Reversal Surgery Travel
Tubal Reversal Message Board » Preparing for Tubal Reversal » How far have people traveled?
Introduction
Most of our patients come to Chapel Hill from other states and many from overseas. To minimize the time you have to spend here we arrange to do everything in one visit. Your preoperative consultation will be scheduled for the day before your tubal reversal. The preoperative consultation includes discussions with Dr. Berger, his office nurses, and the anesthesiologist in preparation for your surgery. On the day of your tubal reversal, you will spend the morning at Chapel Hill Surgical Center and the rest of the day back at your hotel room. The morning after your tubal reversal, Dr. Berger or one of our nurses will visit you at your hotel for a postoperative check prior to your returning home. You will spend two nights at the Residence Inn in Chapel Hill - the night before surgery and the night of your surgery.
In the Message Board excerpts below, Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center patients and staff discuss issues about travelling here for their reversal surgery. As on the Message Board, the order of posts reading down from top to bottom of the page is from the most recent to the original message.

| mrszamudio | Hello - I too will have a tubal reversal with Dr. Berger. I have searched around but I always come back to Dr. Berger's site. I'm from Guadalupe, California and was wondering if anyone knows of any good deals on airlines. I will be traveling from Santa Maria, California | |
| SherylH | We are coming from central Michigan. We are flying and scheduled for May 20! My DH and I are both Registered Nurses, he in the OR and myself in Labor and Delivery. (How ironic that we hit both specialties needed). After reviewing all the information and of course DH wanted to watch the video, we were both very impressed. So, let me join everyone else by saying we thought Dr. Berger to be the best prepared to help us. We can't wait. | |
| LaurieN | We came from Santa Barbara, CA. Obviously, we flew! It was about 9 hours. For the flight home we bought first class upgrades and it was WONDERFUL! My DF told the flight attendant that I had surgery the day before and they treated us like we were the only 2 on the plane. Kay, as always you very eloquently voiced the very reasons we chose Dr. Berger after 2 years of researching TR's. As a nurse that works in an outpatient surgery center (my DF is a scrub tech in the same center), I was skeptical of finding a surgeon on the internet. We have exceptionally high standards because of our respective careers working with several world renowned orthpaedic surgeons...BUT for all the reasons you all have listed and more, after contacting CHTRC, I knew that this was the ONLY place that would be even considered as an option for putting me back together. That's all I have to say about that! Laurie | |
| bruingirl | I am so excited to be coming all the way from California. My TR is June 6th. Can't wait to get things going. My flight will take about 9 1/2 hrs. That is with a layover. I so glad I'm not driving. I can't wait to get home and start the journey. bruingirl | |
| stephg124ny | Hi everyone, I could see my exact pin on the map. I let my husband put it on there for us. The lonely one in the middle of upper New York, all by itself. We drove for quite awhile to get there. About 13 hours I think. We chose Dr. Berger to do the surgery for many reasons. I also did a lot of research, and I think Kay's post said it best. Another "well-known" TR doctor in Kentucky also caught my eye, but after talking with him and his staff, I decided against him. I felt very pressured and I also found out he charges more for heavier women. I can understand that very overweight women should not have elective surgery because of health risks, but charging by the pound is just plain awful!!! I was well below the weight limit, but that's not the point!!! I felt like he had no respect for women. Upon receiving his informational packet in the mail, I believe there were references in it to Dr. Berger's surgical technique and how terrible it was. My feeling is that if you have to bash someone else to make yourself look better, then you aren't very good. ANYWAY....I had my TR on Nov. 10th, 2004 and the experience was great. Dr. Berger and his staff are everything that they promise to be and so much more. I am currently 17 weeks pregnant and impatiently awaiting my next OB appointment to find out the sex of the baby! I think that if you do the research you will find that Dr. Berger is the best, hands down and is well worth whatever trip you have to arrange. I wish everyone the best, and a Happy Mother's Day (one day late). Steph | |
| Toni T. | Tennessee--Chapel Hill, no less!! About 10-11 hours Toni | |
| KimSmi | I'm coming from Maine. From what I see on the map, only a few patients have travelled from Maine for this procedure (10-12, mostly from the southern part of the state). Our flights will be 1 hr 20 minutes from Portland ME to Wash. DC, then 58 minutes from DC to Chapel Hill with an hour layover in between. Same thing only reversed (pun somewhat intended ) on the way back. I can't wait! 7 weeks from tonight, we'll be in Chapel Hill awaiting surgery in the morning. Blessings to all and Happy Mother's Day. Kim 31 TL 5-1-99 TR 6-27-05 | |
