second child. My stomach stays bloated all the time, I look like I am about 6 months pregnant. I have pain in my sides, especially my left side. My back hurts a lot and I have gained quite a bit of weight. I really regret having my tubes tied and I really dont know if my symptoms are caused by the tubal ligation or not but I am really tired of the discomfort

Worst thing I have ever done.The pain is horrible during my monthly.I have headaches,hot flashes I forget things I am moody ALL the time and I never want to have sex because it hurts.When I spoke to my DR.about a tubal all he told me was I would bleed heavy for the first year,well its been 4 years and its getting worse.I hate things that I used to love,I get angry at my kids for nothing…I have Crohns and was told to get them tied because it was to dangerous for me to chance maybe getting pregnant again.So I got them done problems started instantaniously.I cant have the reversal done it was dangerous to have them tied in the firt place because of a crohns surgery I had years ago.When I had my tubal done the Doctor had to cut me about 8 inches and cut away scar tissue and move my intestines out of the way.Is there anything else that could relieve any if not all of these problems???

I am so angry they dont tell people that this happens before you get it done, I have heavy bleeding and really bad pain coming from my ovaries every two weeks some days i cant even walk I get headaches all the time I feel depressed all the time and i never feel like having sex my husband and i want to get it reversed but just dont have the money we have three kids and a mortgage what are we supposed to do there are thousands of women out there going though this and none is helping us it makes you sick. All the doctors have to say is its all in your head i bet if they got symptoms like this there would be help right away.

Tina – Many women who come here with similar post tubal symptoms have tried a variety of treatments including birth control pills, hormones, and endometrial ablation. If none of these work, tubal reversal seems to resolve the symptoms.

Had my TL in December of 2010 after I had my son in September–since then my periods have been extremely heavy for the first 2-3 days and extreme cramps. I also get headaches 2 days before and am extremely emotional. My sex drive is non existant and I have been breaking out more than I did when I was a teenager. I am 35 and have two children and have no desire to have anymore. Was on birth control before and when I wasn’t on birth control my periods were sparatic and light. I had depression and anxiety prior to the TL so I have been managing that. I haven’t spoken to my OBGYN about this but is there anything else beside a reversal that works??

Patients report Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome with other methods of tubal ligation do have similar complaints..so it is not just patients with clips or rings. To our knowledge clips would not cause arthritis or worsening of symptoms. Occasionally there can be other reasons for pain like endometriosis or scar tissue after a tubal ligation. Many patients will report relief after reversal.

I have a couple questions after reading alot of the posts…..it seems everyone is complaining due to the tubal clips, not other methods of tubal ligation (like plain cauterizing)….is it the clips that are primarily causing this? or any tubal can cause these problems? Also, if I don’t want more babies, would simply taking clips out without reconstruction of tubes be helpful?

I had clips put in during c-section of my third child 5 years ago. Did not know it would be the clips and wish I had read this before and chosen another birth control method thereafter. However, I do not have any of the symptoms women are reporting here so I guess I got lucky there. I do not want to have more children either. A year after having given birth and having clips, my psoriasis I’d had for many years turned into psoriatic arthritis and I have since wondered if putting the clips in and my body’s possible reactions to this might have triggered that and if removing the clips would reverse this. Rhuem docs say no way to know what trigger could have been or if taking them out would stop something that already started anyway, but it has always been a thought I have wondered about.

i got the clamps on my tubes 4 years ago but it still feels like i can feel it. the pain i get where they are is unreal doubled over mood and memory swings a lot of the above that people have said. Im 39 now but it still dosent feel rite and after all these years surely u should be pulled in to make sure everything is okay. is it rite i can put me fingers on the exact place it hurts. maybe its just me but it dont feel rite.

I have had pain, mood swings, NO sex drive, irregular painful heavy periods and stomach problems ever since I had my tubes tied. It’s been almost 4 years. I wouldnt want to have them reversed since I already have 4 children. I’m just wondering if there is any other relief for what I’m going through. My OBGYN says it has nothing to do with the TL and kinda laughed at the idea. Now that I’m reading this I know I’m not alone. Thank you.

I had a tubal ligation in 2000 after my 2nd son was born after having my 2nd c-section. I was 23 yrs. old, married at 20 due to my 1st pregnancy. No one discussed any side effects with me or tried to postpone the procedure until my hormones and mental state were rational. Sine then, I am now 33 yrs.old, having problems with UTI's (this year), severe back pain, cramping, irregular periods, pain during intercourse. My hormones are threw the roof. Depression, anxiety, irregular bowel movements, bloating, which none of these symptoms I experienced prior. My depression, pain lead me to relying on pain killers, the pain was so bad normal doses didn't work, which led me to rely on them daily to start my day and complete my day. I have been off most pain meds for 3 yrs. This past year I have experienced severe symptoms first time having UTI's, cysts on both ovaries and kidneys, several tests and hospital visits. My thought has been tubal reversal to relieve the pain. I can't live like this anymore. I'm not the fully productive mom that I use to be. I understand age could be a factor, body changes etc. but I can't take it for 10+ more years like this if menopause cures this. I've been told all the pain etc. is due to stress and weight gain and loss. I'm sick of hearing the same thing by my physician. In need of help. I wish I never had the procedure done. I'm ready for a reversal to cure these symptoms whether health ins. covers or not. Desperate for relief.

On February 11 2010 I was sterilized. From the moment I woke up to now (6.5 months later), I have been in excruciating pain. I was prepared to be in pain for the first few months, but now it has completely consumed my life. I am so depressed, unable to work and the pain is so intense that I have been in my kitchen with a knife ready to cut the clamps out of my body.

I am 30 years old, never wanted to have kids and was looking forward to this surgery. I am allergic to the pill and other forms of contraception, so this felt like my only option so I wouldn’t have to worry about getting pregnant on a monthly basis.

Since the surgery, I have gained 25 pounds, look 7 months pregnant from bloating all of the time, have insomnia, nausea, vomiting, vaginal bleeding and excessive discharge,fever, chills, headaches, lethargy and on and on. I have to pee every 10 minutes many days as there is so much pressure on my bladder, my bowl movements are strained because pushing causes me to almost pass out from pain. I no longer have a sex life because it hurts so badly to have any intercourse and arousal.

Had I known that these were side effects to this surgery, I would have never gone through with it. Not one doctor I had spoken with prior to the surgery informed me about the possibility of these side effects. I am utterly disappointed with my health care providers.

I had my tubes tied 3yrs ago. I had a wonderful OB/GYN at st. vincents in birmingham. But I didn’t expect my body to react to the TL like this right now I am in pain on top of being late and a sever UTI my left side hurts it not a crampy hurt it’s a sharp pain that goes on. my lower tummy hurts when me and my husband have sex I keep getting cyst on my overies the last cyst I had was 2.7cm on left overy and a small one on the right I tk I have another cyst. I get very nauseous an feel like throwing up. I am 28yr old mom and wife and student for nursing and the thing is I can’t take this anymore the pain i can’t handle period fine but pain no one should have to live with pain. I am thinking about calling Dr berger hope he take BC/BS. my hubby is a anniston army depot worker so i can’t tell him to come home all the time so dr bergier I want your help to reversal I had the gold brass rings put on my tubes and dr yarbrough told me i have enough length to repair.

I am not sure if my tubes were tied or not but the reason I think they were is because I had an D and C procedure done about 4 years ago. I had to have an abortion done due to medical reasons and the things that my then boyfriend was doing. Now he is deceased and I have met this wonderful man. We are about to be married and he has no kids at all. I am 37 yrs old and I want to give him his first child but my reasons for thinking that I had my tubes tied is because my period only stays on for 2 to 3 days. I have a slight pain on the left side of my stomach but not severe pain. I am as dry as a desert - it may just be me but in the back of my mind my doctor has tied tubes without my consent. I am very glad to see that I am not alone in this. This is absolutely ridiculous that doctors are performing this procedure and actually believe and tell us that there are no side effects. I specifically asked my doctor if anything changes or if there are side effects and he said,
“No!” Everything will stay the same. Yeah right. What a joke. I guess men will NEVER know what we go through. I have 3 beautiful children. I had one late miscarry. I had 2 c-sections. I had very high risk pregnancies with full bed rest. So that’s why the doctors recommended having my tubes tied. They said I couldn’t have anymore children either I would die or my baby. They said my husband didn’t need to have a vasectomy because it would be so easy since they were already in there doing a c-section. I wish so badly I never had it done. It’s not in our heads!!! This is a real problem. I can’t deal with these migraines every 2 weeks and they last for days so it seems like I’m always walking around with a headache! The mood swings are horribe. I have anxiety and depression. I’m very irritable and used to be the most patient person but I have a tough time handling stress now. I’m tired and the bleeding is so heavy with clots. I just can’t believe that doctors are doing this and saying there’s absolutely no side effects—Everything stays the same!!! What a joke. I wish I had help. I don’t know what to do. Do tubal reversals really make a difference? Will all these rotten side effects go away?

I had my tubes tied in dec of 09. My first period was unbelievable. I was in so much pain I couldn’t function, literally. 2 weeks latter my period began again with the same amount of pain. A week after that I had another three day period. I went in to the er and the doc put me on the pill to help get my periods back to normal. I am still having periods every other week and the pain starts about twelve hours before I begin and doesn’t go away for three to four days. I also have about half a day of bleeding in between that is accompanied by sever cramps. I am tired all the time. The doctors say well you have three kids and a baby of course your going to be tired. I keep telling them this isn’t normal. Something is wrong. I need help. I can’t live this way. Please fix me. And the reply is always give it time. Your body is still healing. Periods can be painfull and unusual after having a baby. I know to an extent they are right, but it’s been three months since i had my child and I have never had these problems after any of my other children. I haven’t had any issues with weight, then again the couple extra pounds I have are for the best in my case. As for headaches, I had maybe one a year untill after the tubal. Now I have one just about everyday. My home is starting to look like a cave because it seems like the brightness makes them worse. I can’t figure out rather I should just wait and see if it does get better or if I should be more agressive about finding out what the problem is and how to fix it. I am not sure if the tubal is the cause, and even if it is I can’t afford to get it reversed. I really don’t want to reverse it. I just want the pain to go away. I can even deal with the weird periods. Just not this pain. Can anyone give me ideas on how to cope?

I just had my the clips on my tubes Feb 1st. when the doc was doing the procedure she was suppose to put the coils in. Well she perferated my uterus and thought she tore my small intestine. she had to call in 3 more surgeons to help because i was on my death bed. Needless to say she put the clips on without my permission and this is not what i wanted. I assume that it was just not meant to be if she couldnt do the coils. i feel it was a sign that i just wasnt ready. well the night in the hospital they gave me pain medicine that i had a allergic reaction to and the doc said it was fine just keep giving the pain meds to me with benadryl. Luckily my throat didnt close or anything really serious. The docs now a days are just not smart. Now im home and have been in and out of doc for bleeding and back pain. Ive had CT scan and ultrasound and it shows nothing. They cant seem to figure out where the bleeding is coming from.I was told from doc maybe it was a small anurism in a blood vessell that erupted. Is that possible? I am now having leg pain. I just cant understand why the docs dont tell u all the effects this will have on us. If i knew all this i would never jepordize putting my family through this. I am scared and dont want to have all the modd symptoms im hearing about. i would never want to hurt my family and i dont know what to do. I cant reverse it because i am seriously afraid of the doctors. I just dont think they really care like years ago. This was something that i really wanted so i didnt have to worry about taking the pill.

I must admit, had I been told the “Risk Factors” that go along with the whole TL, I would have had an IUD put in… At least it can be removed and insurance will pay for it and there is little to no problems that go along with it… I had my TL 1/7/04 after the C-Section birth of my twin daughters… After the TL, my periods were very HORRIBLE, it was as if I was having a miscarriage every month… After a year of hemorrhaging, they began and continue to last about 2 days, which is great, but not normal either; as I will have little to no bleeding and then a sudden gush of blood, as if I am again miscarrying… A little over a year ago, I had to have 2 small cysts removed from my left ovary, which I truly believe is from the TL Clips… When I ovulate on either side I am in so much pain that I can hardly lift my legs to walk and it is more so when I ovulate on my left side… I am sick and tired of hurting and feeling sick and bleeding all over the place… I wish there was a way of posting all the BAD things from a TL for all women who are considering it BEFORE they have it performed…
My life has changed since my TL and I am engaged to a man who has brought such happiness to my life… We want to start a family together and after having researched this site for about 3 years now, we are ready to begin a new chapter of life together… I am in the beginning stages of scheduling my TR surgery and can hardly wait…I hope to get it scheduled for February, so wish me luck…

I agree with every thing on this page. I had my tubal done a year ago and the pain I have is crazy. I don’t feel like myself anymore. I’ve gained weight, sex is painful and the drive for it comes and goes. I have terrible pain in my right side and I always feel sick to my stomach. My opinion to every women in the world is to take another route cause its not worth the time or pain.

Well-I was very seriously considering a TL prior to finding this blog. There is no way I’m risking these kinds of side effects. The reason I’m looking for another option is that I want off the hormones in my birth control pills. Sounds like these side effects are going to be much worse. I guess I’ll just have to lovingly encourage my husband to go with the vasectomy.

I had a tubal ligation when I was 21 years old after having my 3rd child…after 15 hours of hard labor the doctors had to do an emergency c-section…and during that time I had been given lots of meds for pains…all I remember is a nurse coming to my bedside with a paper authorizing me to have a tubal ligation due to the fact that I was unmarried and so young with three children…I asked her would I be able to get them untied and she said yes so I signed and the doctors did my tubal during the c-section….I am now 30 years old and for the last 8 1/2 years I have had so many medical issues ….depression, anxiety, extremely heavy painful menstrual cycles(in which I have to use 2 overnight pads in the daytime and a super tampon) I also have to take 800mg ibuprofen which knocks me out cold….and most times I bleed through my pads tampons and clothes a few times a day…I get extreme pain in my legs and they hurt so bad until they feel numb….I get severe hot flashes….and I have been from doctor to doctor all they give me are medications and no cure….and in order to reverse this tubal ligation I was told I would have to pay nearly 10,000.00 out of my pocket….I am very low income and a single parent and Medicaid paid for the tubal ligation so why wont they pay for the reversal? I am starting to believe that this is a conspiracy because I was not educated on these severe side effects….

One more thing due to the fact I had my tubal ligation done at the same time as my c-section I have no idea as to what procedure was done is there a more common procedure that is used and is there a way to find out if they just tied them or burnt, tied, and cut etc. (the whole nine yards)?

Wow it is crazy to read all these posts due to the fact I had my tubes tied in 2003 during my c-section and since then I have had bad pains in my abdomen and unlike the rest of you my pain seems to mainly happen on the left side. I also regret having my tubes tided when I did due to the fact I was only 29 now i am 35 and want more considering I only have 2 boys. So my advice to anyone considering a tubal ligation think long and hard before making such a final decision.

I had my tubes tied 4 years ago (now 38) and after having them tied I asked my current gyn (not the one that performed the tubal) if my lack of ability to lose weight and my lack of sex drive (complete 360 from before I had the tubal) was related to the tubal and as told “no, it is a result of your busy life, 3 kids, etc.” Although I was only 35-36, I figured my lack of sex drive was just something that happens as you get older. Then about 6 months I got pregnant and my doctor recommended getting my tubes removed because it proved I was fertile. The pregnancy terminated itself – probably because of how off my hormones are. That is when I found out that the things that have happened to me since are the same as that which a lot of other women are experiencing…I don’t have less of a libido – I have none and my husband has often accused me of cheating on him because of lack of interest…in addition, I never lost the weight after my 3 when I was able to lose the weight after my first 2; I get severe headaches (I used to only get cramps before my period); my periods are NOT heavy though; I do have increased irritability and find myself snapping at my family; sometimes I have had what I would call hot flashes but have been told I am too young to be going into menopause; I have had 3 polyps in the past 12 months. The list goes on for me and I am now considering getting my tubal reversed but wondering what might happen if I do that – not sure who to trust since doctors don’t seem to tell you the truth. I should have never played with what I was given and wish someone had told me about all of this.

MILLIE – The first thing to do is run a home pregnancy test. Then, you should see the doctor who found your fibroid tumor and discuss the possibility of removing it. If that does not improve your symptoms, you could have a tubal reversal.

I had my tubes tied in August of 2004. I did not want them tied. The doctor asked me during labor did I want them tied. I said yes, not being able to think about anything but pain. I have very painful periods, bad headaches, bad bloating, and a severe amount of pain. I recently went to the doctor that discovered I have a fibroid tumor. I have a boyfriend with one kid. I had a TL in september of 08 after my 3rd c-section.(I am 26) I had tough pregnancies and lost my first baby after 16hrs his life so when #3 came around and my c-section was awful I chose to have it done. I now have gained 12 pounds have hot flashes I actually do not have any periods but the pain I feel is soo bad that I have actually been brought to tears. My memory is horrible and I am moody and depressed. I don’t know what to do because I don’t even know how much anything like this costs to reverse and as much as I would like to have another child it makes me nervous because I do have a chance of birth defects and my uteris was thin. I hate feeling like this though and I really need it to stop!!

I am having surgery with Dr Berger next Tuesday, for this exact reason. My symptoms began immediately after my TL two years ago. Heavy bleeding, cramping, painful ovulation, terrible irratibility/mood swings,memory changes…I KNOW the TL caused these symptoms. We know our bodies and we don’t need a dr to tell us we are right about PTLS existing. I know nothing is guaranteed, however my hopes are that this surgery helps me to feel “whole” again, mentally and physically! Of course, another baby would be fantastic, too Good luck to all.

Well I seem to be one of the youngest on here. It has been almost three and a half years since my tubal. I have two daughters both born by c-sections. We tied my tubes in January of 2006 at the age of 21. My friend actually sent me a text one day talking about this particular health issue and I was like oh… well maybe I have that cause it seems too weird that the symptoms fit. As we speak i am on my lovely “cycle.” the headaches were there all day, and a horrid sharp pain in my right side that I cannot explain. It is not a cramp cause cramps come and go, this is a pain that is there constantly a week before my period until the end. And it is the same sharp pain I complained of the morning after my Tubal. The nurse said “well you just had a c-section” DUH! GENIUS! But then explain this … why 3 years later the pain is still there? The moodiness is there.. i am constantly going through hot flashes and am almost to the point where I might as well go naked! I cannot sleep, and as an article mentioned I began my regular period 4 weeks after my daughter was born/tubal was done.I am so so glad that someone brought up the HORRID BLOOD CLOT! I never EVER had clots like that before I had my kids. They are so nasty and sick, especially when you can feel it sliding out.. i know it is grosse but someone has to be honest for the rest of the shy. And the heaviness of the menstral cycle is unbelieveable… i literally cannot leave my house for 2 day since i can fill a Super Plus in 15 min flat! I thank my husband for working so hard that I can stay home with my girls. But in someone as young as 24, my symptoms are much as real as yours… oh and I was diagnosed with depression 6 weeks after my daughter/tubal was done.

Now at at the age of 24, a couple weeks from 25, I find myself in tears over the fact that I cannot have any more children. Why I tied them in the first place I cannot tell you I had a logical reason, cause I didnt. The doctor was supposed to tell me when he was going to cut the tubes after my daughter was born and neglected to do so, otherwise I would have said no dont do it. I so desperately want more children. I cannot even tell you how bad. I just end up crying to my husband about it. I am an completely against pitosin (sp?) and tubals. They are good for some, but I will never encourage anyone to be part of either! Both have not been good to me.

I had my tubes banded when I had my son 10 years ago. I reviewed my options with my Dr. I was told there were no side effects. Except possibly the bands could come off. Since that time in 1999 I’ve had LOADS of side effects. First it started with a heavier period. OH and more PAINFUL. Sometimes the pain is so unbareable I become sick and vomit. I’ve been in and out of the Dr’s office since then. I’ve had cysts that disappear…pain from my ovary area that doubles me over in tears. I get pelvic examines and nothings there. Ive been told I have Edometriosis, PID, Fibroids, Cysts, to it just my body changing… Yet everytime I get blood work I’m okay. I had to take the pill, even though my tubes were banded to help control the pain!!! Its unreal. My family Dr doesn’t know what to do anymore and specialist look at me like I’m nuts. What made me start researching PTLS was my aunt had her tubes done also and started experiancing the same issues. Funny. So I asked other women and several had the same problems. Now I know that many doctors to no believe PTLS is real but it is to me and to several other woman out there. If I could afford the surgery I would do it NOW. But my son has autism so much of my finances support him. I would give anything to end this pain each month. So I understand many of your stories and feel your pain… literally

On an additional note: I was diganosed with ADHD about two years ago because I complained of memory loss, insomnia, scattered thoughts..

but i suffer from all of these symtoms also!

• Hot flashes
• Irritability
• Mood swings
• Insomnia
• Decreased sex drive
• Anxiety
• Depression
• Memory changes

So, I know I’ve fought with the “I know what I’m feeling and what you’re telling me doesn’t fit” feeling and have fought with DRS alot. Its not easy dealing with an autist son, a teenage daughter and these issues… everyone just thinks your stressed…Some needs to listen

I had my tubal after my 4th child,at 28 years old, I have had severe pain especially after the tubal,a huge bruise on my lower abdomen for weeks that nobody could seem to explain,since I have had the same symptoms of “feeling pregant” some months and my doctor tells me ” it’s all in your head”. Why do they say that is there something they are trying to avoid?Anyone out there considering having a tubal ligation,I hope you read these articles of women that regret having this done. DON’T DO IT. Find something different,less painful that won’t cause you a lifetime of,depression,weight gain,mood swings,and total regret!!!!

My Dr told me I had no choice but to tie my tubes after 4 children and 3 c sections. I had my tubal ligation at age 30 and I regret it so much. I re-married and had them untied at age 38 and I have gotten pregnant several times only to have miscarriages. All the symptoms everyone complains of after tubal ligation are so common my cousins have them also and they are huge clogs, severe pain, leg pains, pelvic pain, headaches, sore breasts, nausea, bloated, dizziness all before and during menstrual cycle. After I had my tubes untied my menstrual cycle has changed just a little. Less days of menses 3 to 4 days, less pain but I think it messed me up I never had these problems at 30 years of age I was very healthy I played sports kept in shape. Now I have leg pains, gained weight of 15lbs, severe menstrual pain. Also frequent miscarriages.

I want to have this surgery I am actually tearing up becasue I had no idea this could be reversed. Having had my tubes tied it has changed my body dramatically. Well after having my third child July 18,2008 We decided that getting my tubes tied would be in my best interest..Since being pregnant with our third child and having to take daily shots & loaded up on meds the entire pregnancy for a blood clotting disorder..Pretty much stated the fact that having anymore children was out of the question..On Nov 4,2008 I had my tubal ligation done..Not knowing the horror it was going to bring..I mean I have had my period a number of times since then It is now coming to my 3rd month after and As I sit here is Horrible pain from these cramps I want the world to know that there are tell tale signs that something is just NOT RIGHT..I cough and it feels as if my ovaries are going to Burst right out of me..I move and it feels like they are pressing up against the walls of my stomach..The pain is unbearable..Yes this was a Stupid mistake..I should have opted for the Mirena instead..My hair is constantly falling out in handfulls,and my breast hurt as if I were pregnant all over again..I am more than moody..it is more like I want to go on a Rampage..My husband and I are not on the same page about anything..I have taken pain pills to Ease the pain But NOTHING has done the trick..I understand that Nothing is going to take them away completely..But for heavens sake please ease them a bit..I want everyone who comes across this site to see that this is Real..It is Not worth the pain you endure each month..It is not worth Not being able to stand up straight..Forget about getting your tubes tied..Go for something Less dramatic..Trust me when I say this is No ride in the park..It hurts like crazy..I do not have the insurance nor money to do a reversal or else I would go right ahead..Thanks for reading !

I had my tubes tied in 1998 after the birth of my second son. I was 21 yrs old then. I like all of you wish I had been told about the symptoms after a tubal. I had nearly all of the same symptoms you all have mentioned here. And they started very early after the surgery. This was the worst mistake of my life and I regret doing this to my body. I find it very difficult and almost impossible to lose weight, and I dont eat much either. I gained a tremendous amount of weight after the TL. The cramps, pain and heavy flow associated with massive clots are things I never had until the TL. I also suffered depression for some time but am better now. I am truly thankful to the Lord that my Husband stuck by me through this horrific time. I also wanted to mention my cycle has always came around the time it is suppose to. But I missed my December cycle and also January cycle. I also have all the symptoms of being pregnant, but the home test were negative. The most odd symptom is the fluttering in my stomach. I do not have insurance either and the clinics here cant see me until February. Has anyone of you all experienced this? Like I said I have never missed a cycle unless I was expecting. I am 31 and I am just going crazy not knowing something. Anyone with advice or same thing please post. Thank you all for your stories.

I had My tubes done Nov.2008. My recovery was fast and easy. But now I have symptoms of being pregnant and I KNOW that I’m not! My first period was a doozy, heavy like water and huge blood clots. I have three children so I know when I’m prgnant, The first and up most symptom for me is the tender boobs, the weird thing is that I’m having “let downs” and I leak. So really I’m just wanting and trying to research info about any hormonal changes after having this procedure and wanting to know if these symptoms ever go away.

I had a tubal ligation in April of 2002. My problems started right away. My hair started thinning, I developed brown spots on my arms, my breast sunk in and my mood swings started. I have been going from doctor to doctor just to be told that my hormones are normal and nothing is wrong. They put me on the pill but it made my cramps a thousand times worse. I was not on the pill for 4 years prior to the tubal ligation so they cannot blame it on suddenly not taking birth control pills anymore. This has destroyed my life. I no longer feel feminine or feel like being around people but am told I am probably depressed. As soon as I get enough money I am having a tubal reversal. I think it is a shame that doctors can give tubal ligations and know that it could ruin your whole life.

I had my tubes tied in Jan.2000. I have been in the hospital 2 times for being severly anemic. I never thought it could be this. But now I do. I was under anesthesia when I made the final decision. I always regretted it. Now I just want to feel better. Is there anyway any insurance will cover this?

I had my tubes tied 10 days ago and I litterally think that it is a slow death!!!The pain is unexplainable and excruciating.I wish I could turn back the hands of time. I would rather practice abstinence from my husband than to go through this.I am saving every dime I can for a reversal,Im not going to by myself a cold cola or anything unnecessary because the only thing I think about is I could be that much closer to feeling better!!!!

I am saving to get the TR and have another baby. I had my TL 15 years ago. I just stumbled across this blog about PTLS. I am shocked I have had so many problems since I had my TL. I thought I was going crazy; no one believed me, I was in my mid 20′s and the Dr. wanted to give me a hysterectomy. They said I was in early stages of menopause – at 22! The pain from my periods is unreal. I would scream in pain,and vomit for hours. I have lost jobs, and missed out on life. The Dr. put me on birth control pills. it does help with the cramps and make my cycle shorter, but the headaches, crying, and mood swings are still full force. I was scared to get my tubes reversed because I was afraid to stop taking birth control pills and bring back all the painful periods. But now after reading all of this, I have even more reason to have the operation. Thank you all for sharing your stories.

I had my tubes tied on aug 1st of this year. I had a c-section and then after my daughter was born they tied them, The few things i have noticed is weight gain, fatigue, cramping now and then and some headaches. i thought three out of the four was because it was my fourth and im not sleeping as well and such things when a new baby arrives. But i went back to the doc today for a really bad cold and they did my weight and low and behold im gaining weight. im so upset because the only time i gain weight is when im pregnant.i have always lost weight and it stays gone. Now the doc told me that because i had my tubes tied i might gain weight. i asked him why my OB didnt tell me this he said he didnt know. I dont eat a whole lot and yet im gaining. im so depressed about this.

I am 29 yrs old and had my tubal ligation about 2 and a half years ago and I am regretting it. I do not want more kids but do want a reversal. I get headaches all the time, I am becoming increasingly moody before and after my period. I never got cysts on my ovaries before my TL and didn’t have painful periods but since my TL I get cysts on my ovaries monthly and have long painful periods. I cannot loose weight and I have been put on depression medication which I have never had to be on before and I have been through a lot in my life. I get angry with my kids over little things and feel like I don’t have my patience anymore. I hate this but can’t afford the reversal and don’t have insurance. When I tell the Dr’s my problems they put me on birth control but it makes it 3 times as bad. I was on the yaz pill and broke out more and got cysts on my ovaries and my monthly period three times this month. I don’t know what to do I can’t live like this anymore I hate being in pain monthly.

Yes, I feel the same way…I’ve never had any bad pain when my cycle came on before the TL, and now it’s so bad I have to miss work the first day it comes on. I have no desire for sex anymore, my podido is very low. I have terrible headaches, and I addressed all my symtoms to my doctor..I even asked him could it be from the TL and he said no! I’m glad I found Dr. Berger, I will be doing the reversal next month, I can’t wait!

I had my tubes tied 11 years ago and from the first month on my menes have increasingly heavy and more painful. I am recently remarried and trying to explain the painful sexual experience is very difficult. I was on the verge of begging for a hysterectomy until I looked into having a tubal reversal so I could get pregnant again. The side effects I have experienced are exactly those of PTLS. The doctors forget to tell you about these kind of side effects.

I had clips put on my fallopian tubes when i was 21 years old. I was told then they were the easiest to reverse. After 20 years of intense monthly pain and all doctors telling me I am imagining things,and crazy, I can assure you all, the ligation is incredibly uncomfortable for some women indefinitely. I also feel the tubal has led to an over accentuated empty nest depression, as I was young enough to have more babies when my body screamed for them. I wish I never did it.

I’ve had my tubes tied approximately 15 years ago – which I sadly regret because I would love to have a baby now but am hesitant to do the reversal.Ssince then I experience abdominal pains during intercourse to the point that I don’t even want to anymore, which is not fair to my husband. I never thought this would happen and wished that I was told about it.
