Having A Good Local Doctor Is Important
We successfully conceived 3 months after our reversal. We found out on July 31st the pregnancy was an ectopic pregnancy. It was in my right tube.
Dr. Monteith had informed me after tubal reversal surgery the right tube was attached to my intestines and he had removed adhesions (scar tissue).
I have a great doctor who contacted Dr. Monteith. We decided to act fast and I had two rounds of methotrexate. The ectopic pregnancy is over and we get to start trying again after my next cycle!

Early Pregnancy Monitoring After Tubal Reversal Surgery
The main risk of tubal reversal surgery is ectopic (fallopian tube) pregnancy.
The chance of an ectopic pregnancy after tubal reversal is 10% to 15%.
If diagnosed early, ectopic pregnancy can be treated with a methotrexate medication.
This stops the ectopic pregnancy from growing and allows the body to absorb the pregnancy from the tube.

- Requests patients make a follow up with their local doctor within a month of reversal surgery to discuss the possibility of ectopic pregnancy
- Provides all patients with a copy of their records and a letter of his recommendations on monitoring and treating ectopic pregnancy
- With the patient’s permission sends a copy of his letter of recommendations directly to the patient’s local doctor
- Nursing staff are available by phone to talk to surgery patients if they have concerns
Can You Get Pregnant Again After Ectopic Pregnancy?
The goal of early monitoring after tubal reversal is to diagnose ectopic pregnancy early and before theses pregnancies can damage the fallopian tube. If an ectopic pregnancy is advanced the tube and pregnancy will need to be surgically removed.

Early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy allows early medical treatment. Early medical treatment with methotrexate will protect the tube and future successful pregnancy is possible.
