Tubal Ligation Reversal Journey of Georgia Peach : Our Decision

Tubal Ligation Reversal – Right Decision For Our Family?

tubal-reversal-patient-geor4Tubal ligation reversal surgery wasn’t an instant decision for us. We had questions, concerns, and decided to investigate this further. How would our family and friends feel? What would they think? What would our kids think? How would we pay for it? What exactly do we have to do to have tubal reversal surgery? So many questions…..

Tubal Ligation Reversal Video

The first thing my husband did was order the Tubal Reversal DVD from Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center. After watching the DVD and seeing how the reverse tubal procedure would work, we decided that this was something we were really interested in. We discussed how our families would react and knew there would be concerns. My husband wasn’t extremely close to his parents and he decided that it was our life and decision. We decided we wouldn’t share this tubal reversal decision with them. My problem was I share EVERYTHING with my mom and it was killing me not to tell her. About a week before the surgery, I confessed all to her. While she does question my reasoning behind wanting tubal reversal surgery, she ultimately supports my decision. We decided since our kids were mostly younger and wouldn’t understand the logistics of it all that we would simply tell them that we were going out of town for a few days. Later on, if they ever thought to ask, we would then discuss our decision to have tubal reversal with them.

Tubal Reversal – Friends’ Reactions

In the beginning, I told a few friends about it, and got everything from “Have you LOST your mind?” to “Go for it!”. My boss at the vet clinic assured me time off wouldn’t be a problem. She and my coworkers have been HUGELY supportive. Their support has helped immensely. But what it really came down to was – it was our lives, our decision, and we would be the ones to pick up the pieces if things didn’t go the way we wanted. Yes, I know, easier said than done…..

Scheduling Tubal Reversal Surgery Step-by-Step

So, we have decided this is the path for us. Now what? The first thing seemed to be to see if I was even a candidate for tubal ligation reversal surgery. In November, I faxed a records release form to the hospital where I had my tubal ligation surgery (tubes tied). They wouldn’t send them to me, but would mail them to the reversal center. Talk about frustrating! They wouldn’t fax “long distance” and said it could take a few weeks, because my records were likely in storage.

By January I hadn’t heard anything, but hadn’t really thought about it as I knew it would be February before I could schedule. A post about records surfaced on the message boards, and I posted I hadn’t heard anything about mine, assuming the hospital hadn’t sent them. Then Julia, one of the reversal staff nurses, replied they had received my tubal ligation surgical reports and had sent an email to me in December. My spam filter had caught it and I never saw it. I was a good candidate for reversal surgery! I yelled for Kevin, all I could do was point at the computer screen and cry. He picked me up out of my chair and hugged me. It was a wonderful night !

Candidate For Tubal Ligation Reversal Surgery | How Do We Pay?

So, now we know I’m a good candidate….. How do we come up with the money? Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center does offers several payment options. We decided since it was close to spring (tax time), we would wait and see if we would get enough back on our taxes to pay for the surgery. We barely squeaked by with enough. The wait for the taxes to come back seemed to take forever. I’m quite sure that two weeks have NEVER gone by as slow as those two weeks did. The day my tax returns were deposited, I sat outside with hubby in our car outside my office and scheduled my appointment. I couldn’t believe it when I was able to get a date in less than two weeks away! My journey to have tubal reversal surgery was almost complete!
