No spillage means the dye did not come out of the end of the tube and usually this means your tubes are blocked. You can send us your HSG pictures and we will take a look at them for you. IVF works 36% each time you try. The cost is $10,000 for each try. Tubal surgery can be 30-50% effective at providing you with pregnancy. Tubal surgery cost $6,000 to 8,000 depending on what is done.

I asked at the time I had the HSG if they do surgery to correct the problem and was told they dont do any more because can cause more damage. They recommended IVF. What do you think? Can you tell base on the above Hsg results if my tubes are completely block? It said that the tubes filled, but know spillage. Where exactly is the tubes blocked and can it be fixed.

Either your tubes are blocked of the test was inconclusive. You should consider a repeat HSG or you can come to see us for a laparoscopy (camera to look at your tubes) and inject dye into your uterus while directly looking at your tubes. If you have any tubal blockage it can be repaired at that time.

Had 1 baby naturally, baby girl now 7 years old. Not able to get pregnant since. Had hsg done. Results are
There is a filling defect in the interstitial portion of the Right Fallopian Tube which appears somewhat linear in more complete filling. The right tube does not completely filled. The uterus otherwise opacifies normally. The Endometrial cavity is normal in size and contour. There is normal opacification of the left fallopian tube. Intraperitoneal constrast spillage from the fallopian tubes was not visualized.
What exactly do this mean? Is both my tubes blocked? can I get pregnant natually again? Could the test be wrong?

Prasad_wants_baby - These results mean the left tube is open but may not be open completely and the right tube may be blocked at the end by the ovary. The only way to interpret HSG results accurately are to examine the x-ray images themselves. If you would like me to do this, your wife will need to instruct the radiologist to send me the HSG images. If she wants that, here is my address:

Gary S. Berger, M.D.
Medical Director
Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center

The tubes may have a partial or complete blockage. It is only bad if you are trying to become pregnant and are not able to do so. If you are considering tubal surgery or want to know more about your options you are welcome to send us the images of your HSG films for a second opinion. Please include your medical history and a way to get back in touch with you. Feel free to call the office at (919)968-4656 and one of our nurses can explain how to mail your HSG images to us.

The endometrial cavity is normal in appearance.
Both tubes filled with contrast but appear thickened. No spill is seen on the left tube, free spillage on the right tube but it was a little delayed
IMPRESSION:- Possible salpingitis with occlusion of left fallopian tube

is this bad?

Spillage of dye means your tubes are open. This is normal. There is likely another reason for your miscarriages but your doctor will have to evaluate you for all the possibilities.

My doctor told me he cannot talk to me until Jan.9th about my HSG. I have had three miscarriages and the most recent on Nov. 13.I have never had a heartbeat.

My 15 viles of blood work came in normal and all my husbands blood work (etc) came in normal. I have normal period cycles and ovulate regularly. I am normal weight, eat well, healthy body for both my husband and I.
My doctor only suggested the HSG as a check off. Now he says he found in the bilateral tubes more spillage on the right side than the left side. They call it intraperitoneal spillage. He wants to do a surgery where they go and look at it.Will this surgery to just look at it, help?
I am so confused. Can spillage cause miscarrigaes? I don't want another surgery if it may not help me.
Please help with any answers you can.

Rose
You should be able to become pregnant. You can send your HSG films to us for review. If pregnancy is not happening you may need a laparoscopy to take a direct look at your tubes from the inside.

I am trying to conceive since 3 years but with no luck. I am 33 years old. All the test are normal but HSG says minimum spillage on right tube and small spillage on left tube. Is this, the tubes are open? Does this mean I can get pregnant? I have undergone three IUI but with no success.

It means dye is coming out of your tubes but only a small amount. Technically your tubes are open. Other than this we can not tell you what the findings mean because we don't know the clinical context, why the x-rays were being doing, or your medical history.

This means the tubes are open because the dye did come out of the ends of the tubes;however, the dye collected in areas outside the tube and this can indicate pelvic adhesions or scar tissue. If infertility is the reason for the hsg the a surgery may be indicated.

Tanisha -

I would need to examine your HSG images myself in order to give an accurate interpretation. If you want to have them sent to me, you can contact the radiology department where the HSG was performed and instruct them to send me a copy of your HSG images. You will also need to include your name and email address or phone number so I can get back in touch with you if you have them sent to me.

Hi,

I did an HSG test in October the result is: I did a HSG the findings was:

the endometrial cavity is normal in size and contour
both fallopian tubes are opacified in there entirety.
However, no peritoneal spill is demonstrated from either tube.

conculsion: No evidence of peritoneal spill.? Muscle spam.? Physical occlusion

THEN I DID ANOTHER HSG TEST YESTERDAY AND THE RESULT IS:

The endometrial cavity is normal in appearance.
Both tubes filled with contrast but appear thickened. Free but delayed spill of contrast is seen on the right, but no spill is seen on the left.
IMPRESSION:- Possible salpingitis with occlusion of left fallopian tube

What does this mean and can i get pregnant?
PLEASE

Jane - This is an unusual sequel to an HSG. It is hard to know if you will ovulate late or not at all this cycle.

Hi - I had an HSG test on day 6 of my cycle (about a week and a half ago) - my results were normal and there were no problems detected. However, it appears to have delayed my ovulation - I've been monitoring it for over a year now and my doctor has tested me to confirm that I am ovulating (I am) and I normally ovulate on day 14 - my cycle is 28 days long, like clockwork. I'm now on day 18 and still haven't ovulated - can this be caused by the HSG procedure and if so, will it be delayed or will I simply not ovulate this month? My doctor told me the test would increase my fertility, so I'm just wondering how that would be possible if I don't ovulate this month...
Any input you have would be much appreciated - thanks so much!

Sam
You could have endometriosis but that can not be diagnosed by a HSG x-ray. Surgery is the only way to diagnose endometriosis and you can conceive after a tubal implantation is performed.

Sam - Your HSG indicates that your tubes may be blocked at the junction of the uterus. Tubal implantation is a procedure that can overcome this type of tubal blockage.

Maryam - Your HSG report shows that your tubes are open but the ends are reported to be swollen or enlarged. You may be able to get pregnant naturally, or you may benefit from a fimbrioplasty in which the ends of the tubes are opened further. This delicate microsurgical procedure is performed as outpatient surgery at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center.

I had my HSG test two days ago and my report says : the control was non-contributory
Normal cervical canal
There is a normal anteverted uterus with no filling defects identified
Both tubes were promptly demonstrated but demonstrate bilateral small terminal hydrosalpinges
These are non-occlusive with partially spill evident bilaterally
What does this report mean??
Can I fall pregnant naturally?

Tanisha Lee - This could mean that an insufficient amount of dye was injected. I would need to see the x-ray images to be able to give a specific interpretation.

the endometrial cavity is normal in size and contour

However, no peritoneal spill is demonstrated from either tube.

conculsion: No evidence of peritoneal spill.? Muscle spam.? Physical occlusion

Pregnancy rate are increased after HSG and we don't full know why. We think it may flush debris out of some tubes when it is done.

Nikki
The clips have caused your tubes to heal closed even though they may have slipped off your tubes. This is very common with Filshie clips. The clips have done their job and the chance of a failure (even if the clips have come off) is less than 2%.

You have swollen tubes (distal hydrosalpinx) with narrow ends and a small amount of dye coming out. If you are having trouble getting pregnant then you should consider coming to us to open the partially closed ends (ampullary salpingostomy), allow the fluid to come out and increase your chances of pregnancy.

Recently had an HSG and my OBGYN physician is unable to interpret the report. He states his expertise is not in the field, but he told me that the dye did make it to the end point. I'm confused...
Report says "retrograde opacification of the FTs is identified extending to the proximal ampullary segments. No further opacification of the fallopian tubes were identified. The FTs are opacified to the proximal ampullary segments. No distal opacification of the fallopian tubes was accomplished. What does all this mean? Are my chances of becoming pregnant no longer a possibility?

Natasha - Please have the radiology office or department send us your HSG images to examine. Often the tubes are said to be blocked when in fact the dye did not enter the tubes. In this case, the HSG cannot determine if the tubes are open or closed. We like to see the x-ray images to compare with your operative report and will contact you when they arrive. Your tubes are not too short to conceive.

I am totally depressed. I had tubal reversal on 5/11/2011 and although my repaired tubes were on the shorter side (3.50R and 4.75L) I had hope of conceiving. In July my GYN referred me to a RE because he said my chances of having another child naturally were practically impossible with such short tubes, and my age (35). The RE I was referred to put me on clomid days 5-9 and ordered some tests, a hsg and IUI. I had my HSG done today and the result is that both my tubes are completely blocked. I don't understand how my tubes have become blocked so quickly.

I had a HSG and below is the report::
The HSG was performed by injecting 8-10ccs of conray 280 after atropinisation.
The uterine cavity is well opacified and appear triangular in shape. No filling defects are noted in uterine cavity.
The fallopian tubes on the either sides are opacified and appear normal in caliber, smooth in outline and do not show any irregularity.
There is free peritoneal spill on the either sides.
Gross extravasation of contrast is noted.

Please tell what does this reoprt mean, if eveything okay??

An HSG is a good test to see if your only remaining tube is open or closed.

Dear Dr Berger,

I had 3x ectopic pregnancy, 1 tube has been removed and the rest was treated by injection which the latest was May 2011. My dr from Singapore asked me to do HSG on July however I am thinking to do it in Phils instead this Aug. I am worried to go through the HSG for I am not sure if I can take the worries if the result is negative again. Please advice me how can i take the result openly and should I go now? Thank you.

Rose - It is difficult to comment about your chances of getting pregnant without reviewing your medical records, but if your cycles are irregular then treatment with Clomid or other appropriate medications to ensure regular ovulation would certainly help.

Hie,
I have had three tubal surgeries after HSG results indicating blocked tubes with fimbrial adhesions with no spill. The first surgery was done in Nov 2009 where the surgeon indicated that my left tube was corneal blocked and the right tube was ampillarly blocked, However, he managed to fix the right tube. In August 2010 i got a an ovarian ectopic pregnancy which caused a rupture of the right ovary. The doctor then requested another HSG on Feb 2011 which shows blocked tubes. However, the right tube seemed shorter than the left tube a phenomenon that the doctor did not adequately explain to me. He told me that the left tube stand a chance and can prepared. I must admit that i was surprised since the doctor who performed the first surgery had indicated that the left tube was blocked beyond repair. I sought his advise and after a closer look on the images he said that the tube could be repaired and that the corneal blockage he had noted during the initial operation was because of the immobility of the body during the surgical procedure. Due to desperation and age factor, i am 29, i agreed to take another surgery in May, 2011 where the doctor performed an open bilateral salpingostomy.During the surgery the doctor noted that the left tube was blocked at isthmus while the Right tube was blocked at fimbrial end. Cuffing and adhesionlysis was done and adequate spill noted from both tubes. Now it is the third month since the surgery and i have note conceived but i have noted delayed periods which affects my ovulation.Though i am getting my periods but irregularly, i have not been able to note my ovulation day and the doctor told me to go back after six months of constant trial. What should I do to regulate my periods and ovulation. should take fertility drugs such as clomid? Additionally, with three operations do i stand a chance of getting pregnancy with a history of PID which seems never to go away. I will appreciate your help. Thanks in advance

Sarah - This indicates a proximal tubal blockage on the right side or an alternative explanation is tubal spasm preventing any dye from getting into the tube.

Hi,

I had a HSG Scan in Feb of this year and was told my right tube was blocked. The report reads as follows:

"No abmormality identified within the uterine cavity. The left fallopian tube filled readily and outlined normally with free peritoneal spill. No part of the right fallopian tube filled during this examination indicating complete blockage"

Does this mean i have a proximal blockage or distal blockage?

Most likely it is due to tubal spams or mcuous plugs in the tube..very often the HSG is not accurate in these cases.

I had a c-section in the past. I have been trying to TTC my 2nd for the past year, I just had a HSG, with a conclusion patency not established. (tube are opacified but there is no peritoneal spill), my question is what can cause the tubes to block? Can a c-section damage your tubes? Your reply is much appreciated.

Egg release happens on day 14. If you have a HSG around this time it could prevent pregnancy. If it happens after it could interfere with implantation.

since the egg formation already takes places on 8th day, HSG on 10th day...will it not wash away the aggs or causes any fetel damage.

My ovulation is on 8th feb....however, HSG was done on 10th day...still bleeding(3rd day). thanks for your reply.
Dr. said that bleeding will be there for 3 days after HSG. If bleeding continues for more days..i will miss my ovulation day. however, she gave us the dates from 7 - 9th feb for conception.

If you have had the HSG test done and it showed one or both tubes were open then they should still be open and should not have closed. You could always consider having it repeated and if you do send us the images for evaluation. If your tubes are open and your husbands sperm are normal then this is called unexplained infertility and you should see a reproductive specialist.

It is not unusual for cycles to vary. Menstrual cycle lengths between 28 and 31 days are normal. An occasional late cycle is ok also. It usually indicates that ovulation occurred later than the usual cycle day.

Karen - You should not have another HSG since it can cause further damage to your fallopian tubes. If you have the hospital or radiologist send me your x-ray images, I can let you know if tubal reparative surgery may be beneficial for you.

I had an hsg done for the first time and felt disappointed when the dr. said sorry there is nothing we can do. The dr said my tubes are partially blocked. when i looked at the pictures i wondered to myself could they have done more because only before reaching the end it was blocked. Do u think i should take another one next month and see if it would clear before taking an operation to clear them?

I am from Belize City and i really need more advice because the doctors in my country some of them take the time to do there work and would go the extra mile. The others don’t care to be honest. I took the test last Friday that was the 1 October and nobody told me that HSG had side effects i had to look it up on the internet. I had a fever and some cramping.

I have two children already ages 13 and 16. All my blood work was good and after taking the hsg the only problem the x – ray or radiologist found was my partially blocked tubes.

Adejoke - Your HSG indicates the fimbrial ends of the tubes have some scarring but that your tubes are open. Laparoscopy is needed to further evaluate and possibly treat this.

Well I have started a new medicine called Femara. I dont know what else to do to get pregnant.I seem to try everything. I am not over weight, I do exercise. Could caffeine and smoking have anything to do with me not becoming pregnant? I have a hsg and Dr. Berger said that one of my tubes were open but I told other doctors that in they said if the dye did not spill then your tubes are closed. But how would they get block again on there own. Is that other doctor wrong. Who should I believe,

Yes, day 13 is too late to schedule an HSG. You may already be ovulating since your cycles average 27 days. Read the tips for HSG testing.

I had a tubal reversal 5 years ago and have had no luck. I had an HSG 6 months after that and both of my tubes were open. My Dr. has decided that i should have another HSG done. He has scheduled my HSG on cycle day 13 is that too late to have it done? My cycle is usually 27 days, will the dye have any affect on my cervical fluid or my husbands sperm?

Most patients become pregnant within the year after tubal ligation reversal. You need to have the HSG to see if your tubes are open and your films need to be reviewed by the reversal surgeon. If your tubes are open then there could be other reasons and you need to see a fertility specialist.

I have had my tubal reversal done almost two years ago and I had no luck at all. They had me on two different medications and I had that test done and still no luck. How long could it take after a tubal reversal to get pregnant?
I'm a 37yr. female with a history of tubal ligation followed by a tubal re-anastomosis. Also had a heterotopic pregnancy in 3/2010 with a exploratory laporatomy right salpingectomy. Initially with a spontaneous abortion. Just recently underwent a hysterosalpingogram 8/2010 which resulted to be effectively blocked. And was wondering what my next option would be? Should I try a tubal cannalation to try to unblock it or is my only other option IVF?
