How to recognize the best doctor
Choosing the best doctor is the most important decision to make when having tubal reversal surgery. According to members of the Tubal Reversal Message Board, these factors will help you make the best choice: the doctor's credentials and experience; the number of tubal reversal surgeries that he performs on an ongoing basis; testimonials from previous patients about their experiences with the doctor and his staff; responsiveness of his staff to questions before surgery; follow-up after surgery and during early pregnancy; availability of detailed information about all aspects of the care provided; statistics about pregnancy rates and pregnancy outcomes; and cost. As on the Message Board, the order of the messages is from newest to oldest reading down from the top of the page.

| DayBreen Member # 7613 | That's what my Fertility doc here in Dallas said too, Tonja! The total price was going to be around $15,000 with a 4-6 hour surgery (laproscopic) and 4-6 weeks for healing he said. Not with Dr. B available...haha, no thanks!!! | |
| Tonja Member # 4096 | I live in California, and had a consult with a DR here for TR. We were ready in 2002 except for the $20,000. I was working hard and we only could muster up about $6,000. I get on the net and research all the time. I happened across Dr. Berger's web site and called, got all my information together, and scheduled for the surgery within a month I think. I never saw the video until after, and I never knew much about Dr. Berger until after my TR. Although I felt very comfortable and based on previous info from California consult and the info on Dr. Berger's Web site, I was able to compare and choose. My biggest was the length of surgery time and time to recoup. The California DR said 4 to 6 hour surgery AUGHHHHHH!!!!! Tonja | |
| LaurieN Member # 7290 | The video, his statistics, this website, the amazing devotion of his staff, and the price - not necessarily in that order! I had been investigating TR since the day after my TL in 2002. I found Dr. B that day. The clincher for us was probably the video. See, my DF and I both work in the operating room. I'm a nurse, he's a scrub tech, so we watched the video as medical professionals as well as potential patients. We were both thoroughly impressed with his surgical skill and appreciated his explanations for why he was doing things the way he was (minimizing tissue trauma to decrease postop pain, etc). The website is amazing. Nobody else out there has a forum for their patients to be in contact the way Dr. B does. How's that for confidence in your procedure? He encourages our interaction. Not only that, through this forum he and his staff (do you guys EVER take a day off??) are available to us 24/7. As I've said before, I hope that Dr. B has a protege, because the world needs someone to carry on his legacy should he (GOD FORBID) decide to retire someday. I have worked for and with A LOT of doctors over the years and have only met ONE other who has the level of commitment to his patients that Dr. Berger and his staff have. Dr. B, if you ever decide to open a West Coast branch you have a nurse and scrub tech ready, willing and able to come to work for you! Laurie TL 6/7/02 TR 1/25/05 R 5.0 L 5.25 TTC cycle #2 | |
