Essure Side Effects: Occasionally Pain And Regret

surgeons treating essure side effects by removal of coilsEssure is a newer method of ‘tubal ligation’.

Despite being a newer method of permanent birth control, some women seem to experience side-effects from Essure similar to older methods of tubal ligation.

Most women who have the Essure procedure will be happy and will not have any problems. Some will experience regret and sometimes even pain.

These women will often wonder if Essure removal or Essure reversal are possible and will these procedures provide relief from the side-effects.

Essure Reversal: Is It Possible?

As many as one out of five women will experience regret after a tubal sterilization procedure.

Regret after Essure has not officially been studied; however, there is little reason to think regret after Essure is any different than regret after other forms of sterilization.

Most women who regret a sterilization procedure do so because of the desire to have more children and many women who contact Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center will inquire about the possibility of pregnancy after Essure reversal.

Is Essure Reversible? Can Pregnancy Happen?

tubouterine implantation procedure is required for essure reversalPregnancy is possible after Essure reversal. Essure is reversed at our facility by a tubouterine implantation procedure.

A small incision is made above the pubic bone, the Essure coils are removed, and the remaining healthy tubes are inserted into a newly created opening which by-passes the previous Essure blockage.

This is an out-patient surgery at our facility, surgery lasts about 90 minutes, and the chances of pregnancy after Essure reversal are 30-50%.

This is comparable to, if not higher than, the alternative treatment of in-vitro fertilization, which has an average success rate of 35% for each IVF cycle.

Essure Removal For Essure Problems

These patients are frequently told they would need a hysterectomy to treat problems they are experiencing.

Essure removal is also done at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center as a one hour, out-patient surgery.

A small incision is made just above the pubic bone and the coils are removed in their entirety. The tubes are not implanted into the uterine cavity so pregnancy will not occur and birth control after surgery is not necessary.

Most patients report improvement in their symptoms after removal surgery.

Cost of Essure Reversal

Essure reversal at our center currently costs $6900. Essure removal alone is less and is around $4900.

I had the Essure procedure in 2008 and was told there were no side effects. I have cramping and sharp piercing stabbing pains when ever I have intercourse and it usually last for 3 to 4 days or until the same thing is done again or some common movements. It feels like someone is stabbing me with a knife where the coils are when ever I have intercourse. The outside of my skin where the assure procedure is also is extremely sensitive just to the touch. When I press on that area at all it is extreme pain. I would’ve never have gotten this done if someone would’ve told me this is a possibility of happening. It is also not easily helped by gynecologist because most of them do not know how to do the reversal or how to remove them. They just tell you you need to see some kind of specialist somewhere and possibly get it removed. And I have read the procedures are very costly and very limited hard to find places do them. I am not sure if insurance even covers the procedure. I never had any pains before the procedure it was obvious what the pains are due to. I had everything else in my body checked out and everything looked perfect the doctor said so it has to be them.

I got essure 09-2013 and just this week I have been feeling this burning sensation where my falloping tubes are. It almost feels like razor rash burning but nothing is showing on the outside of my body, no redness, no hair there. Do you think this could be something wrong with my essure or nickel allergy?

I had the essure procedure done in January of 2013. It’s been about a year now and and I was 25 when I had it done and never hadany kids and it’s do ok for me so far I have not had any problems with it except a little weight gain but other then just that I’m pleased with the procedure and I think that it works for me but I have heard any read about a lot of people having problems with it that has already had kids and it’s sad there going through all that pain and mess over this procedure I think that if the person already had kids they should tied their tubes and mabe they would not be going through all this pain now but when I did have my procedure done it was notexplained to me well and yes it did hurt and I had only a little pain medicine and felt most of it and when I went back I felt that for the checkup as well but so far I have not had any problems with it but thanks to everyone for sharing their storys as well and I hope the ones that are having problems will be ok :) god bless
