| charlene l Member # 5935 | I also have nearly all of the symptoms of PTLS, and of course I had never heard of it before I started researching my symptoms/problems after the TL. I am specifically looking to right the wrong that was done to my body but I am on the fence right now about whether I should even HOPE to feel like myself again. I wish that there were some real statistics that show what the percentage of women with PTLS actually improve due to a reversal and how long those benefits last (some women have still gone on to have a hysterectomy a few years after the reversal, in spite of much relief of their symptoms temporarily.) Can a doc or nurse explain why a reversal should alleviate some/most of the PTLS symptoms? I am looking for a medical explanation, to soothe some of my concerns and doubts as well as to defend my position that other women have been helped by TR so why can't I? I have read a number of theories, from restoring blood supply to the fallopian tubes being partly responsible for hormone regulation.. If there are TR docs willing to acknowledge this problem then why won't the TL docs? At least to be on the safe side and inform their patients of POSSIBLE side effects? I hate to think that the only women that benefit from a TR are the ones who have physical manifestations of regret over losing their fertility or disobeying god. I am not one of those women, but my body and mind have suffered nonetheless. Even if TR is a long shot for relief, as long as there is nothing else wrong with me that could possibly cause these symptoms to appear out of the blue just after that surgery, then I will have to take that chance and save up or apply for financing for a TR. I am glad to hear that many women do feel significantly better (some say 90-100%!) after TR, I just hope to be one of those lucky ones. I will worry that my doc did too much damage to fix until someone actually goes in there and sees what happened to me. Does having a laparscopy and removing excess scar tissue (if that is suspected of causing pain) hinder a later tubal reversal? Is it better to do all of that at the same time (TR and removed scar tissue) to avoid 2 surgeries at that site? |
| Lisaklawrence Member # 6370 | Just curious to know how many women out there are my age and considering having a tr. I'm soon to be 41 and had a tl almost 17 years ago. I too had my tl due to a bad marriage and my then husband didn't want to have anymore (we had two sons) he then went on to have 2 more children with two other women, while I longed to be able to have more. I've always felt as if I have at least one more child out there somewhere and am considering doing this. You can imagine my surprise when I started to research this and found out that it costs considerably less than I had anticipated. My concern of course is my age, I do know that I had the Pomeroy method done, but I don't know if length of time between the tl and tr is a factor. Does anyone know? Also I have looked at the percentages posted of pregnancies in women my age and they don't look very positive. I'm amazed at all the symptoms I've had over the years that correlate with all these other women and Tl's... unbelievable, I'm actually menstruating right now and miserable, headaches, breast tenderness that is unbearable at times. This has if nothing else, been an eye opener. Thanks to all of you for sharing your stories. Lisa |
| Dr. Hertz Member # 594 | Patients come to us for a variety of reasons. Some to have another child, some just to feel whole again, and some to treat the symptoms of Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome. We are pleased to help any patient we are able to! Caryn M. Hertz, MD Director of Anesthesia Chapel Hill Surgical Center |
| weasel520 Member # 2548 | Ladies I know exactly what you are talking about. I had my tl when I was 26 because I was fertile myrtle and did not want another child by my abusive ex. The OB said for him to get fixed and he informed me then that he wouldn't do it because some day when we weren't together he may want to have another child. I told the OB to just do it because I did not want another accident with that scum. I love my son but I was not ready for another child. (He was #3) After my tl I had a headache that would not go away. I also was bleeding and clotting very heavy. I have migraines with my period every month. I went through hot flashes, put on birth control pills, mood swings so bad that I didn't even want my children around and they are my life, situational depression, and weight gain. My regular physician tried to figure out a way for me to get a reversal where the insurance company would pay for it but it didn't work. I have stopped the birth control pills over the past 4 years since I met my dh but the periods aren't any better. The main reason I want the tr is so that dh and I can share in a child together because he doesn't have one but the other reason is also because of all other health issues I've had since. I know dh would be happy if it would get rid of my pms! I never had pms before. Anyway, not to be so winded just wanted to say that I know how you feel. I'm having my tr finally on July 23 and I can't wait! Best of luck to all of the ladies who are thinking about it and baby dust to those of you that have already had yours. Chris |
| Tlm Member # 3558 | Luckily, I had a loving OB-GYN. He begged me not to have the TL done in the first place. I was 23 years old. When I was going into the Operating room, he asked me again if I were sure I wanted it done. Yes, I said, I don't want anymore children! I personally think, there should be a rule--Let the woman wait a few months before having the surgery. Maybe 6 months after the baby is born. That way, it's not a bad choice. I think less Tubal Ligation's would be done. |
| Dianna Layne Member # 4313 | Hi yates4, Welcome to the board, you need to check with your insurance company's customer service and ask them if they cover this procedure, some insurance do cover this, the procedure code is 58750, if they say that they do, ask them to send you something in writing stating so. |
| yates4 Member # 6342 | I am 29 y/o had a tl about 5 years ago and I have everyone of these symptoms that each and everyone of you have discussed headaches, clots, heavy bleeding, pinching on sides, ETC. My gyn put me on antidepressants and aleve for the pain and of course never mentioned any of this as a side affect. I never put these two together until I found this site. |
| StacyC Member # 5044 | I completely agree with you! I have had problems ever since my TL 2 years ago. The problem is though that most doctors won't even recognize this as a problem. Just think how many TR they could prevent if they had informed us that there would be a chance of this. I was told no side affects. |
| Brenda and Dan Member # 5115 | You would think with all the side effects from a tubal ligation that dr's would explain this and insurance's would consider a TR and pay for it, I was 23 when I had my TL and regret it, I plan on having the TR surgery this summer I'm 39 and want a baby more then anything. |
| undecided Member # 884 | hey wend, my husband said I should get the tl since I was already in the hosp having a child too. now just like you I regret it sooooooooooo bad, I was in tears too when they took me to surgery. I have awful mood swings now and other bad symptoms as well, I sure hope the reversal will help all of our awful symptoms. |
| wend Member # 5191 | Hi everybody! I'm thinking of having the TR done because of post TL problems, including tender, swollen breasts ten to fourteen days before my period, intermittent heavy bleeding, headaches, and so on. My dr. is in total denial that these symptoms are in any way related to the TL, but I am convinced and become more confident every time I read more on it that it's why I'm miserable. I can barely stand to have a shirt touching my breasts on the worst days. If I can have a TR and feel even a fraction better, it will be well worth it. |
| kellys Member # 5185 | I thought I was the only person in the world that had gone nuts! I had my TL 10 1/2 years ago and have not had the bleeding and cramping some of you have described but I had never had a migraine before my TL and even though I desperately want another baby if that doesn't happen and I just go back to my pre TL self (hopefully migraine free)The TR will be the best thing I could ever do for myself and my family. |
