My Journey to Tubal Reversal With Dr. Berger – Part 3

This is the last section of a 3 part article written by Lisa R. from Connecticut. Lisa’s Journey to Tubal Reversal – Part 1 describes the beginning of her tubal reversal journey upon the loss of her son, Jayden, at 2 months of age. Lisa’s Journey to Tubal Reversal – Part 2 describes her experiences coming to Chapel Hill, her preoperative consultation, and the day of her tubal ligation reversal procedure.

After My Tubal Reversal

Now, waking up is a whole new story that I remember, although somewhat foggily. There are certain highlights which I do remember, particularly my recovery room nurse, Lyndi’s beautiful sunshine smile and talking with Dr. Berger again. My tubes were repaired and 4 cm of scar tissue had been removed from one tube (which answered many questions about a lot of pain I had been having since having my TL). I was told I had one tube that was 8 cm and one that was 4 cm. The surgery was a SUCCESS!!!! I do so remember those words. I do not remember too much after that for a while. I do know, however, that I was up and walking around soon after my surgery. And I even went out for a walk, a nice walk, with my mother later that day. I took the medication for a few days (mainly because of the long drive), but within 4 days or so, I didn’t need to take the Vicodin anymore, only Motrin for some aches and pains.

I Have Been Given Another Chance

Here I am now, July 8th, 2009. So far, I am still waiting for a positive, and it is undeniably sad when you get the first negative for a pregnancy test. But, now I am also able to see myself as TRYING!!!! I can test, I can try, I have been given another chance at trying to conceive! I don’t know what the future will bring, and I know that there are no guarantees in this life, but I still have a chance that I did not have only a little over a month ago.

My Journey Continues

Many of the physical symptoms I was having after my tubal ligation are starting to ease up, which is a beautiful thing. I intend to keep in touch with Dr. Berger and his staff for a long time to come, and I can not tell you how many times I have brought him up and recommended him to other people. So, while I continue on my TTC journey, (I have made friends again, because of Dr. Berger and his website and on his message boards!) I will continue to be in touch with everyone at CHTRC and keep my hopes high that one day my dream will come true. But, the fact is, if it were not for Dr. Berger, I could not even be dreaming this in the first place. I COULD NEVER and WOULD NEVER forget Dr. Berger or anyone at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center. I am sorry I can not remember everyone’s names because I do remember everyone’s face. I am grateful for having met everyone there, because my life has been impacted immensely by everyone I met there.

  1. Charles Monteith MD Says:

You can have an Essure reversal and become pregnant. Your situation is unique because you have had a failure of the initial method. You should have a HSG xray to determine where the tubal opening is. You can then send these xrays to us and we can give you a better idea of what can be done.

I am 34 yrs old and I had Essure done in 2005 and in December of 2009 I found out that I am pregnant. Can doctor Berger still reverse my tubes for an Essure reversal?
