Reversing Tubal Ligation Through a Small Incision

Reversing Tubal Sterilization

Tubal ligation reversal at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center is a simple and safe outpatient operation for reversing tubal sterilization through a small incision that results in minimal discomfort and recovery time.

Dr. Gary Berger and Dr. Charles Monteith specialize in untying tubes. Women travel to Chapel Hill, NC from all over the United States and other parts of the world to have their tubes repaired after a previous tubal ligation. Over 7000 women have chosen to come here for their reversal procedures because we specialize exclusively in tubal ligation reversal, have perfected the outpatient approach to reversal surgery, and have the best success in terms of pregnancies after tubal reversal surgery.

Reversal Surgery Through a Small Incision

Patients often ask about the size and location of the incision for untying the tubes. The incision is about 2 to 3 inches in length at top of the pubic hair line similar to a “Bikini incision”. This incision is about one-third the length of an average C-section incision. In thin patients, it is not much wider than a quarter. It is sufficient, however, to be able to repair the tubes successfully. This type of incision results in the least amount of pain after reversal surgery and the fastest recovery time. Heavier patients, or those who have had multiple abdominal operations, may require longer incisions.

Reducing Postoperative Pain

Factors that cause postoperative pain are:

Length and location of the surgical incision
Using retractors to expose the pelvic organs
Using packs to push away the intestines

Our surgical techniques minimize postoperative pain. We use a small, transverse (cross wise) bikini line incision. We avoid routinely using retractors and packs. Patients at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center are much more comfortable than after standard abdominal surgery. This avoids the high cost of having to recover in a hospital.

Pride in Our Tubal Reversal Mission

The tubal reversal doctors at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center specialize exclusively in repairing fallopian tubes. What do we mean when way say this?

We do not talk patients into in vitro fertilization (IVF).
We make tubal reversal affordable.
We provide ongoing postoperative follow-up.
We have the best results leading to pregnancy.

As tubal reversal specialists, we provide a safe and comfortable outpatient approach for reversing tied tubes. This makes tubal ligation reversal the best option for women who want to have more children or who simply want their bodies restored to normal after a surgical sterilization.

We take great pride in making tubal ligation safe and affordable for women throughout the world.

Our pregnancy statistics show pregnancy is possible after most tubal ligations and we are able to repair tubes in 98% of women who come to our center. You can go to our message board to view the reports of pregnancy after tubal reversal.

  2. Angela Says:

My husband and I are very interested in having a child together. I have three of my own from my previous marriage. I never thought that I would want more children, but I have found someone very special and he doesn’t have any kids. I went back to my doctor and she told me my tubes can not be reversed. But from the looks of your information provided it looks like there still is hope in becoming pregnant.

  3. webmaster Says:

‘Angel55′ a Tubal Reversal Patient scheduled for tubal reversal surgery in a few days asked What to Expect Regarding Her Incision. “I am so nervous. Just wondering if anyone knows how bad the tubal reversal incision will be, and how long until the stitches dissolve. Thanks”

  4. Dr. Berger Says:

If an ovarian cyst needs to be removed, that can be done during the tubal reversal surgery at no extra cost.

  5. Cari I. Says:

I was told that I have a cyst on one of my ovaries too. Is this something that can be removed at the time of the reversal within the cost of the reversal surgery? Or would this run more?

  6. Jennifer Okun Says:

    Dear Gabby,

We are able to reverse ligations about 98% of the time and about two thirds of our patients report pregnancy within the first year after their reversal.

We are happy to review your ligation records with you free of charge. We are available at anytime to assist you with scheduling.

I am a mother of 5 children who had my tubes tied over 6yrs ago. I have been having complications since with ovarian cysts and P.I.D. It has affected my sexual life and brought me into deep depression. I met a man whom I love dearly and wants me to have his child after we are married. I want to be able to give this man whatever it is he wants because he does that for me. How can I go about having a successful reversal while at the same time eliminating the issue with the cysts and P.I.D.?

I am married to a soldier and want my tubes untied. I had them clipped, tied and burnt ten years ago. I still have menstrual with a lot of pain and depression. I want to have this done with Tri-care, but the military doctors are saying that there is no such thing as PTLS and that I have to have IVF done when my husband comes back from deployment. What should I do?

  18. SarahM Says:

    Camberoserica,
Dr. Berger and Dr. Monteith are able to perform tubal reversals on many different types of tubal ligations, including instances where the tubes have been tied and burned. The pregnancy rate for patients who have had a reversal after their tubes were tied and burned is 69%. I sent you an email with more information – please let me know if you have any questions!

  19. Charles Monteith MD Says:

When you have a tubal ligation there is a rare chance of pregnancy- 1 out of 250. Half of these pregnancies will be in the fallopian tube (ectopic pregnancy). So about 1 out of 500 women will have a normal pregnancy without any problems.

If you want to become pregnant then you should not count on this rare chance (you should consider a tubal reversal). If you do not want to become pregnant after you have had your tubes tied, then you should not worry- chances are you will not.

If you go to the Getting Started page on our website, it will give you step-by-step instructions about how to proceed. Please contact Julia Smith, RN at JuliaS@tubal-reversal.net for further assistance.
