4. Pay scheduling fee and schedule your surgery

After paying your $125 scheduling fee it only takes a 20-minute phone call to have a scheduling nurse interview you and schedule your surgery date. This fee can conveniently be paid by credit card.

For more information about scheduling: Detailed step-by-step guide to scheduling surgery

***Starting April 1st 2019 the scheduling fee will increase to $150***

5. Complete the registration forms

After your scheduling interview is completed, you will be sent a confirmation email which will contain: a Patient Responsibility Statement, What To Expect brochure and Registration Packet. This information will educate and prepare you for surgery at our center. The signature pages of these documents should be signed and returned to our office.

6. Pay surgery fee

The surgery fee must be paid in full within 24 hours of scheduling. Only after payment is received will your surgery date be confirmed. The surgery fee can be paid with cashiers check, money order, credit card, or bank to bank wire transfer.

***Starting April 1st 2019 the fees for surgery will be increasing…visit the cost for each procedure section of our website to see the anticipated fee increases***

7. Obtain the pre-operative lab testing

We have greatly simplified the required testing for tubal reversal. We only require a complete blood count. We can order this lab test for you during your scheduling interview or your local doctor can order this test for you. This testing must be done within 90 days of surgery and the test results need to be faxed to our office.

If you have a complex medical history additional lab testing may be required and this will be discussed during your scheduling interview.

8. Make hotel and travel arrangements

Our office is in Raleigh, North Carolina, is conveniently located, and easily accessible by most airlines and Amtrak train. We are a short drive by car from all major cities on the East Coast and central US.

All patients who come for surgery stay at either the Hyatt House Raleigh North Hills or the AC Hotel Raleigh North Hills.

Each hotel is located in the trendy North Hills Mall in mid-town Raleigh and both are close to our specialty center. Each hotel is within walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and entertainment.

These hotels offer patients of Dr. Monteith special room rates. In order to receive this special pricing, we recommend you make your hotel reservations with the hotel reservation email link which will be emailed to you after you schedule your surgery date.

9. Your operation

  1. Miranda says:

I’ve had 4 c sections and after the last one in 2009 I had my tubes tied, is it possible for me to have this surgery done and still be able to concieve and give birth.

    1. Dr. Monteith says:

      Miranda
We should be able to reverse your tubes. You should consider our screening laparoscopy because of your history of c-sections and the possibility of scar tissue.

We charge $6,400 for tubal reversal surgery. You should send us your records from your tubal ligation for a free review. Sometimes patients cannot get their records. Even if you cannot obtain your records we would perform tubal reversal for you because we can reverse most tubal ligations most of the time.

Please be aware starting April 1st 2019 the cost for tubal reversal surgery will increase to $6,900. The scheduling fee will increase from $125 to $150.

Tubal reversal can be 60% to 70% effective. The other treatment to become pregnant is In-vitro Fertilization (IVF) and this treatment cost averages $14,000 and is about 40% effective for each try.

Tubal reversal is possible when you have a history of multiple c-sections. We have many patients who have successful reversal and pregnancy with a history of c-sections. The biggest concern with multiple (3 or more) c-sections is the possibility of severe scar tissue. If severe scar tissue exists then reversal may not be possible.

We estimate that about 1 out of 12 women with 3 or more c-sections will have severe scar tissue that can make tubal reversal more challenging and in some cases not possible. For these patients we offer a screening laparoscopy. You can consider this similar to a surgery insurance policy.

The laparoscopy costs an additional $1,500. The screening laparoscopy fee will increase from $1,500 to $1,750.

If you choose to have a screening laparoscopy we can look with a camera during the surgery and see if you have severe scar tissue. If you have severe scar tissue we can often make a different incision…so this can increase the success of your procedure. If your tubes are not repairable or the scar tissue is too severe then we would offer you a refund of your surgical fee.

    1. Dr. Monteith says:

We should be able to help you with tubal reversal but it is harder to become pregnant with increasing age so I would not delay your decision for too long.

We do have many patients who become pregnant with tubal reversal after age 40. Most of the women who become pregnant after reversal are between the age of 40 and 43.

We charge $6400 total plus $125 to schedule and we are located in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Please be aware that starting April 1st 2019 the fee for reversal surgery will increase to $6,900 and the scheduling fee will increase to $150. If you want to avoid the higher fees then you should schedule your surgery before April 1st or start a Reversal Prepayment Account.

Patients pay in full and out-of-pocket at the time of scheduling. All you have to pay for in addition to the surgical fee is the cost of travel, hotel, and food.

The alternative treatment is in-vitro fertilization (IVF). Most IVF doctors will recommend you use donor eggs after the age of 42. A single cycle of IVF averages $14,000 and average success is 38% for each try. After age 40 IVF success decreases quickly.

If you would like to get started then the best first step is to send us your tubal ligation records for a free review. Your tubal ligation records can be obtained from the Medical Records Department in the hospital where your tubal ligation was performed. Occasionally your doctors office may have the records. Sometimes patients may not be able to obtain their tubal ligation records. We can still proceed with surgery without records because we can reverse most tubal ligation procedures.

    1. Dr. Monteith says:

      Patricia
The chance of natural pregnancy at age 54 is less than 1%. Your best chances would be IVF with donor eggs. The IVF doctors will not let you use your own eggs after the age of 42 or 43.

  4. Allison says:

What would be the soonest appt for surgery?

    1. Dr. Monteith says:

We typically schedule 3 to 6 weeks out from the time you call, schedule, and pay in full.

  5. Holly says:

Hello. I am looking to have this done but feel like I may be pushing the BMI (36.6) and need to lose weight before surgery. Can you tell me the BMI requirements and if I can start a payment plan before I hit the BMI or if I need to be below it before I can?

    1. Dr. Monteith says:

      Holly
It will be critical that when you arrive for surgery that your BMI be below 37. Some people try to cut it close, come in over the BMI, and if that happens your surgery would be canceled.

We require your BMI to be less than 37 to have surgery at our center.

You can check your BMI with our BMI calculator here: BMI Calculator

You should send us your tubal ligation records for a free review.

Patients pay in full and out-of-pocket at the time of scheduling. All you have to pay for in addition to the surgical fee is the cost of travel, hotel, and food. Patients stay in Raleigh a total of 2 nights and 3 days. The consultation is the first day, surgery the second day, and postoperative visit is the third day.

Please be aware starting April 1st 2019 the cost for tubal reversal surgery will increase to $6,900. The scheduling fee will increase from $125 to $150.

We do have a prepayment tubal reversal plan that allows you to save towards your reversal over a 3 year period.

Although $6,400 seems expensive…the alternative treatment in-vitro fertilization (IVF) average $12,000 to $14,000 and is about 40% successful!

The main advantage to tubal reversal is that every month you have a chance and you can become pregnant more than once. On average, about 2 out of every 3 women become pregnant with tubal reversal surgery.
