My Essure was inserted in May 2013. After 3 years of Essure discomfort, my Essure was reversed in January 2016.
So many people (including doctors) told me I was crazy to think Essure could be reversed and recommended hysterectomy. I opted for reversal anyway and hoped for relief of my Essure symptoms….and prayed for another pregnancy.
A HSG test on June 2nd showed left tube blocked with right tube almost blocked….but dye flushed out the scar tissue and opened right tube.
Now I just learned I am PREGNANT as of today, July 19!!!! Praying the baby is in the proper placement. Thank you Dr Monteith and the ENTIRE staff!

Essure Discomfort
Essure is the newest form of tubal ligation. Essure was approved by the FDA for use in the United States in 2001. Since approval more and more women have been opting to have Essure because it is advertised as being easier, non-surgical, and can be done in a doctor’s office with limited downtime. Unfortunately some women will have symptoms after Essure insertion.
Studies submitted to the FDA at the time of device approval suggest as many as 1 out of every 10 women can have pelvic/back pain for 12 months or more after Essure insertion.
Essure discomfort: What are your options?
If you are one of those patients have continual Essure discomfort then we encourage you to see your doctor for evaluation of possible causes.
If no cause can be determined and your symptoms started soon after Essure insertion then it is possible the Essure devices could be contributing. Although Essure is advertised as being less invasive, non-surgical, and easier than traditional tubal ligation the reality is if you have a Essure related discomfort then treatment is not as easy.
Many women with Essure discomfort are having to consider hysterectomy as their final treatment for Essure related side effects.
Essure discomfort: Our recommendations
If you are having Essure side effects we recommend either Essure removal or Essure reversal. We offer both procedures as outpatient surgical procedures. Both procedures will remove the devices intact and with a low risk of device fracture.
Essure removal. The devices are removed intact and the tube is closed in the area where the devices were removed. Pregnancy is not possible with this procedure.
Essure reversal. The devices are removed intact and the healthy remaining tube is then re-inserted into the uterine muscle. This allows the fallopian tube to remain open and pregnancy is possible.
