Hi, I am 31 years old i had an ectopic pregnancy on my right tube last year and the doctors were able to save my tube, after that pregnancy they did many other ultrasounds and an HSG they found that both tubes were open and the litle cyst i had it was getting smaller y tried to get pregnant again this year and an ectopic on my left side this time, at this point my OBGYN says that i will need an specialist in fertility in order to get pregnant she says that both tubes are damage but i really don’t know what could cause the problem I’ve never had any desease as far as i know, which one of your procedures could help me in order to reverse the problem and if i am a candidate for that please let me know, I really want to be a mom soon.

Hi, I am 37 years old and in 2003 I had laparoscopy, where was found endometriosis. In 2005 I had another laparoscopy but that time was ovarian cyst. In october 2006 I had HSG and my left side was blocked and right side half blocked. They wrote as a secondary sterility. I did try for years for getting pregnant but unsuccessfully. In august 2011 I was on scan because I had some problems and pain and they found again ovarian cyst. Since last november I do try some naturally treatment using Naturally Progesterone and I see my period changed and my PMS is disappeared. I have appointment for this week for scan and after that I would like to try unblock my fallopian tubes with laser. Do you think I have some chance to get pregnant after that? Teela – The functional cyst will not prevent you from getting pregnant but if your tubes are blocked they will have to be unblocked for you to get pregnant. If you have test results that show blocked tubes you can send them to me to review.

We would need you to send us your records. You can send us the reports from your surgery and the reports of any x-rays you have had performed. If both your tubes are open then you will not benefit from a tubal surgery. If your tubes are blocked since your laparoscopic surgery then you will either need another surgery to open the ends of the tubes or consider IVF. You should be aware that each cycle of IVF costs between $10,000 to $12,000 and has an average chance of success around 35%.

You should have a HSG to see if your tubes are open since your last surgery.

Hi,

I was told by my Dr that both my fallopian tubes are block. I had a laparoscopy surgery to remove blockage and the Dr found scarr tissue in my fallopian tubes – which he then removed thru surgery. I think the scar tissue was caused PID. The surgery was successful but he said both my fallopian tubes are enlarged and not repairable. Due to this I cant get pregnant like normal as my fallopian tube are unable to push my eggs down. I had an 1 early miscarriage and 1 unsuccessful IUI – both done before my laparoscopy surgery.

Is there any hope for me to get my fallopian tube fixed? We am considering IVF – but me and my husband wants at least 4 kids – so is IVF our only option?

In 2007, I had a laperoscopy, dr found scarr tissue in tubes and said I would have to have a laperotomy to go in deeper and have cyst removed and to remove scar tissue, well I had the laperotomy done in 2010, dr. Removed another cyst which when the dr. Went in was a abcess cyst and removed scar tissue from tube that was damaged he also said he folded my tube up ( like if u fold up the bottom of a pant leg). So just a week ago, I went to my gyno for abdominal pains n follow up from Er, cuz I was in er and they did a ct scan, x-ray and said I have another cyst, but anyway my dr. Was reviewing my notes and past history as to he is my new gyno and he informed me that in my notes from previous dr. I had or have PID! Now what’s next, I need help. I get my periods every month and have sex very often and I have never been pregnant and want kids.

September 28, 2011 My doctor removed polys, a cyst, some unevenness from the uterine wall and detached my uterus from my abdomen (she said she see’s it often in woman who have had C-sections)…She went on to tell me that my tubes are damaged beyond repair. I have 1 child and would really like to have more children. I have never had PID. I have had Bacterial Vagininosis several times. Is there any hope for me?

Tubal reversal and pregnancy are both possible if you are having regular periods. Conception is possible but each pregnancy is considered high risk because of the uterine ablation.

Hello Dr, Sorry I should make myself clear, I never had my tubes tied. I just had my fallopian tube clug, the Dr preform a tubal Laparoscopy surgery to remove blockage about 12yrs ago, and 1 tube was clearer then the other after I had a HSG done then. I got pregnant 2 yrs after surgery and had an miscarriage. Now that I’m 38yrs old trying to get pregnant ago I check my fertilization and they are active for my age no problems there, I just had a HSG and results there weren’t clear enough I should get results within 1 week. What are my chances now of my tubes getting blockage again and of a future child. I never had my tubes tied and have no children now.

Hi,i am 39 years old,when 1 was 35 had an ectopic pregnancy in my left tube which was removed with methotrexate.after that referred for fertility investigations,had a hsg where was told tubes blocked due to hydrosalpinx,was then told my only option was to have tubes tied (which i have)prior to ivf.I have had 1 unsuccessful ivf and upon scans can see very swollen left tube,could this be more so as from ectopic? Am currently saving for another ivf but have found you and wondered if you could help me with surgery?? if you need records of hsg etc would i get these from the hosp where it was done,and also what would a rough cost be,many thanks in advance

If you have had a tubal ligation failure the chance of pregnancy is less than 2% and most of these are ectopic pregnancies. Your best chance to have a future child would be tubal reversal and the chance after tubal reversal could be as high as 70%.

Hello, I’am 38 yrs old. I’ve been pregnant once and had a miscarriage about 10yrs ago. I Had a Tubal laparoscopy surgery done about 12yrs ago. Thank you so much for responding so quick. According to the report he gave me, he performed a bilateral micro tubal resconstruction. To quote “Neosalpingostomy was done as there were just scattered fimbrial elemenats at the end but no tube to view anastomosis or reconstruction. Dye did spill through both tubes however. Patient had just distal fimbria but no tube involved in the scattered fimbrial elements. Patient had 7cm of proximal tube and neosalpingostomy was done on both sideds and tied back meticulously. The tube did readily spilled indigo dye without any leakage. The ovary was placed closer to the tube. There was complete hemostasis.

This is what I was givin. Could it be possible that there might be hope for me other than IVF? Thank you again for your prompt response.

Fimbriectomy is a very uncommon type of tubal ligation and this is what is sounds like you had when your tubes were tied. When the fimbria are removed the only way to reverse this is with an ampullary salpingostomy. This sounds like the procedure your doctor performed. If pregnancy does not occur then you will need to consider going to IVF.

My case is very emotional and I hope you can shed some light on something. I had my.daughter Dec 09. During csection doc cut my tubes my daughter died 4 months later to SIDS.devastated over her passing and not being able to conceive again I went to a doctor who assured me that he could reverse my tubes after reviewing operative report. 7000 later he said my fimbria was cut off on both ends. He opened my.tubes and moved my ovary closer to tubes but said my chance was only 20%. He said he didn’t know because it was not indicated that my fimbria was gone. This was two weeks ago and I’m so depressed and mad he didn’t really want to discuss. I never imagined I would lose my daughter much less go thru emotions of a procedure not successful. He said I could do invetro but that i not am option since we spent money on a procedure that wer thought would be simple reversal. Any suggestions to help maybe get pregnant without the fimbria???

I have had all the surgeries Lapro and HYdro and at that time the Dr. inform me and my hubby that he could repair the one tube. I was still under meds being discharged. It has bee a few months now and we are finally ready t move forward and get this procedure done immediately while we can take off work for recovery.

I am 33 years old and I have been TTC now for several years with no luck. Over the last two years I have many examinations, blood work, a HSG procedure, and just this week laparoscopy and dye surgery. During my HSG, my left tube was visible but my right tube was not. My doctor said it could have been due to muscle spasm. A month after my HSG my doctors office called me recommending that I have IVF if I wanted to get pregnant. I didn't know where this was coming from since I thought my left tube was fine. So he finally scheduled me for laparoscopy, one month later, and it turns out that my right tube is fine but my left tube is totally blocked. I was confused by this as it was the opposite of the results of my HSG. So I called his office today for an explanation and spoke with the receptionist who told me that the results of my HSG showed that my left tube was blunted. I assume that means blocked near the ovary. Can you clarify what this means and is it possible to repair? Thank you in advance for any information.

I have the pictures from my surgery. There are no HSG pictures. I called my Dr. office and they saw none in my records, and my Dr. went on vacation till the 25th. I called the hospital where my surgery was performed and all they have are the eight pictures that they gave me. So all I know is what i previously stated,that only drops came out of the tube I have left, which is why she said if I was pregnant to see her right away because shes scared of an ectopic pregnancy. Thank you for the quick response. One more bit of info. I had an STD (chy.) the same time they found the cyst (in between my yearly pap smear).This was the first and only std I have ever had. I believe the scarring and “bent” tube is from this or maybe the cyst. While PID has not been mentioned, with my research I believe this may be what I have or had on that tube and ovary that had to be removed. I took care of the STD as soon as they found out. Maybe this explains things a little more?

Also, that is great you do not charge to review records, but what about to get your professional opinion on them?

Maybe, I can’t wait to go back, I have like thirty questions. She did say bent and she was scared of ectopic pregnancy. Left something out, while she went in for surgery she completed the HSG test and said that only a few drops came out. This is when I began to cry. Then she proceeded to tell me about being afraid of an ectopic pregnancy. I am Catholic and they agree with getting things fixed but not IVF. I am hoping this “bent” tube can be straightened or fixed so that it can do what it needs to do. I will ask how bad it is and what her professional opinion is if we try to conceive, but I would hate to do more damage than harm when I could try to have it fixed first. I am 25 years old and just had surgery because of a cyst. My left tube and ovary had to be removed. I went for my check up a week after my surgery and she told me I had scar tissue and she had to remove the left tube and ovary. She said that my right ovary was fine, my uterus is good, but my right tube is bent. Because of this she is afraid I would have an ectopic pregnancy. I asked if she could fix the tube and she said no. I dont know if that meant her personally or at all. I will go back in six weeks for any questions I may have because all I could do was cry. I have not gotten pregnany and I dont know if my left side damage and/or tube being bent was the cause. I do get my periods every month. I went to talk to a priest today and he told me to get a second opinion. Which I will do soon, I want to leave it in Gods hands, but I would just like to know what you think. I have a list of questions for my gyn. when I go back in 6 weeks. Thank you for your time

Doreen – There is nothing specifically that you can do to avoid an ectopic pregnancy. It is possible to rejoin the cut right tube, but treatment by IVF would minimize the risk of another ectopic pregnancy.

If the HSG test shows that the tube blocked, what the other action. Can the tube be unblocked without undergoing surgery? Can the cut right tube be rejoined again for it to function? What can i do to avoid another ectopic pregnancy with this tube? E.g feeding behaviour, exercise etc. Its painful.

Doreen – Your HSG in 3 months will tell if your tube is still open. If so, you may be able to become pregnant again with this tube although the risk of another ectopic pregnancy will be high given your previous history.

Last year in july i was diagonised with an ectopic pregnancy. The dctor said the tube had raptured and therefore i lost the right tube. Two weeks ago i was diagonized with another ectopic in the left side. The doc said the tube had not raptured. It was repaired during the surgery. Is there any possibility of becoming pregnant with this tube? The doc said we carry out HSG test after three months. We are desperate. We have no child. Please assist.

I had a very bad case of endometriosis that my Doctor had to remove one fallopian tube and remove some of my colon. My Doctor tells me after my HSG test that my one fallopian tube is no longer working. Is there help for me? I was offered Invitro but I wanted to see if I can have my tube repaired. I am 22 years old, and my husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for the past two years. We recently sought help from a fertility specialist who began monitoring my menstrual cycle. Initially she did an ultrasound and and found amble amounts of eggs in my ovaries and no visible problems. Per her recommendation, I had an HSG performed. The doctor performing the x-ray procedure noticed that the dye flowed freely through my fallopian tubes and to the ovaries. However, only the left side spilled into my abdomen, while the right side pooled outside of my ovary. A few days later I had a reaction to the dye and my doctor performed another ultrasound which showed my fallopian tubes severely swollen. She put me on antibiotics and informed me that it was her belief I would never be able to conceive naturally and should have my fallopian tubes removed and start IVF. At this point she had not seen the x-rays from my HSG, but was basing this on the notes from the xray physician and the ultrasound she performed that day. She took cultures from my cervix and sent them to a lab for testing, finding no infections. My question is, can my damaged fallopian tubes be repaired? Or, is my only option removing my tubes at such a young age, and starting IVF? Thank you Dr. Berger!

I am 38 years old with no children but desperately want …both my tubes were damaged i was told only ivf is my option however i had surgery and one tube was removed,one is clamped i want to know if that clamped tube can be repaired so i can conceive naturally…i do produce a decent amount of eggs…if so what would be the cost to do so?

Priscilla – At age 47, you can have a tubal reversal if you are still having normal menstrual cycles. The advantage is that each ovulation cycle there is a chance that you will be able to conceive. Even though the pregnancy rate at age 47 is low, there are numerous women who have had a baby at this age after tubal ligation reversal. If your cycles are not regular and predictable, donor egg IVF would be a better option. The pregnancy rate for donor egg IVF is quite high; the disadvantage is that the eggs that are fertilized would not be yours but would be from a younger woman who is willing to donate her eggs for this purpose. I had tubal ligation performed post delivering her because i was in an abusive relationship and when become pregnant received no support form the father. I have since married and would like to have a child with my loving husband. The tube can be blocked at the end and this causes a condition called a ‘hydrosalpinx’. This can be repaired with an ampullary salpingostomy procedure and the chance of pregnancy is about 30%.

A hydrosalpinx can be repaired with an ampullary salpingostomy. This can be repaired and pregnancy is possible. There may be a higher chance of ectopic if you have extensive damage causing the hydrosalpinx. A hydrosalpinx is best removed only if the tube shows extensive damage and the other tube is normal.

I have been going to another center considering having my tubes reversed. The center has been really unorganized and I am concerned as this is a huge decision for my husband and I. I had my tubes cut/burned six years ago during a C Section. I want to have this reversed. I have a hydrosalphix on one tube and the other is ok. 1. Can the hydrosalpinx be repaired? Or is is better to have that tube removed. All sonograms just show the hydrosalphix everything else is ok. Uterus ect. Thanks!

Your chances of tubal repair would be good with one tube if that tube is healthy. This can only be assessed at the time of tubal surgery. If you have an HSG x-ray images you should send them to us for review.

Hello, I recently underwent laparoscopic surgery with the notion to have my right tube removed due to what my sonogram showed (they thought it was damaged and beyond repairable). My OBGYN did not remove either tube but found that neither of my tubes have the fingerlike tentacles (fimbriae), so apparently my eggs are just hanging out because they’re unable to be suctioned through my tubes due to not having any fimbriae. There was no indication of past infections or endometriosis. This is something that my OBGYN has never seen before. I’m assuming that this isn’t something normally seen with infertility. Have you ever seen a case like this and are there any options for repairing this type of case….before I seek out alternative fertility treatments. Thanks, Angela

I has HSG and the result shows dilation at the distal third in the right tube and dilation at the distal half in the left tube. Please what does this mean? is it a tubal blockage?

You can get pregnant with one tube. The scar tissue can be removed but it depends on where it is in the tube. If the scar tissue is on the end of the tube then the tube causing a hydrosalpinx then it can be repaired. You should send us the images of your hsg x-rays for evaluation. You can send them to my attention with a cover letter describing your medical and surgical history.

I had an ectopic pregnancy in Dec of 1999. I had my right tube removed. I had an hsg done in 2009 and the results were my left tube is open but have scar tissue that is keeping me from getting pregnant. Can the scar tissue be removed so i can get pregnant? If so how long would that last?

Misty - Tubal blockage is often due to infection, also called pelvic inflammatory disease. Your HSG images will be able to indicate the most likely cause of the blockage. In most cases, tubal surgery can correct blocked tubes. If you don't get answers from the specialist, you can send your HSG images here to be reviewed.

I just got the Hysterosalpingogram done and got the news that both of my tubes are blocked. I have 3 kids which 2 were c section. I want one more I am 34 and my hubby is 24 and his test came back normal. I don't know why they are blocked but the OB wants me to go see a specialist to see what the blockage is in both my tubes. Am I gonna be able to have another child?

I had a Hsg test done in last year which indicates that i have bilateral occlusion with hydrosplinx.
