Symptoms After Tubal Ligation: Personal Stories

pain is sometimes experienced by some after tubal ligationMany women will choose to have a tubal ligation as a means of permanent birth control.

Most women will be happy with their choice to have their tubes tied but a significant number of women will experience regret.

Some will regret their decision simply because they will have changed their mind and would like to have more children.

Others will regret their tubal ligation because they have experienced abnormal symptoms after their tubes were tied.

Tubal Ligation Symptoms

The most common symptoms experienced by women after a tubal ligation are abnormal menstrual periods and heavier bleeding. Most of these symptoms are due to anovulation (lack of egg release).

The irregular ovulation is most often related to weight gain during multiple pregnancies before the tubal ligation and the increase in maternal age. Some women report symptoms of pain which can be due to endometriosis and adenomyosis and others report symptoms which are more systemic (anxiety, depression, brittle hair/nails, etc) and these abnormal symptoms are more difficult to explain.

Side Effects After Tied Tubes

We recently participated in an internet radio blog show that discuss the side effects experienced by some women after tubal ligation. On this show we explained the controversy surrounding Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome and our experience in dealing with patients who have experienced abnormal side effects after having their tubes tied. Two women who experienced abnormal symptoms after their tubal ligations also shared their stories. These women explain how their tubal reversal surgeries were instrumental in helping rid themselves problems they were experiencing after tubal ligation.

Tubal Ligation Problems

If you may be having problems after a tubal ligation then we encourage you to listen to the radio blog show broad cast and to also consider joining our Tubal Reversal Facebook page to have discussions with other women in similar situations.

tubal ligation symptoms can be shared with othersThe two patients, Megan and Kat, who participated in the radio show are members of a PTLS Facebook group and also a personal PTLS blog. Women who are interested in learning more can join to share experiences and seek personal advice.

If you think you may be experiencing problems after your tubal ligation then you should make an appointment with your doctor to discuss your  symptoms and concerns.

Depending on your symptoms, your doctor should evaluate you for anovulation, adenomyosis, endometriosis and other conditions which could be contributing to your symptoms.

If no other causes can be determined and your symptoms started immediately after your tubal ligation then you should consider tubal ligation reversal to help determine the cause of your problems and possibly resolved the symptoms you have been experiencing.

Personal Stories About PTLS

Readers are encouraged to listen to this archived internet blog radio show about PTLS. The host of the show is Roxanne Pugh of Real Life Decoded. Her guest for this segment are tubal reversal specialist, Dr. Charles Monteith, and two patients who have had symptoms after their tubal ligation surgeries.

The show is archived and is entitled: PTLS With Dr. Charles Monteith, MD . By following this link you can hear the previously recorded show. The show begins about 1 to 2 minutes after clicking on the link and listening to a brief jazz introduction.
