Tubal Ligation Reversal Angel Has Her Tubes Untied
Posted On: Monday, March 8th, 2010
In June of 2009, we were graced by a tubal reversal angel Tonya. These angels did not come from far away. They traveled together from Rocky Mount, North Carolina to have reversal of tubal ligation in Chapel Hill at the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center. Tonya came with her husband, Donald, and she is 33 years of age and works as an insurance analyst. Donald is 31 and is employed as a sanitation engineer.
They are married and they desire a child together. Tonya and Donald are tubal reversal angels because they have had to cope with the unexpected loss of an older child. Below is her story…
Tubaligation: Tube Tying Procedure
Tonya had a tubaligation (tubes tied) procedure after having two children from a previous marriage. Her first child, Taylor, had a difficult and traumatic delivery. Taylor’s shoulder became stuck when she was being born.
Taylor was born with low Apgar scores, was unresponsive, and had to be revived by the medical team at the bedside.
She was subsequently diagnosed with cerebral palsy, required total care after birth, and would need assistance for the remainder of her life.
Tonya’s second child, Tanner, was born healthy and by a scheduled c-section. Before the c-section, Tonya decided her family was complete and during her surgery she underwent a ligation resection tubal sterilization.
Reversal Tubal Ligation
We are all aware of how unpredictable life can be. After the birth of her last child, Tonya, like many of our tubal reversal patients, went through a divorce. Like many of our reversal patients, Tonya briefly talked to her doctor after her divorce about the possibility of having a tubal reversal should she meet a new partner. Her doctor discouraged her from the idea of a tubal ligation reversal, and instead informed her that in vitro fertilization was a better option.
Life can be both unpredictable and cruel. Shortly after Tonya’s divorce, Taylor died unexpectedly at the age of 12. The exact cause of death was never determined. Tonya has had to deal with a traumatic birth and extended care for a child with unexpected disabilities. She has also had to cope with the unexpected and unexplained death of this same child at a very young age.
Tubaligation Reversal: New Life’s Love
Tonya was reintroduced to the concept of a new love at a Chile’s restaurant. Over a bar side discussion of beach music and shag dancing, she met Donald. They dated for three years, became married, and have now been married for one year.
After marriage, they decided they would like to have a child together. Since her ob/gyn was discouraging about tubal reversal, they started looking into IVF and researching the risks of IVF. During an internet search they came across information for tubaligation reversal and the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center website. The were impressed with the statistics on the chances of getting pregnant after tubal reversal.
They then became aware of how successful tubal reversal surgery can be and how the reversal surgery can be much more effective than IVF for many couples.
Tonya and Donald thought about the newly discovered information and they then called and scheduled an appointment for a tubal reversal procedure.
Tubal Reversal Surgery or IVF
I was able to meet Tonya and Donald the day before her tubal reversal surgery. After our consultation, I asked them if they would share their story for the benefit of other couples in similar situations. They agreed without hesitation.
Tonya’s reverse tubal ligation went well. Her tubal lengths were 4 and 4.5 cms after repair. Her fallopian tubes appeared to be in good shape and they rejoined nicely. The entire blood loss was 50cc (3.5 tablespoons) and the operative time was 60 minutes exactly.
Tubal Reversal In Chapel Hill
Tonya did well after her tubal reversal surgery in Chapel Hill North Carolina. The morning after surgery she rated her pain as a 2 out of a scale of 1-10 and she and Donald drove back to her hometown.
Tonya submitted a pregnancy report three months after her tubal reversal surgery. She followed our early pregnancy monitoring protocol and also had a vaginal ultrasound that demonstrated her pregnancy was in her uterus and was doing well. Her due date is estimated to be June 2010.
The staff of Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center wishes these Tubal Reversal Angels well while they await their tubal reversal miracle baby.

I’m sorry for your lost, I share a very similar story. My daughter also went home to be with the lord and I miss her dearly, funny thing about the butterflies my daughter LOVED them we had some engraved on her tombstone. It is very hard to lose a child at any age and they will never be replaced but a new life gives you some sort of hope for a happier future. What a joy to know we have such special little angels to watch over us And as Angie said may may your new miracle be a blessing to your family as Taylor was. I can only pray my story ends as well as your family’s blessing. God bless you and may he continue to comfort your family.

At this time I am 27 weeks pregnant. Our last u/s shows we are having a new baby girl. So far, so good. I have not encountered any problems to date. I feel her jump & move all day long…a feeling I truly missed! I will update again after my next doctor’s appointment.

Wow!!! This story is amazing and touching. But this also shows that
God works in mysterious ways. He blessed these doctors to give
us a second chance to give life to another child. Reminds me of a
familiar story. After my surgery I will tell everyone so it can be helpful
to other couples. Congratulations on your new to come blessing.
Thank you for sharing your story and god bless your family,
Leylani

I have had Thermachoice back in 2003 and I had a tubal ligation in 1996. I still have periods, there just moderate. With this being said…if I had the ligation reversal would I be able to get pregnant and carry to full term?
Thank you,
Tina
March 18th, 2010 at 7:17 pm
Tina – If you are having periods, then you do have a chance of becoming pregnant and carrying to full term after ligation reversal surgery. With a history of having an endometrial ablation procedure, however, the risks of miscarriage and premature delivery are higher than for women who have not had an endometrial ablation.

This story was very upsetting to my heart. I wish you the best in your hard time. But I have a question – was it worth it because I want to have the ligation reversal surgery done but I am scared ?
March 20th, 2010 at 10:59 am
I am about to get married again and my fiance whats more kids. I was just wondering does ligation reversal work and can it help us? We don’t know what to do.
March 20th, 2010 at 3:35 pm
Amy – If you want to see if ligation reversal works, watch this video!

Best of luck to you Tonya. Please keep us posted on how you are doing. Congratulations and wishing you a continued healthy pregnancy!
April 5th, 2010 at 1:06 pm
Amy- the whole process was COMPLETELY worth it! It is the best decision I ever made! You could not ask for a better doctor & staff. If I had to do it all over again…I wouldn’t change a thing. I am 31 weeks now still due to deliver by C-sec June 4th. Everything has gone well & so far she is healthy & we are patiently waiting her arrival which will not even be a year after my surgery!

I met a the perfect man who takes care of my kids like they’re his own but he wants us to have another one, I had a tubaligation 7 years ago never expecting to lose my kids father. I cant seem to come up with the money to have my reversal but I pray one day I will and have the happy ending like your family. I researched several centers and if I every do get my reversal I would love to travel to Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center to have it done. I pray for you and your family and the new baby coming.

It is still so nice to read the comments that come in. I am currently 36 weeks and everything is still going strong and wonderful! Friday May 14th will be 2 years since Taylor left us. I find it hard to juggle my emotions between the pain of our loss and the joy of our new arrival. Although, if it weren’t for Dr. Monteith and Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center there would be no joy only the pain. I will never be able to thank you guys for what you have given me!
Ms Smitty, I am so sorry for your loss as well. Have you looked into the payment options that Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center offer? It doesn’t have to be out of reach if you really want it! My husband and I took out a persnal loan to have it done and even if it would have taken me the next 30 years to pay it off…it would have been worth it!
