Questions about Tubal Reversal: Tubal Reversal vs IVF

Luckypj's It seems that most fertility doctors recommend IVF and don't consider tubal reversal. Why??? There are very few women that I have contact with who have had successful IVF. Both of mine were unsuccessful. Why do these doctors suggest IVF?

Londa I considered IVF about four years ago. It is very expensive with each attempt and we didn't have that kind of money to spend. We found Dr. Berger's tubal reversal website about three years ago and I kept coming back to it. We decided it would be easier this way because we only had to pay one time and could try to conceive every month (with no additional cost). I had my reversal in January of this year and became pregnant in April. I'm currently 21 weeks pregnant and all is well.

It's too bad more doctors don't know about Dr. Berger's tubal reversal statistics. Oh, by the way, my post op pain lasted only a few days and I was back to normal with a viable pregnancy a few months later. In my mind, this is the only way to go unless there is not enough tube to reconnect or there is irrepairable blockage.

Rhonda Brown, RN  Dear Luckypj's

There are physicians out there that do prefer women under go IVF. However, for most women -- except those who have had multiple site monopolar coagulation of the tubes -- tubal reversal surgery is the better option. Once the tubes are repaired, there is the chance that pregnancy can occur naturally each month. With IVF, medications must be administered by injection and a minor surgical procedure performed each time pregnancy is attempted. Based on current national statistics, the pregnancy rate for IVF is approximately 25% and costs between $6,000 to $15,000 for each treatment cycle. In most cases, tubal ligation reversal is the most successful and cost-effective alternative for pregnancy in women who have been previously sterilized and now desire to have another baby. I hope this information helps. Please feel free to contact me if you have additional questions or if I can assist you with anything. I look forward to hearing from you.

shoegirl Luckypj:

Dr Berger performs this surgery using a special technique that has a short recovery time. I had mine done on a Thursday and went back to work on Monday. You have cycle after cycle to try to conceive with the reversal. With IVF you have that one chance that is expensive. My reversal was in February 2006 and I am currently 10 weeks pregnant. I would trust Dr. Berger over anyone!! It was definitely the best choice I made. Good Luck!
