International Tubal Ligation Reversal: Age 40
Susan is a 40 year old international patient who traveled from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center for tubal ligation reversal in December of 2008. Susan opted to not have her tubes untied in the UAE or the United Kingdom. Instead, Susan and her husband Stephen chose to travel to Chapel Hill, NC from the Middle East to have her tubal reversal by the reversal specialists of Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center.
Tubal Reversal And Ovarian Cyst
Susan’s story is interesting because she has only one ovary. Her other ovary had been removed during her teenage years. Her remaining ovary was almost entirely replaced by a dermoid ovarian cyst.
The ovarian cyst posed a dilemma for Susan because many general gynecology doctors can not or will not perform tubal reversal procedures. Susan had two choices: she could have the ovarian cyst removed in her country but not have her tubes untied or she could travel to us to have both procedures done at the same time.
She only had one remaining ovary and it was important that her tubal anastomosis be performed precisely. If her remaining ovary was damaged during the removal of the dermoid cyst she would never be able to have a child genetically her own. If her tubes were not repaired then she would have to either abandon the idea of having children or undergo treatment by in vitro fertilization (IVF).
