In my operative report from a laparoscopy I had back in 2005, the dr put that I had a monopolar tubal ligation. Does anyone know what that means and the percent of getting pregnant afterwards? The report stated that the Dr. who did my TL took 3-4cm of tube off of each side! What are the chance of me getting pregnant again after I have TR?? I am going to be getting my TR in July w/ Dr. Monteith. We are stationed out at Fort Campbell, KY. Looking forward to having this done so when hubby gets home from Iraq we can baby dance all day long! Thanks,

Dear Cate,
Welcome to the board. I am glad to hear that you are planning to have surgery with Dr. Monteith. If you could fax a copy of your operative report from the laparoscopy that you had in 2005 it would be helpful to determine if Monopolar cautery was used. Did your Tl report say monopolar or was it the physician who did the laparoscopy say it was monopolar. ? The good news is that the tubes are repaireable in 98% of the cases and we would anticipate that with 3cm removed, that there would be adequate lengths of tube remaining after surgery. Please feel free to fax me your operative report to 919-967-8637. You can put it to my attention and please include your contact information so that I can reach you when it arrives. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or if I can assist you with anything. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello Cate, 3 - 4 cm of each tube is well with in the normal. Fallopian tubes generally measure 8 to 10 cm (4 to 6 inches) and as Nurse Rhonda says the tubes are repairable in 98% of cases. Many patients have had successful pregnancies with short and sometimes only one tube.
Here are some Message Board discussions about fallopian tube length.
