Tubes Tied: A Story of Untying Tubes By Mrs. Peach
Posted On: Monday, January 18th, 2010
The first month after my tubal reversal surgery was a huge period of adjustment for us.
We were trying to move to a house closer to work, which was an ordeal considering I had just had surgery a month before the move. I also hadn’t seen my menstrual flow, which was giving me the hope I had conceived right after I had my tubes reversed. I tested six times in two weeks. All my pregnancy test had negative results. It was 53 days from the date of my surgery before Aunt Flow (menstrual period) showed back up.
After Fallopian Tube Surgery:Â TTC, OPK, BBT
I refused at first to get into the rigors of what I called “Die hard trying to conceive (TTC)“. I refused to use ovulation predictor test kits (OPKs), take my basal body temperature (BBT) to chart ovulation, or anything other help with conceiving. I believed my tubal reversal pregnancy would happen on its own and quickly. Since I had always been extremely fertile before my tubes were tied, I was convinced I would be pregnant within 6 months of having my fallopian tubes untied.
It wasn’t long before I realized most of us who have their tubes untied believe the same thing- that pregnancy after tubal reversal happens quickly.
Unfortunately, this does not seem to be the case for most tubal reversal patients.
Planning Pregnancy After Untying Tubes
After the first month of having my tubes untied and with no pregnancy to report, I bought fifty OPK tests from an online company! The second month I started charting. It was time to get serious with my untied tubes! It was time to die hard TTC!
Pregnancy After Tubes Untied: Stress And Conception
About the third month after surgery, I gave up my job as a receptionist. The work environment had gone downhill, and I just felt it wasn’t the place for me any longer. The stress of job-hunting, worrying over life in general, and how we were going to make it on one income started wearing on us. I started to get more and more dejected over the lack of a positive pregnancy test. I started trying different herbal supplements to further my objective, but to no avail.
I finally decided that it was time to take a mental break from ”die hard TTC” and to focus on my family again…

It’s true that many patients expect immediate pregnancy after tubal reversal surgery. So glad this blog/testimony was posted.

I am 36 and I had my tubal ligation surgery almost 7 years ago. At first, I think I felt petty good But soon after I stated noticing many changes. I have terrible pms and i never ever had that before. I cry all the time and don’t want anyone around me. (By the way I have 5 daughters.) My husband is always asking me what’s is wrong and why am I so moody? I get the WORST cramps the first couple of days of my cycle and I have gained a lot of wieght. I thought I was going crazy until I read a lot of stories about PTS (post tubaligation syndrome) Now that I know I am not alone it feels much better but I don’t know what to do now? Please help!

I know how you feel. I am 35 and I had my tubal ligation surgery 8 years ago. Every month before and after my menstrual cycle, I have the same moody changes. I am tired of going through the moody change, so I have considered getting a tubal ligation reversal.

Hi “Scared”..
I am 38 and have one son. I had my tubal ligation in 2002; I have the same symptoms as you and so many more; which I am guessing you did not list all of them. My Gyno says I am “mental” and does not care what I have or how I feel. Kaiser is playing “hard ball” and not wanting to pay for a reversal. This evening we sent Dr. Berger a $250.00 Prepayment to have my tubal reversal; hopefully sooner than later. I understand what you are going through. Hang in there and from what I have read; Tubal Reversal is the way to stop these symptoms.. Take care.. Gina

I am 36 and I had tubal ligation surgery almost 5 years ago. My procedure is: “the tube was identified out to the fimbriated ends on each side and a loop of tube was brought up with the Babcock clamp and tied off with 2-0 plain and cut with the Metzenbaum scissors. This was done on each side. Assured of hemostasis, the anterior peritoneum was closed with 2-0 Vicryl. The fascia was closed with 0 Vicryl and the skin was re-approximated in the midline using staples. Is my tubal ligation reversible?

Lidia – Your operative report shows that you had the Pomeroy method of tubal ligation. This is certainly reversible!
