Tubal Ligation Reversal: Angel Nicole

We often meet angels who travel through Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center. In February of 2009, I had the good fortune to meet one such tubal reversal angel – her name is Nicole.
Nicole carries herself with the grace and presence of an angel. She has survived a difficult marriage, a divorce, an undesired tubal ligation, and the sudden, tragic death of her daughter. She now desires a new life and part of this new life involves starting with a tubal ligation reversal.
Type of Tubal Ligation
Nicole’s tubal ligation was after her last c-section. Nicole is currently 29 years-old and she had her tubes tied during an emergency C-section five years ago. She had a type of tubal ligation in the category of ligation and resection (tubes tied and cut). Her procedure was done under emergent and stressful circumstances. Nicole was not fully accepting of her tubal ligation and she now wishes she never had the procedure done. At that time, Nicole was a 24 year old mother of three children. Life was challenging under these circumstances and Nicole’s life quickly changed after her tubal ligation.
Wanting Tubes Reversed
Nicole became separated from and eventually divorced her husband. Like many other women, Nicole began to think about the possibility of tubes being reversed after her divorce. Although divorce is a common theme among our patients seeking to have their tubes untied, life had one additional card to deal to Nicole.
Nicole lost her middle child- her daughter Creigan- due to an unexpected and tragic event. One day, while walking along a rural road to visit her parents, a car veered off the road towards Nicole and her three children.
Nicole saw the car. She quickly tried to save her three children by grabbing, pulling, or pushing them out of the car’s path. Nicole was not able to help all of her children so suddenly…she was unable to save her daughter. Her daughter was struck by the car and died instantly on the side of the road.
Tubal Reversal Angels: True Essence of An Angel
A Tubal Reversal Angel has beauty and grace while in difficult circumstances. Rarely is there irony in tragedy, but the car that hit Nicole’s daughter was being driven by a mother who was reaching into the back seat to care for her own child when her car began to drift off the road.
The most amazing aspect of the tragic death of her daughter is that Nicole not only has forgiven but also has become friends with the woman who killed her Creigan.
After Tubal Reversal
After her tubal reversal, Nicole emailed me the picture of her family above with this message:
Creigan is the little blond sitting to my left. This picture was taken two months before her death at Walt Disney World. I thank God everyday for giving my family that last vacation together. The memories we made that week will never be forgotten and I will always cherish them.
Chances of Pregnancy After Tube Reversal
After her daughter’s passing, Nicole began to think more and more about the chances of getting pregnant after tubal reversal. Although wanting her tubes repaired, Nicole is not actively trying to become pregnant at this time. She feels now is a good point in her life, while she is young, to have tubal reversal surgery. This is her chance to start anew and to maintain the possibility of having more children in the future.
Tubal Reversal Surgery And Recovery
Nicole’s tubal reversal surgery was successful. Her fallopian tubes were in excellent condition. Her tubal lengths after reversal were 6 cm each. The estimated blood loss was 15 milliliters (equivalent to one tablespoon). Her operation lasted 72 minutes. Nicole recovered quickly and was discharged to the hotel to rest after the reversal procedure. She returned home the next morning and has been doing well.
After Tube Reversal
Nicole has not tried to conceive after her tube reversal. As such there have been no pregnancies to report nor any hysterosalpingrogram results to worry about.
Nicole just has the peace of mind a woman often has after knowing the burden of a “permanent” decision has been removed from her mind.

What an inspiring story. My heart goes out to you and your family. You are a very strong woman! I too, went through a tragic death of my son, a bad marriage and a very stressful divorce. I am so thankful for Dr. Berger and Dr. Monteith and their miracle hands. They have allowed us to give the love that we have to a child again. I pray that God gives us the blessings that we need.
