Read the discussion below among new and old members of the Tubal Reversal Message Board to get their advice about going to a doctor in Mexico vs going to Dr Berger for tubal reversal surgery.

fe Does anyone have or know of anyone who had their tubal reversal done in Mexico? I am wanting to go with Dr Berger. Only finances seem to be standing in my way. Any advice?
Melissa and Ian My honest advice would be to take the extra time to save to have Dr.Berger perform your surgery. He is the best there is! This is not something that you should trust just anyone to do. I would not have chosen anyone else and after going to Chapel Hill it just proved my gut feeling to have been right! This message board is just proof of how wonderful he and his staff are. They are truly a gift from God! I do not know anything about doctors in Mexico.. I will tell you that if you use your recources and research everywhere you go Dr. Berger's name pops up and there is a reason for it! And I looked far and wide to find the Best!! Finances were and issue on my end too but let me tell you, I would have saved and saved and saved to wait to have Dr Berger do my surgery. Good luck in your journey and I will pray that you choose Chapel Hill!
CDG44 I had my TR done by Dr. Berger and a friend asked me about him. I gave her the video to watch and information about Dr. Berger's website. I answered so many questions she had and showed her my itty bitty scar. She in turn took this information to her doctor and he swore he could do the same and going to a strange doctor was crazy,so he convinced her to let him do the TR. Well, while still in recovery she was so upset, she had this incision from one side of her to the other and had to stay home in bed for several weeks and is still sore. She regrets her decision and can't wear a two piece swimsuit or anything too low because her scar will show. Dr. Berger may be not in your area but he's dang worth the trip. He has TR down to an art. He covers all the bases with this surgery, before ,during and after. Would it be worth the risk to go to Mexico and then get an infection or surgery botched up? If I can answer any questons feel free to ask me. Like I said, I've been to Dr.B. Good Luck to you.
Chris
bykerchyck I don't know which doctor in Mexico you may be referring to, but if it a certain one, I know what is done. I researched it all. Do not do it. Email me if need be at aharleygryl@icqmail.com - I also put information on my site about this.

Digger What good is having the TR if it's not done properly? In Mexico you may get a better price but at what cost to you personally?
I simply don't trust my health to just anyone and that is why I chose Dr Berger.

fe As I receive this valuable information, I appreciate your thoughtful input. Thank you all for responding.
ROBIN $ CHUCK At first because of the price, my husband and I considered going to a doctor in Mexico. But after looking into it a little more I just got the queezy jeebies and decided to go with Dr. Berger. I am still saving right now but I have a good feeling about him. .So you just have to do your own research and go with your own gut feeling.
Amy1234 I know people that have went to the Mexican doctor and have been happy too. Just because it is in Mexico shouldn't be your only consideration, let's be fair.
KimSmi I had TR surgery 17 days ago and my incision honestly doesn't look that different than before I went (2 previous c-sections).

It takes a skilled surgeon to operate on someone so that they look...and feel...like it never happened. I know some ladies without previous c-sections may be aware of their scars, but for me, it is like it never happened...it may even look a bit improved over what it used to.

I understand the stress of getting money together but I would *never* go to Mexico for surgery, TR or other.

Kim
Digger To be fair, what is the recourse you as a patient can take if you go to Mexico and end up butchered?
Angela
Melissa and Ian Ok, my opinion was not because of that Dr being in Mexico at all, and let's talk about fair...This board is set up for potential and current patients of Dr. Berger. It would not be fair for any of us to recomend anyone but the BEST!! DR. BERGER!!!
Wink
Amy1234 Of course Dr. Berger is the best, and I don't think my comment warranted such nastiness.
Melissa and Ian How can you get nastiness out of my response?? I think sometimes people take things the wrong way! The Wink should have been a clear indication that there was no nastiness involved! Big Grin
Amy1234 Melissa,
You are right and I apologize. I reread the posts after I responded. I read it wrong. Sorry. Smile

Amy
TWOGIRLZMOMMY Just my opinion, but in most cases you only get one chance at this...I'd go with the best!!!

Melissa and Ian Amy~ No need to apologize!! I kept re-reading it myself.. I so try not to be nasty to anyone.. I am a lover not a fighter! Love
Webmaster Be a doctor from Mexico, the USA, or anywhere else in the world. Dr. Berger stands out above them all.

Dr. Berger is the best choice among doctors for tubal reversal operations. Dr. Berger has the most experience of any doctor in the world in performing tubal reversal surgery, has the highest pregnancy rates, makes his results available by publishing accurate statistics, and provides forums for discussion of all aspects of tubal reversal surgery on the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center website. He truly caries for the welfare of his patients and treats them with kindness and respect, and makes the operation safe and affordable as outpatient surgery.

Digger I have seen many patients from Mexico who have had unfavorable consequences and that is what my opinion is based on. I would NEVER go out of the states and trust my body to any procedure. That is my opinion as you have yours. I had my TR 2/2/05 and am expecting our miracle baby in July so to say I am pleased with Dr Berger's work is an understatement.

stephg124ny I don't think anyone is knocking another doctor because he's Mexican. I really don't. We don't seem to have women like that on this board. I think all we are trying to say is "Are you comparing Apples to Apples?" There may be a price difference, but does the doctor maintain a statistical analysis of all his patients like Dr. Berger to determine his actual pregnancy outcome? Is his clinic accredited like Chapel Hill is? If so, by what agency and by what standards do they judge? What recourse do you have, and what followup care can you expect if you go out of the country? Where did he go to medical school? If you ask the same questions of all the TR doctors regardless of location and nationality, you will see that Dr. Berger is heads above the rest. You get what you pay for. That's all we are saying.

Gracie00007 I have to put my two cents in...

It is ultimately your decision who you choose to do the surgery. That is the bottom line!

Yes, it is true there are other doctors out there who perform TR's and I am sure they are good. But it was my ultimate responsibility as a patient to educate myself and choose the doctor that has the WHOLE PACKAGE and with whom I felt 100% comfortable. I am color and gender blind when it comes to this stuff. It doesn't matter if you are a woman or a man or if you are green, blue or purple...it comes down to the qualifications. QUALIFICATIONS! Do you honestly think these long-term members on this message board would not have chosen Dr. Berger if he was Mexican...that's absurd. They chose him because of his training, experience and follow-up care.

I think a lot of the members have made valid points. I ultimately would not travel anywhere, whether it was North Carolina or Mexico without knowing the standards and protocols a professional follows and the recourse I have in case something happens while they are slicing open my body. All doctors are not infallible! But you do have to protect yourself because no one will.

Price should not be an issue when it comes to your body. What value are you placing on yourself, if you choose...lets say a doctor who is $1000 less? If it was going to cost me $1000 more to receive the absolute best care then I would pay it.

You asked us our opinion and that is that. We praise Dr. Berger and his staff because we have experienced their world class professionalism and care. We know how extremely fortunate we are.

I wish you the best with whomever you chose.

Good Luck,
Grace Smile
USMC Wife I have to chime in here as well.

I have not had my surgery yet, but within the next couple of weeks I will be making the trip to Chapel Hill to pay for it in full and schedule in person.

A lot of thought and research went into my family chosing Dr. Berger. It was a family choice and we all took part in researching doctors from all over the world.

We decided at the beginning that if we were going to do this, we were going to do it right and pick THE BEST. It didn't matter where in the world we had to go, how far away it was or how much it cost, as long as the doctor performing the surgery was the absolute best in the world.

I admit that when I saw how very affordable it was at Chapel Hill I hesitated. I guess we're all trained to believe "if it's the best it's the most expensive." But time after time no matter who we asked, Dr. Berger was praised as the best there was. My own doctor, who also performs this procedure, recommended him. To me that spoke volumes.

I would travel anywhere in the world to have this surgery and have it done by the best. I just happen to be lucky enough that Chapel Hill is only a few hours away from where we currently live. As for traveling far away and perhaps to another country for surgery and what to do if something should go wrong after..well, I for one would NOT want to return to the same doctor who caused something to "go wrong". I would seek out medical attention close to home.
But that's just me.

I haven't even had my TR yet and I already feel completely at ease and safe in Dr. Berger's hands.

Just my humble opinion though. Wink
