Cost of Essure Reversal Surgery at
A Personal Choice

Essure reversal surgery at our center takes approximately 90 minutes and no overnight hospital stay is required. We were the first to publish successful reports of Essure pregnancy within the medical literature and we have continued to improve our techniques. Since our first medical reports on Essure reversal we have developed surgical techniques, which allow us to remove the coils intact and allow our patients to recover quicker and with less discomfort.

The chance of pregnancy after Essure reversal is 35% to 40% and most patients will report pregnancy within 12 months.

Essure reversal offers an alternative to IVF

Essure reversal allows you the chance to become pregnant naturally. After reversing Essure you will have a chance to become pregnant every month and you can become pregnant more than once. Essure reversal provides women with an alternative to in-vitro fertilization.

  • Essure reversal surgery fee $7,500
  • Average Essure reversal pregnancy rate 35% to 40%

***Starting April 1st 2019 the cash discounted fee for Essure reversal or Essure removal surgery will increase to $7,900***

To obtain the cash discounted fee you must pay the entire surgery fee by bank wire, cashiers check, cash, or credit card.

*** If you are financing Essure reversal/Essure removal, starting April 1st 2019 the fee for tubal reversal surgery will increase to $8,500. ***

If you finance any portion of the entire fee you will have to pay the higher financing fee.

In comparison, the cost of a single cycle of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) is $14,000 and the average IVF success rate is 36% for each cycle attempted.

Our Essure surgery fee

The fee for surgery is all-inclusive and covers everything except the cost of your travel, meals, lodging, and prescription medications. Surgical fees are due in full within 24 hours of scheduling your surgery.

Essure Reversal vs Essure Removal

Essure sterilization reversal involves both Essure coil removal and re-introducing each fallopian tube into the uterine cavity (tubouterine implantation) and this is our recommend procedure for patients who would like to become pregnant again. Our Essure reversal procedure is recommended for women who would like the chance to become naturally pregnant.

Essure coil removal only involves removing the Essure coils from each fallopian tube and leaving the tubes closed so pregnancy will not ocur. Our Essure removal procedure is recommended for women who are having symptoms from the Essure devices but who do not want to become pregnant.

We have developed a surgical technique which minimizes the risk of Essure coil fracture during removal. Our surgical technique for Essure removal is detailed and involved and is very similar to our technique for Essure reversal. We do not simply pull on the coils to remove them. Instead we remove the Essure micro-inserts intact and with the surrounding scar tissue. The cost for Essure removal only is the same as the cost for Essure reversal.

Our Essure surgery fees are
all-inclusive and cover:

  • Preoperative record review and consultation
  • Surgeon’s fee
  • Anesthesia fees
  • Surgical supplies
  • Operating facility fees
  • Post-operative visit and follow-up care

The surgical fee payment can be made by bank-to-bank wire transfer, Visa, MasterCard, Discover card, cash, or sending a cashier’s check or money order by over-night delivery. Payments by credit card will be subject to an additional processing fee.

Screening laparoscopy
Unique to our practice

We are the only center offering patients an insurance policy during tubal ligation reversal surgery: Screening laparoscopy.

We never require a screening laparoscopy. This procedure is always optional. You should think of the optional screening laparoscopy as you would an insurance policy.

If Essure reversal or Essure removal is not possible then patients who choose the screening laparoscopy option will receive a refund of their surgical fee!

Screening laparoscopy is not typically required for Essure reversal or Essure removal. If you have a history of c-sections or uterine fibroid surgery you should consider adding the optional screening laparoscopy to your surgery.

C-sections and fibroid removal surgery can cause significant uterine scar tissue and can increase the difficulty of Essure reversal and Essure removal.

More information: How do c-sections cause severe scar tissue?

Patients who choose to have a screening laparoscopy at the time of tubal reversal surgery will pay (Essure reversal/removal fee + screening laparoscopy fee). If during the laparoscopy, Dr. Monteith does not think Essure reversal or Essure removal can be completed then patients who have the screening laparoscopy will be refunded Essure reversal/removal portion of the surgery fee.

Scheduling fee

When you are ready to schedule your reversal surgery, payment of a $125 scheduling fee is required to be added to the surgery schedule.

***Starting April 1st 2019 the scheduling fee will increase to $150***

The $125 scheduling fee covers the cost involved in planning and scheduling your surgery: 20 minute medical history phone interview, registration paper work, surgical date selection, ordering pre-operative lab work, and providing advice for travel and hotel reservations.

The scheduling fee can be conveniently paid with a credit card.

Your question does not have an easy answer:

      1. Essure reversal…we charge $7,400 and the chance of pregnancy is 40% and we recommend a c-section. If it does not work then you can always go for IVF.
      2. IVF….we dont do IVF but the chance of success is age dependent. Average success is 36% to 42%….if you are younger than 30 then it could be 50% to 60%. Cost averages $14,000 for each try…and IVF has been shown to be less successful when the Essure devices are in place.

We specialize in Essure reversal and Essure removal surgery. We can reverse Essure and give you the chance of pregnancy….or we can remove Essure and leave your tubes closed. The chance of pregnancy after Essure reversal is about 40%.

  3. Amanda says:

I’ve had essure for 2 1/2 years now. I want to get the reversal next year. Will the longer I wait to get the reversal done lower my chances of becoming pregnant afterwards?

    1. Dr. Monteith says:

      Amanda

The length of time does not decrease the chance of pregnancy unless it makes you significantly older. If you are older than 42 at the time of tubal reversal the chances of pregnancy will decrease. Each year you wait you do lose 12 chances to become pregnant but you do not develop more scar tissue because the devices stay in longer.

I have a fluid filled cyst on my left ovary and I plan on having the Essure Reversal mid of 2019. Would this effect me being a candidate? I have all the documentation from the (cyst) ultrasound as well as my Essure procedure documentation from 7 years ago.

    1. Dr. Monteith says:

It should not be a problem. You should send us the records of your cyst so we can see the size of the cyst. It will likely be gone by the time you have surgery.

  5. Sarah says:

What effects can polyps or fibroid tumors have on essure reversal, will they make it harder to concieve. I have had essure 9 years, Wondering if they have did too much damage.

    1. Dr. Monteith says:

      Sarah
Uterine polyps or small fibroids in the cavity of the uterus can make it more difficult to conceive. These need to be removed before having either reversal or IVF.
The 9 years since Essure is not important unless it makes you older than 42. It is harder to become pregnant with increasing age.

We would need to review your records to determine if you are a candidate for reversal surgery. If the fibroids are large then we would not perform Essure reversal because it can make Essure surgery more difficult to perform.

You definitely should have fibroids and polyps removed from inside your uterus before reversal. You should not have fibroids removed from the abdominal side because it can cause severe scar tissue and make reversal more difficult.
