Charles W. Monteith M.D.
Medical Director

Tubal ligation reversal at our specialty center is affordable and successful outpatient surgery. No overnight hospital stay is required.

The surgery experience patients have at our center is unequaled by any other provider of tubal reversal surgery.

Tubal reversal surgery can be very successful at restoring your natural fertility, allowing you the chance to become pregnant every month, and providing you the ability to become pregnant more than once.

Tubal reversal Experience counts!

Our practice is exclusively dedicated to infertility surgery and we have performed tubal surgery on over 10,000 patients since 1997. Our surgical techniques have a proven track record of success and we have pioneered techniques that allow the surgery to performed outside of a hospital setting and with faster recovery.

We are responsible for more successful tubal reversal surgeries and more tubal reversal babies than any other reversal center in the world.

Types of tubal ligations
Can tubes be reversed?

All tubal ligation procedures will cause blockage of the fallopian tube. Our experience has demonstrated the majority of tubal ligations can be reversed and pregnancy is possible.

Even if you have had tubal coagulation (bipolar or monopolar burning), ligation and resection (Parkland, Irving, Pomeroy, or Uchida procedures), tubal rings (Falope or Yoon rings), tubal clips (Filshie or Hulka clips), or hysteroscopic tubal occlusion (Essure or Adiana procedures), we are able to reverse these tubal ligations in over 98% of our patients.

We encourage potential patients to send us copies of their tubal ligation operative reports for a free review. This will allow us to determine with greater certainty if someone is a candidate for tubal reversal surgery.

How is tubal ligation reversed?

Since most of our patients travel to see us we perform most of our evaluation and scheduling using phone, email, and fax. Patients will then travel to us and spend 2 to 3 days at our facility.

The pre-operative consult is the day before reversal surgery and the surgery is the next following day.

We reverse tubal ligations through a small 2 to 4 inch incision made just above the pubic hair line. The surgery is out-patient and lasts approximately 60 minutes.

Our patients recover at the Hyatt Raleigh of North Hills Mall.Patients then return to the Hyatt House of Raleigh Hotel to recover and are seen in our office for a post-operative evaluation the day after surgery.

After the post-operative evaluation, patients then return home and can attempt to become pregnant as soon as they feel comfortable. Most of our patients can return to work within 7 to 10 days and most will become pregnant within the first 12 months of having reversal surgery.

Does reversing tubes really work?

Tubal reversal surgery at our center can be very successful and can provide patients with an alternative treatment to in-vitro fertilization. Tubal reversal allows you a chance to become pregnant every month and over many months these chances add up and, unlike IVF, tubal reversal allows you the chance to become pregnant more than once.

In our experience approximately 2 out of 3 of our patients will become pregnant after reversing their tubes.

We have comprehensive pregnancy statistics after tubal reversal collected from over 10,000 of our reversal patients. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine has consistently issued committee opinions on the role and effectiveness of tubal surgery.1

Our patients continually update us with reports documenting their pregnancy success. These messages are updated frequently and can be veiwed within the Pregnancy Testimonials and Patient Reviews sections of our website.

  1. Kira says:

Hi, I have 4 c-sections done up and down and I got my tubes tied but on my op report it say I had a bilateral tubal ligation kroner type which I don’t know what it is. But I really want to have another baby I’m 27 and healthy can I get it reversed?

    1. Dr. Monteith says:

      Kira

A Kroner tubal ligation is when the doctor removes the ends of each Fallopian tube. This is also called fimbriectomy.

In general…if the doctor removed the ends of each tube and you have also had 4 c-sections. IVF may be the best treatment for you to get pregnant.

Fimbriectomy (tubal ligation that removes the ends of the tubes) can be reversed but it depends on how much of the end of the tube was removed.

In general, if the ends of the tubes have been removed then IVF may offer you your best chance at pregnancy if you are under the age of 40.

The chances of pregnancy are around 15% to 40%. You are welcome to send your records to us for a free review. Call us at (919)977-5050 and we would be happy to speak with you about reversal and how to send records.

  2. Kelli says:

My partner and I are interested in getting pregnant. I am 47 years old and my tubal ligation was performed 25 years ago. The hospital has closed and i probably am unable to get my records. I had the procedure performed laparoscopically and believed she said she “butned” them. We wanted to know how we should proceed with the process?

    1. Dr. Monteith says:

      Kelli

Th chance of natural pregnancy at age 47 is less than 5%. Your best chances are with IVF and donor eggs.

We should be able to help you with tubal reversal but it is harder to become pregnant with increasing age so I would not delay your decision for too long.

We do have many patients who become pregnant with tubal reversal after age 40. Most of the women who become pregnant after reversal are between the age of 40 and 43.

We charge $6400 total plus $125 to schedule and we are located in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Please be aware that starting April 1st 2019 the fee for reversal surgery will increase to $6,900 and the scheduling fee will increase to $150. If you want to avoid the higher fees then you should schedule your surgery before April 1st or start a Reversal Prepayment Account.

Patients pay in full and out-of-pocket at the time of scheduling. All you have to pay for in addition to the surgical fee is the cost of travel, hotel, and food.

The alternative treatment is in-vitro fertilization (IVF). Most IVF doctors will recommend you use donor eggs after the age of 42. A single cycle of IVF averages $14,000 and average success is 38% for each try. After age 40 IVF success decreases quickly.

If you would like to get started then the best first step is to send us your tubal ligation records for a free review. Your tubal ligation records can be obtained from the Medical Records Department in the hospital where your tubal ligation was performed. Occasionally your doctors office may have the records. Sometimes patients may not be able to obtain their tubal ligation records. We can still proceed with surgery without records because we can reverse most tubal ligation procedures.

Will insurance cover anything?? Medical mutual. Also what records would I need Thank u for any information. I really want a reversal just need the money and trying to figure out where to start thank u so much

    1. Dr. Monteith says:

      Rachael

We do accept HSA cards but the card can only be used the same year you have surgery and you cannot use HSA funds to contribute to a reversal prepayment plan.

Insurance rarely covers reversal. We will try to file if you are in network but you must pay in full before having surgery. We do not accept Medical Mutual.

Most patients pay in full or consider financing.

We specialize in Essure reversal and Essure removal surgery. We can reverse Essure and give you the chance of pregnancy….or we can remove Essure and leave your tubes closed. The chance of pregnancy after Essure reversal is about 40%.

No other clinic or doctor has the experience we do. The chance of pregnancy after Essure reversal is about 40%. If you are having symptoms that started soon after Essure most patients report improvement after removal of the devices. We do have a surgery prepayment plan.

More information: Successful Essure reversal with Dr Monteith

We charge a total of $7,500 for Essure reversal/removal plus $125 to schedule surgery. If you use our prepayment plan then you can contribute any amount as you are able but you must have the surgery paid for by three years.
