Essure Reversal vs Essure Removal

Essure sterilization reversal involves both Essure coil removal and re-introducing each fallopian tube into the uterine cavity (tubouterine implantation) and this is our recommend procedure for patients who would like to become pregnant again. Our Essure reversal procedure is recommended for women who would like the chance to become naturally pregnant.

Essure coil removal only involves removing the Essure coils from each fallopian tube and leaving the tubes closed so pregnancy will not ocur. Our Essure removal procedure is recommended for women who are having symptoms from the Essure devices but who do not want to become pregnant.

We have developed a surgical technique which minimizes the risk of Essure coil fracture during removal. Our surgical technique for Essure removal is detailed and involved and is very similar to our technique for Essure reversal. We do not simply pull on the coils to remove them. Instead we remove the Essure micro-inserts intact and with the surrounding scar tissue. The cost for Essure removal only is the same as the cost for Essure reversal.

The surgical fee payment can be made by bank-to-bank wire transfer, Visa, MasterCard, Discover card, American Express card, cash, or sending a cashier’s check or money order by over-night delivery.

Payments by credit card, FSA card, or HSA card will be subject to an additional processing fee.

Screening laparoscopy

Unique to our practice

We are the only center offering patients an insurance policy during tubal ligation reversal surgery: Screening laparoscopy.

We never require a screening laparoscopy. This procedure is always optional. You should think of the optional screening laparoscopy as you would an insurance policy.

If Essure reversal or Essure removal is not possible then patients who choose the screening laparoscopy option will receive a refund of their surgical fee!

Screening laparoscopy is not typically required for Essure reversal or Essure removal.

If you have a history of c-sections or uterine fibroid surgery you should consider adding the optional screening laparoscopy to your surgery.

C-sections and fibroid removal surgery can cause significant uterine scar tissue and can increase the difficulty of Essure reversal and Essure removal.

Patients who choose to have a screening laparoscopy at the time of tubal reversal surgery will pay (Essure reversal/removal fee + screening laparoscopy fee). If during the laparoscopy, Dr. Monteith or Dr. Harris do not think Essure reversal or Essure removal can be completed then patients who have the screening laparoscopy will be refunded Essure reversal/removal portion of the surgery fee.
