Symptoms of Essure Bloating and Weight Gain Gone !
Dr. Monteith
I just want to say thank you for the letter that you wrote to the FDA to remove Essure from the market.
I took one photo the week that I went to see you and the other photo four weeks after my surgery. The photos really show how much bloating I had after my Essure procedure.
Also since my Essure reversal surgery I haven’t had a migraine and many of my symptoms went away. Looks like I lost more than 10 pounds!! The top right photo is from today!!
Once again thank you!

Essure Symptoms: Can removing Essure help?
Based on initial studies submitted to the FDA approximately 9% of women will have adverse symptoms that can persist for 12 months or more after their Essure procedure. The majority of these symptoms are related to pelvic and back pain. Many of these women may be having a ‘foreign body’ reaction to the metallic inserts after being placed in the fallopian tubes. Some women will report symptoms of Essure bloating and weight gain.
We do see patients who report skin rashes, joint pains, hair loss, weight gain, and bloating after having Essure devices inserted. We encourage our patients to be seen by their local physicians and to be evaluated for these symptoms. If no other cause can be discovered and their symptoms began within weeks to months of having Essure inserted then Essure removal may help.
We specialize in reversing Essure to allow patients to become pregnant. Since we have performed an extensive number of Essure reversal surgeries we have also become skilled in removal these Essure devices intact.
We also perform a significant number of Essure removal surgeries for women who wish to avoid having a hysterectomy. Many of our patients will travel to have surgery at our center to avoid the risks of hysterectomy surgery.
In 2014 we improved upon our Essure extraction techniques and are now able to remove the coils en bloc. Our en blog dissection allows us a greater chance to remove the devices intact with the surrounding tubal muscularis and inflammatory (scar) tissue. Since we have modified our technique for Essure extraction we have been able to remove devices with a much lower risk of device fracture.

If you are having Essure bloating and weight gain then see your doctor for evaluation. If no other causes can be identified then consider Essure device removal.
