***Starting April 1st 2019 the scheduling fee will increase to $150***

We have greatly simplified the required testing for tubal reversal. We only require a complete blood count. We can order this lab test for you during your scheduling interview or your local doctor can order this test for you. This testing must be done within 90 days of surgery and the test results need to be faxed to our office.

If you have a complex medical history additional lab testing may be required and this will be discussed during your scheduling interview.

  1. Christine says:

I currently 35 years old and had 4 C-sections with a BMI of 33%,am I a candidate for tubal reversal surgery even tho my tubes were tied and burnt after my last delivery?

    1. Dr. Monteith says:

We should be able to reverse your tubes. You should consider our screening laparoscopy because of your history of c-sections and the possibility of scar tissue.

We charge $6,400 for tubal reversal surgery. You should send us your records from your tubal ligation for a free review. Sometimes patients cannot get their records. Even if you cannot obtain your records we would perform tubal reversal for you because we can reverse most tubal ligations most of the time.

Tubal reversal can be 60% to 70% effective. The other treatment to become pregnant is In-vitro Fertilization (IVF) and this treatment cost averages $14,000 and is about 40% effective for each try.

Tubal reversal is possible when you have a history of multiple c-sections. We have many patients who have successful reversal and pregnancy with a history of c-sections. The biggest concern with multiple (3 or more) c-sections is the possibility of severe scar tissue. If severe scar tissue exists then reversal may not be possible.

We estimate that about 1 out of 12 women with 3 or more c-sections will have severe scar tissue that can make tubal reversal more challenging and in some cases not possible. For these patients we offer a screening laparoscopy. You can consider this similar to a surgery insurance policy. The laparoscopy costs an additional $1,500.

If you choose to have a screening laparoscopy we can look with a camera during the surgery and see if you have severe scar tissue. If you have severe scar tissue we can often make a different incision…so this can increase the success of your procedure. If your tubes are not repairable or the scar tissue is too severe then we would offer you a refund of your surgical fee.

  2. Amanda says:

I just got my medical records this morning and saw in the Dr’s notes that my tubal ligation procedure that I had a Salpingectomy. Does this mean I am no longer a candidate for a reversal??

    1. Dr. Monteith says:

      Amanda
It depends on if they did a partial (small segment) or total (complete tube removal) salpingectomy.

We can reverse most tubal ligation procedures. We should be be able to help you with tubal reversal surgery and you should send us your tubal ligation records for a free review.

We charge $6400 total plus $125 to schedule and we are located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Patients pay in full and out-of-pocket at the time of scheduling. All you have to pay for in addition to the surgical fee is the cost of travel, hotel, and food.

On average the chance of pregnancy after tubal ligation reversal is about 60% if you are under age 42.

We do have a prepayment tubal reversal plan that allows you to save towards your reversal over a 3 year period.

Although $6,400 seems expensive…the alternative treatment in-vitro fertilization (IVF) average $12,000 to $14,000 and is about 40% successful!

The main advantage to tubal reversal is that every month you have a chance and you can become pregnant more than once.

  3. Jenna says:

I see that for women, the BMI needs to be under 37 to be done at this facility….some facilities require you to be lower than that or charge 1000.00 for liposuction of the surgery area…does this place require that? I am 5’7” and currently 198lbs. I am down 32 lbs in 5 months…more to go but trying to get a price estimate. If I would need that extra $1000 if I didn’t hit a certain BMI first…any help would be great! Thanks!

    1. Dr. Monteith says:

      Jenna
We do not offer liposuction. One center uses liposuction as a way to get more money from you. They find a reason to squeeze and extra $1000 bucks from you. They sell you something that everybody wants “liposuction” and the patient thinks they are getting a deal. Read the article linked to in this comment.

Your BMI is only 31. You would be a candidate for reversal at our center without any need for an additional unnecessary procedure or fees.

      1. Weight. We don’t charge patients by the pound! We believe that is unethical. We do have a maximal BMI limit and BMI is calculated based on your height and weight. Our maximal BMI limit is 37. You can calculate your BMI here: BMI Calculator

      2. Liposuction. Requiring liposuction for tubal reversal is dishonest and unethical…it does not make the surgery any safe or more successful.

Patients pay in full and out-of-pocket at the time of scheduling. All you have to pay for in addition to the surgical fee is the cost of travel, hotel, and food.
