PTLS Background
I last wrote an update one month following my tubal reversal with Dr. Berger.
I had been suffering a number of symptoms after tubal ligation: heavy and irregular periods, muscle and joint pain, thyroid problems (and the accompanying symptoms of hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, of which I had been diagnosed), weight loss, insomnia, anxiety and depression, and severe fatigue.
My husband and I had sought a large number of prominent physicians in search of answers and relief. After two years of searching, we had a partial diagnosis of Post-Tubal Ligation Syndrome and no relief. We decided to see Dr. Berger and have a tubal reversal in January 2011.
In the first month following the surgery our results were more than we could ever expect. I was now getting at least 5 hours of sleep each night, my acne and hair loss, muscle and joint pain and nausea and vomiting all improved dramatically. Friends and family that had seen me often in the previous two years were stunned at the difference taking place.
Treatment For Tubal Ligation Side Effects
We were very excited, but cautiously optimistic as we proceeded through the following months. Our goal was to really see the difference that this one surgery made, so I stayed on the same regimen that I had prior to surgery for the following months. I did nothing different. I took the same nutritional supplements and stayed on the same nutrient dense regimen that I had prior to the surgery.
Tubal Effect On Thyroid: Reversal Helped
In November of 2010, my thyroid markers were getting increasingly worse, with my TSH rising from 5.1 to 10.3 and my TPOAb’s rising to 46. I had been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and it was recommended to me that my thyroid was shutting down and it might need to be radioactively destroyed. I had been, and remain, on a gluten free diet.
In June of 2011, not even 6 months after my tubal reversal, my TSH went from 10.3 to 3.7 and my thyroid antibodies decreased from 46 to 37! The endocrinologist that was testing my markers had no explanation for this happening. My husband and I knew from our meticulous calculating that it had to be the tubal reversal.
In October of 2011 I had my annual exam with my OBGYN. The last time he had seen me was in October of 2010, close to my lowest point in the past three years. When I walked into his office this year, he was stunned at the changes he saw. He was aware and encouraging of the tubal reversal as he had seen me struggle for two years, yet he was reluctant to recommend it as he had never known anyone to have one before. He is so encouraged by the positive results we have seen that he will now inform his patients of the risk of having a tubal ligation as well as keep a closer eye on his patient’s symptoms after having a tubal ligation.
The Miracle Of Tubal Reversal
This past year has been such a blessing to our lives. People often ask me, “If you could go back, would you still have chosen to have a tubal ligation?” I tell them, “ABSOLUTELY!” If I had not had a tubal ligation, I would never know or understand the process of a tubal reversal. I would have missed out on a wealth of experience in suffering and redemption. I would have missed out on learning how to seek out answers for myself and not just mask a problem but find solutions and answers.
My body has gone from a state of illness to a state of health. I have gone from absorbing very few of the nutrients I take in to utilizing and using more and more each day. I have gone from sleeping very little to sleeping every night. I have gone from 133lbs at my lowest to a much healthier 145lbs today. I am able to exercise lightly and have normal muscle soreness. For ten months now, I have had completely normal 28 day cycles. I still have some heaviness in my bleeding, but it is much less painful and much more manageable. There are still many days my body feels fatigued from all it has gone through in the past three years, but I am thankful to feel my body fighting to heal itself and recover. I have had a CT scan done of my abdomen and there were no traces of any scar tissue or abnormalities (a blessing after two c-sections, a tubal ligation, and a tubal reversal!). I have less anxiety, less depression, and less illness. After the tubal ligation, I was on a downhill spiral. Since the tubal reversal, I am on an uphill trend. My two little girls used to pray every night, “Dear Jesus, please heal mama.” They know say, “Dear Jesus, thank you for healing mama.”
Suffering After Tubal Ligation
If you are reading this and are suffering from symptoms of Post-Tubal Ligation Syndrome, I would recommend meeting with and talking to Dr. Berger and his staff at A Personal Choice.
If you are managing your symptoms with hormones and drugs and have been told “this is as good as it’s going to get”, I would encourage you to keep looking. When in proper alignment with proper nutrients, the female body is capable of feeling great at any age.
I can’t say enough about my short time at A Personal Choice, my stay in Chapel Hill, and the encouragement that Dr. Berger has been to me and my family.
