Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome Treatment Help: Megan’s Story
Posted On: Tuesday, March 29th, 2011
Megan was experiencing Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome (PTLS) and she was determined to do something about it.
In the previous article, PTLS Syndrome: Megan’s Experience, we shared Megan’s experience with tubal ligation and her symptoms of PTLS.
Megan gradually began to realize she was suffering from PTLS and became determined to fix her PTLS symptoms.
She educated herself about her condition, started a blog and a Facebook page to document her journey, and began to look for Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome help.
Tubal Ligation Side Effect: Anxiety
Megan gradually began to associate the problems she was experiencing after her tubal ligation with PTLS after searching for “anxiety after tubal ligation” on the internet. She had been suffering from a variety of side effects and found these same problems were also symptoms of PTLS .
She discovered she had most of the PTLS symptoms but was disappointed when she approached her ob/gyn who did not take her seriously and offered her a hysterectomy.
Megan then went to her primary care doctor who was much more supportive and offered to write Megan a letter to see if her health insurance would cover the cost of tubal reversal surgery.
PTLS Treatments And Health Insurance
Megan soon found out that her health insurance plan would not recognize PTLS as a medical condition which they covered. They regarded tubal ligation reversal as fertility treatment only and they were not going to pay for Megan’s tubal reversal.
Megan was determined to reverse her tubes and to educate others about Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome. She began blogging about her experience and she also created a Facebook page, Fit To Be Un-Tied: My Journey With Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome, for women who have been suffering with PTLS syndrome.
Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome Treatment: Tubal Reversal
Megan also began searching the internet for Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome doctors and she found Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center.
She was relieved when she saw other women on the Tubal Reversal Message Boards and on the Facebook page of CHTRC who were also suffering from PTLS.
Megan felt like Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center was the best place for her to have her tubal reversal surgery.
I found Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center in a web search and began scouring the message boards for stories on PTLS… I was so hopeful after that. I knew immediately I was going to go to CHTRC for my surgery.
She began saving her money earnestly in order to be able to afford tubal reversal surgery.
PTLS Reversal
Megan came for tubal reversal surgery to reverse her PTLS symptoms.
She had an uncomplicated tubal reversal surgery with Dr. Monteith. Megan’s PTLS reversal surgery went well. Her surgery was out-patient, lasted for 45 minutes and her tubes were in good condition. The estimated blood loss was about 4 teaspoons! Megan did well in the recovery room and she was discharged to the local hotel.
On the day after the surgery she was doing well and was discharged to home after being evaluated by one of the Tubal Reversal Nurses.
PTLS Recovery
Megan is doing well after her tubal reversal surgery. She has reported on her blog that her recovery from reversal surgery has been amazing and she has begin to notice improvement in her tubal ligation problems within the first two weeks! Four days after her reversal surgery Megan posted on the Facebook page of CHTRC:
My experience at Chapel Hill has been PRICELESS. It has only been 4 days post Op for me, and I can already feel the difference.
Readers who want to travel with Megan on her journey as well as ask her questions about her experience should join her on her blog Fittobeuntied .
Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome Doctors
Women who are having side effects after their tubal ligation and are seeking Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome doctors should first see their primary care physicians for evaluation.
These doctors should evaluate you for other medical and gynecologic causes of menstrual problems which can mimic PTLS. If all test and evaluations are inconclusive and your problems started soon after tubal ligation then you should consider giving the tubal reversal doctors of Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center a call.
Their nursing staff are available to provide a free phone consultation during normal business hours (919) 968-4656.

Sharee, lots of women believe you. It’s just most doctors don’t. I had my reversal and all of my PTLS symptoms went away. There are other web sites and blogs too that know ptls is real.

I’m so relieved!!!! I’m not alone. I’m 31 had my tubal ligation done 5.5 yrs ago after my 3rd child was born. I started having problems right away. First I became very week ( fatigue ) so many tests were done MRI to check for strokes and and, all came back normal….then saw neurologists they couldn’t find anything wrong. Came down to it my family Dr. said “It was all in my head.”I left his office and never returned. Someone I worked with told me to check out this Dr. Her son was seeing. This Dr. was into research so I thaught I’d give it a try( been seeing him now for 4.5 yrs) he did alot of blood tests, checked for immune dif. Rheumatoid arthritis. And other ones I can’t remember. All those came back normal. So for all the joint pain weekness he put me in physical theropy.Pain was still there! I was already on an anti- depresent do to my husband at the time admitting to afairs and divorsing him in June 2007. Anyways my Dr. Thaught maybe my pain I was having was due to depression and switched my meds to Cymbalta. Was on that for awhile and that wasn’t helping. That Cymbalta was the worst thing that ever happened in my whole life wore then the PTLS. When my Dr. Slowly took me off it the worse things happened! Alot of Dr. I think they know the side affects while being on the meds…not knowing the whithdal symptoms. Can anyone say BRAIN SHIVERS that was scary. Lots of bladder problems ( you can go to FDA cymbalta withdrawal symptoms. There are alot!) So after my symptoms from the cymbalta subsided.he put me on a different anti- depressant welbutren currently taking. You would think after being HAPPILY married to the man of my dreams April 2009. That I wouldn’t feel depressed…that fog feeling. About 8 months ago my Dr. ran more blood tests to find out that my B-12 levels were extremely low (normal 800-900) mine was 236. I thaught I finally got my answers.Been taking my. supplements and still feel the same.(have done some. research and pregnancy can cause B-12 dif.) I’m now starting to think pregnancy hormones and hormones. being affected by tuble….kinda makes since! A few weeks ago I had to have a pap….Every month when I ovulate I get very bloated and EXTREME stabbing pain. They’ve always told me ovarian cyst. Ladies I posting this because I truly believe with all heart thus has to be PTLS. I NEVER went to the DR. this much and had so many problems until after my last pregnancy / tubal. My husband and I were looking into tubal reversals to have a baby together and came across thus sight.Over the last few days I’ve read alot of testimonies and am on the journey to have the surgery.I hope and pray after Dr. reads my medical report that I’ll be a candidate for the surgery. I told my husband the other day…if we don’t get pregnant at least I’d feel a whole lit better and he’d get to meet the real me and not sick all the time and that would be worth it
my kids would have their mom back too!

Wow! Every symptom of PTLS explains all the different ailments I’ve lived with for the past 4 years! I’ve gone to different docs and had so many tests/scans done to discover the cause of all of this, to no avail. =( I’m so glad I found this site and Megans’ story! I’m going to look into reversing my tubal ligation asap!
Thanks again for sharing your story,
Amber
