We have compiled a list of favorite places and activities for our patients. The venues on this list have been specially selected by Dr. Monteith and staff for our patients. These are places where we consistently return for great dinning and entertainment experiences. Places listed within North Hills Mall are all within walking distance of either hotel. You can’t go wrong with any of these recommended hot spots!

North Hills Mall Midtown Raleigh
From the world renowned Kobe burgers to the finest grade sushi and sashimi- there’s something for everyone.
Experience the sophisticated metropolitan atmosphere where eastern and western cultures merge.
The Cowfish brings to the world the first restaurant focusing on offering both the best sushi and the best burger in town. Fresh, innovative and delicious, fusion of American and Asian food. Sounds strange but delightful…menus is a combination of hamburgers and great sushi. Great salads and appetizers. The portions are HUGE!
Their aquarium was created by the makers of the show “Tanked” which airs on the Animal Planet.
A restaurant that offers one of the largest selections of draft beers, a diverse menu of American fare, and play a heady selection of classic rock music and upscale restaurant all in one. Wonderful selection of classic American dishes and salads. Outdoor dining next to fire pits available.
Piola’s cuisine is rigorously Italian: Simple and healthy. Piola’s pizza is thin-crust and well cooked, but above all, Piola’s pizza menu is very creative: the classic Italian pizzas are flanked by many other creations, all delicious and original.
Ruth’s Chris Steak House
Great steaks served in a classic steak house environment.
Founded in Austin, Texas in 1982, Chuy’s has made from scratch Tex-Mex inspired dishes. Chuy’s highly flavorful and freshly prepared fare is served in a fun, eclectic atmosphere, while each location offers a unique look and feel, as expressed by the concept’s motto “If you’ve seen one Chuy’s, you’ve seen one Chuy’s!”. Excellent selection of margaritas and a great all you can eat, self serve salsa bar!
Bone Fish Grill Raleigh
Great selection of seafood served in a warm and casual environment.
Bruegger’s Cafe and Espresso Bar
Unlike other Bruegger’s locations, the North Hills Bruegger’s features an expanded menu, extended evening hours, WiFi in both the indoor and outdoor dining area, specialty coffee and dessert selections.
In addition to the items available in all Bruegger’s restaurants, the North Hills location offers freshly baked breads for sandwiches, made-to-order salads with a selection of home-made dressings, and additional soup choices that include vegetarian options.
The name speaks for itself. There are two Starbucks within North Hills Mall.
We recommend going to a movie, picking up desert at the one adjacent to Ben and Jerry’s Ice cream, and sitting outside to watch the children play on the turf area or listen to one of the many spring outdoor concerts organized by North Hills Mall!
Ben & Jerry’s North Hills
When you step into a Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop, your experience is more than just tasting the best ice cream products around.
Their shops are a ten-minute vacation, a bit of self-indulgence, a joy for the belly and soul.
The Greater Raleigh Area
Sullivan’s Steak House*
Classic steak house serving the best flame grilled steaks in the warmest dining atmosphere. This is where those who live in Raleigh and are ‘in the know’ go for their steaks and socializing.
Highly recommend their signature pineapple vodka martini* and you cant go wrong with the Dr. Monteith special: cowboy rib eye steak* served with a side of creamy white cheddar potatoes au gratin*** and creamed spinach! You wont have room for dessert.
A three level ultra-cool night club/eating establishment. Dine at the restaurant on the ground floor underneath a glass ceiling which also serves as the dance floor for the night club on the second floor. The third floor offers a roof top bar with ample seating and by reservation private booths. Outdoor heaters are plentiful during the colder months.
A great selection of beer and pizza. A small chain that is highly popular with many locals. Lots of outdoor seating available.
The outside of Mami Nora’s is a little hard on the eyes …but the inside is warm and inviting and often crowded by Raleighites who know the best place for good eating: roasted Peruvian chicken!
Excellent casual dining restaurant providing classic Peruvian food. Excellent wood fire roasted chicken, black beans, rice , and plantains.
The Dr. Monteith Special: Lomo Saltado is a must; delightful strips of steak sautéed with onions and tomatoes in gravy and served over a bed of fried potatoes. Ask for a side of maduro plantains!**
Lilly’s Pizza Raleigh*
Liily’s has consistently been voted the best pizza in the city of Raleigh every year. Great pizza and microbrews in a small cozy environment.
Melting Pot Raleigh
A romantic, fine dining fondue restaurant with a diverse fondue menu. Excellent place for couples and a fun dinning activity for little ones. Reservations recommended.
Bahama Breeze Raleigh*
This has long been a Raleigh favorite. Casual Caribbean cuisine served in a colorful and relaxing environment. If you go here for dinner on a Friday or a Saturday expect a wait for a table.
Great burgers and casual eating. Consider this place a step up from Five Guys. 3004 Wake Forest Rd #100
Great handmade sub sandwiches. You can’t go wrong with the

Always a favorite grocery store and eatery: innovative, hard to find, great tasting food. Excellent food and wine selection. 3000 Wake Forest Road
Excellent burritos made to order with wholesome and all natural ingredients. The best sweet tea in Raleigh*.
A longstanding traditional Raleigh favorite well known locally owned and operated known for their prime rib and Sunday brunch. Excellent food. Casual and comfortable environment. A longstanding favorite of locals.
Fleming’s Steak House
Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse discover an exceptional menu inspired by a passion for steak and wine, served with exemplary hospitality.
You can’t visit Raleigh and say you did not go to Angus Barn. A long time favorite of many Raleigh businessmen and visitors.
Great hearty steaks served in a barn like atmosphere. Make sure you have a few drinks in the famous Wild Turkey Lounge and take advantage of the free crackers, soft cheese, pickles and olives while you wait for your table. This place is always crowded every day of the week. Reservations highly recommended. If you don’t make reservations you can always catch a seat in the Wild Turkey Lounge….but put your game face on!
Lynnwood Grill* A very happening bar and grill frequented by many locals. Great appetizers, drinks, food and roof top dining available. A movie theater is within walking distance.
Two notable things about Lynnwood Grill is they operate their own brewery and the establishment is owned by the husband of one of our best Tubal Reversal Nurses. Very popular with bar and grill with a loyal clientele.
Waraji Japanese Restaurant*
A great Japanese restaurant serving good Japanese food and sushi.
This place has been consistently voted one of the best places for Sushi in the Triangle area.
The Pit Authentic Barbecue*
North Carolina is known for its legendary barbecue joints. The Pit proudly continue this tradition by serving authentic whole-hog, pit-cooked barbecue in downtown Raleigh’s warehouse district.
Going far beyond traditional barbecue offerings with some contemporary twists on Southern favorites, The Pit also serves Texas-style brisket, baby back ribs, barbecue turkey, fried chicken, and a can’t-miss barbecue tofu dish. Everything but the squeal!
Second Empire Restaurant and Tavern*
Located in the beautifully restored Dodd-Hinsdale House in downtown Raleigh, Second Empire satisfies the highest of standards. Their delectable menu and polished service have won them the AAA Four Diamond Award, the DiRoNa Award and the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. A truly unique dining experience.
Upstairs features sophisticated dining and downstairs the Tavern* and Atrium Room provide a more casual feel and lighter fare menu without sacrificing excellence. Second Empire is an experience unlike any other.

Pooles Downtown Dinner*
The philosophy of the kitchen and bar at Poole’s diner is simple to digest…creative, simple offerings carefully executed.
Their menus are inspired by the season and its many offerings. As the season changes, at some points on a daily basis, so do their chalkboard menus. They work with local growers and artisan producers whenever possible, to showcase their craft, while practicing their own. They are proud to be a part of a community that recognizes the importance and value of supporting the small family farmer.
Bida Manda: Laotian Restaurant and Bar
Bida Manda is a thoughtful gathering place celebrating the diverse food traditions and culture of Laos. Bida Manda is the Sanskrit ceremonial term for father and mother. They named the restaurant Bida Manda to honor their parents in Laos, who instilled in them love of food and its power to bring people together.
