Hi Lisa, You have a truly touching story!! I wish you the best with Dr. Berger and your TR. I had the same intuition when it came to choosing CHTRC. Within 3 months without trying we conceived TR Baby #1 and he is now a healthy and happy 3 month old. My life will never be the same. I can't say that I know your pain and your lost because I haven't dealt with something so traumatic with my children. God will bless you with more children, Dr. Berger is an EXTREMELY GIFTED surgeon and I believe with the core of my soul that he was put on this Earth to give life, give back the heart and soul to women who wouldn't be able to conceive otherwise. I thank God everyday for my baby and Dr. Berger. I let everyone know at church too that he wouldn't be here without God and the talented hands of Dr. Berger and his staff. I couldn't imagine life without him, so yes, my heart aches for your situation. You are in my prayers! I believe that Jayden will be just as excited as your eldest when the new baby comes here! I have said it before, you are a very strong and special person. I can only say that I am proud to be your mom and grandma to two special grandchildren ……Ian, who because of your love and Harry’s love will never forget his little brother, and Jayden, who will be forever innocent.

There are no words to thank Dr. Berger and the staff at Chapel Hill. I have never met such loving, caring people in my life. You all breathed life back into my daughter and for that I will be forever grateful.

Lisa R.- You are an amazing and true inspiration. I cannot imagine the unbelievable and unthinkable loss of a child. I mourn for you as a parent. However, after reading your blog I was also excited for you b/c you found peace just like many women do after years of suffering from PTLS just from landing on the CHTRC website. Almost like a gift from God, it came upon me, as well! Women, Friends, Family, Dr.'s, and other medical professionals may truly never know the burden physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually that PTLS claims on the lives of women after a TL. My failed Essure is giving us a new baby this year and now I am faced with having to be re-sterilized. I would like to just have both of my fallopian tubes removed and not have a tubal ligation at the other end of the tube where the Essure is not located. Can this be done at any OB office, or would it be better to have it done somewhere like your office where you specialize in the removal of the Essure micro inserts? I am not willing to continue with the pain and discomfort that has come with this procedure (that also was not disclosed to me when it was done)or the possibility of conception again in the future. I am able to send my records for review if desired. Thank you. Carlene

PREGNANT!!! I can’t believe all the stuff I am finding out now. My wife was “fixed” in February 2008 In February 2009 we went in for the test to see for 100% blockage. Guess what = 2 doctors said “yep 100% blocked”. She conceived on March 6th with a healthy baby girl due on Thanksgiving day. We have 3 boys and we were done, now we have a girl whom we will love (I already do) very much (Heather). But this is very unexpected. Our doctor assured us this was the best out there, Essure tubal, BS 99.99% successful. Imm not so sure now. So, to answer all the questions above in a nut shell:
1 yes it can be reversed
2 yes you can get pregnant
3 yes you can get pregnant even with it in
4 yes it can be healthy
5 my wife has had terrible cramps ever since installed
6 yes she lost her sex drive at 30
7 still has the occasional bleed
8 yes her boobs hurt all the time.
9 my opinion… look for another method
10 I WANT A REFUND!

I am 29 years old. 5 years ago I had an eptopic pregnancy which my right fallopian tube had to be removed and shortly after, I had another surgery to have the left fallopian tube “burnt shut” because it was damaged. I am not getting any younger and although my husband and I have 2 wonderful kids, we really want more. 1 or 2 more. Is there any possible way to ever get pregnant again? I dont think there is any hope. This has been upsetting ever since the eptopic pregnancy I had.

I am so happy to hear Dorinda’s story and I wish her luck. I also had My TR and was left with 4.0 cm and 5.0 cm tubes.At first I was sad. I thought that wasn’t enough tube considering that the normal tubes are at least 10 cm but I am leaving it to God. Hopefully I will be pregnant soon. I am scheduled to have Essure done next week and was concerned about side effects. Besides cramping does anyone have any other things to share. I am 100% positive I will never want another child. Even if I later met someone who wants children we would have to end things. I am trying to put my daughter through college and could not imagine what that would be like in another 18 years. I’m 33 years old and have three children. They were easy healthy pregnancies, labors (all 3 induced), and deliveries. I’ve had my tubes tied for almost 8 years. My new husband has two children and he had a vasectomy 5 years ago. We have children that belong to each of us, but we want to have a child between us (kinda like a your, mine, and ours thing). What are the chances of getting pregnant if we both get untied?

We had a visit today from a former patient who had her TR in 1998. After 5 miscarriages/ectopics, she went on to have 3 TR babies! They are now 11, 7, and 5. She talked at length about maintaining hope after tubal reversals since fertility is restored and pregnancy may happen at any time!

I had my tubes burnt when I was 22 years because of the hectic life I lived. Now I am 28 years old and ready to settle down and have a family. I had been searching online to see if they could fix it so that i could carry a baby. My only problem is that I can’t find anything and with the new technology they have out to day you think they would. I just don’t believe in having a another woman carrying my child. I will adopt if this doesn’t work, but I also would enjoy motherhood of my own.

I’m 27. I’ve had my tubes tied for 6 and half years and had cramps and blood clots really bad to where I cry every month when I get my period. I know exactly how you all feel. MILLIE – The first thing to do is run a home pregnancy test. Then, you should see the doctor who found your fibroid tumor and discuss the possibility of removing it. If that does not improve your symptoms, you could have a tubal reversal.

I had my tubes tied in August of 2004. I did not want them tied. The doctor asked me during labor did I want them tied. I said yes, not being able to think about anything but pain. I have very painful periods, bad headaches, bad bloating, and a severe amount of pain. I recently went to the doctor that discovered I have a fibroid tumor. I have a boyfriend with one kid. I don’t know how my tubes were tied or clamped or what. So now I have not had a period in 38 days and I am wondering what is going on.

JARED – Your description of the HSG makes it seem likely that the left tube is blocked at the anastomosis site, but that can best be determined by having the x-rays sent here for examination and comparison with your wife’s operative report. And the answer is, yes, you can have a baby with only 1 tube.

Hi,
Yesterday 6/25 my wife had an HSG as a follow-up to the tubal reversal she had in March. The right tube showed spillage, but the left tube showed that the dye stopped in the middle of the tube? Does this mean the left tube is blocked or closed, and if, so can we have a baby with only 1 tube? Thanks!

Hi, I’m 27 yrs old, and at the age of 22 I gave birth to my second child, by c section in 2004. My tubes were tied and burned. I’m also type 1 diabetic, but have gotten remarried. He’s a good man, and wants a child. The dr said my pelvis bones were too small to have one naturally, but that I could have up to three c sections. I’m on a diabetic insulin pump. Would I be suitable for one more baby?

CJ- did you get pregnant? hope not. I was reading your case and is similar what is happening to me now. My Essure was done 4/2008. I had heavy periods for the rest of the year and part of 2009. Then suddenly, shorter/lighter periods, only spotting in my last “period” and that was May 5th. Some nausea some mornings. Anyone has something to say? I feel so horrible, don’t mind if another child (4th) comes down the road, but right now is outrageous. Oh my God, I’m so scared to even test.

I just turned 41 and had my tubes tied for about 11 years. I don’t know what procedure was done. I have had 4 pregnancies; the 1st was a miscarriage. The 2nd I had to take progesterone. I desperately want to have the tubal reversal surgery I am soon to be married for the second time, and my fiancee wants us to have children. I am thirty-eight and want to get it done as soon as possible, my only problem is saving up all the money I have recently purchased a beautiful home and my son is starting high school one of the best private schools in New York state which has depleted the majority of my savings. My question is, I have seen ads for grants that will help pay for tubal reversals. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this ad? I have responded to the ad but have not heard back from them yet.

LUCY – Pregnancy is possible after an Essure procedure. Most women have an HSG several months after the Essure device is implanted to ensure that both tubes are blocked. If you suspect that you may be pregnant, run a pregnancy test and if positive report it right away to your doctor. It is possible to get pregnant after the procedure and have a baby.

I am 35 years old I got the Essure done October 2007. I have been getting little cramps that come and go. My breasts have been hurting for about 2 1/2 weeks all ready. Dr said my both tubes damaged and right ovary has a tubo-ovarian cyst. I am 33 years old. Right ovary contains an endometrioma =23×56mm suggestive of a tuboovarian cyst. Dr said before going for ivf have to remove tubes. I had ivf last year but it was unsuccessful. Please help me. What can I do to become pregnant?

ASHLEY – Have you had a tubal reversal procedure done? If so, and you have become pregnant and miscarried, it does not need to be redone. If you are referring only to having had a tubal ligation and then became pregnant, you should have it redone despite what the HSG showed. In order to have conceived, then at least one of your tubes is open. Having a pelvic kidney does not diminish your chances of becoming pregnant, but can present complications during a pregnancy.

I’ve had dye put in my tubes an the dr said they were blocked but 1yr after I became pregnant an had a miscarriage. Is it possible that I need to get this procedure done again or is it something else and I also have a pelvic kidney could that decrease my chances of pregnancy?

I am so pleased to know that this procedure can be reversed. I have had the essure since May 2008 and feel that I may want to have children again. Since I have had essure, I have had spotting in between my periods and cramping, which I did not have prior to having the essure done. Once again, I am glad to know that essure can be reversed.

I had to have a good cry after reading about Tracy’s journey. I have been going through the same symptoms, but for the past 13 years, instead of 3 years.It has been awful. I especially feel like I have been the same Momzilla at times with my two children. I want to have this surgery so bad now, especially after reading these stories. Preferably yesterday.

I wish I would have found out about this sooner. I only recently learned how a TL can affect your menstrual cycle. Since I have had my TL(1996) I have had very regular periods, like clockwork. BUT, they are so very painful and there are so many clots, most often it scares me. But I just put up with it for the last 13 years. I am about to embark on the journey of having my Tubal Ligation reversed. It is mainly because I would like to have another baby in the near future, but I hope and pray that after the surgery the cramps, pain, anxiety, etc. will go away and no longer affect my life they way it has. I’m one of those people who made the decision under someone else’s influence and really regret having had TL. If I had another choice I would tell him to get a vasectomy instead of me getting any type of surgery.The article above were very helpful and its good to know now that I’m not alone. Good luck for everyone out there that is having their surgery reversed.

I had a hsg on day 11 of my cycle which was on June 11th and I am experiencing sharp but bearable pains in my lower abdomen. Could this be from an infection from the hsg? No fever though.

I just came across Cyndi and Steve’s story while researching options for conceiving after have my tubes tied and burnt. We also reside in the state of Arkansas and, for our own reasons, do not wish to marry. We each have children with our respective ex’s, four total, each of whom are anxious to expand our family as well.I was very young (22) when I had my tubes tied and burnt following the birth of my daughter, my third child in as many years. I am almost 34 now, and regret the decision deeply. At the time it seemed like the thing to do as three different forms of birth control had failed and my insurance at the time would only cover the procedure if it was a complete sterilization(burning). We dearly love the four children we have, and are in a very different place in our lives than I was at 22. I can’t imagine a family that could provide a child more love than we would. I admit that for me as a woman, just the experience of bringing a child into this world with somebody who wants and loves him or her as much as I do would be an emotional one for me. I thought I was crazy to have the feelings I am having. I REGRET having my tubes tied. At the time, I didn’t want any more children from my then husband (I was only 24). Now, 28, I am remarried and my husband wants another child and so do I. I WILL contact the Chapel Hill crew for a TR. I am so excited that we will be able to try for a child together (maybe two!).

I had an hsg done on 29thMay. After 3 days from hsmy g I started spotting for 2 days then bled for 3 day like a period, then it stopped. Is it a period that came early?

I had a tubal ligation in 2007 after the birth of my second daughter. I wanted to be done with having children because I had my boy and girl. I am very happy with our family of 4 howerver, every month I have periods whenever my body feels like having one. Sometimes two weeks late sometimes 1 week early. I have painful periods and I am extremly craky and depressed during the week. I want to sleep all the time but I can't get comfortable. I have low back pain and no sex drive. When we do have sex it is painful. I am also cold all the time my feet and hands especially. Could this be PTLS or am I just unlucky? Also is it hard to get insurance companies to cover tubal ligation reversal.

I have had four children one in 1999 one in 2000 one in 2002 and the last in 2005 I got my tubal ligation done six weeks after my fourth child was born. It has been nothing but awful starting six weeks after I healed from the surgery. My periods are crazy. I have to use two boxes of the ultra tampons a month. I have no energy. I’m aggravated most of the month. My mood swings are terrible. I’m very nervous. It’s hard to do anything when I’m on my period its so heavy. I have a hard time shopping and standing for long periods of time without messing up my clothes. I have lots of clots.I have a line that has appeared above my lip that looks like a mustache but there is no hair, it’s just a dark pigment.

I am 31 yrs old and it’s nice to see and read these ladies’ stories. My husband and I have 3 kids but none biologically together. We have looked and looked into tubal reversals but can’t afford to do it. It really hurts due to me being young , dumb, and doing this to my self 10 years ago at the tender age of 21. We desperately want to add to our family and have another baby.Congrats and I wish you all the best of luck!!!

I’m going to be 41 years old and I would like to know if I would be able to get one of my tubes untied. 17 years ago I had a tubel pregnancy and one of my ovaries got removed and I was told that I wouldn’t have any more kids. I thought that I was alone in this terrible thing! I found this website and I am so glad to know that I am not alone. I had a TL in september of 08 after my 3rd c-section.(I am 26) I had tough pregnancies and lost my first baby after 16hrs his life so when #3 came around and my c-section was awful I chose to have it done. I now have gained 12 pounds have hot flashes I actually do not have any periods but the pain I feel is soo bad that I have actually been brought to tears. My memory is horrible and I am moody and depressed. I don’t know what to do because I don’t even know how much anything like this costs to reverse and as much as I would like to have another child it makes me nervous because I do have a chance of birth defects and my uteris was thin. I hate feeling like this though and I really need it to stop!!

MARLENE – If both ends of the tubes were burned (next to the uterus and at the fimbrial end of the tube), it is unlikely that this is a surgically correctable situation, but it would be best to send a copy of your operative report to us to be reviewed.
