Essure Reversal or IVF: Which Is The Best Treatment?
Choosing A Personal Choice was truly a leap of faith and one that I will never regret!
We had been told by two different reproductive endocrinologists (infertility specialist) as well as by my gynecologist that successful Essure reversal was not possible and that IVF was the only option to conceive.
I had done some research on the web and I had come across A Personal Choice as well as other clinics that perform Essure reversal, but because the experts we had consulted were so adamant that successful reversal and conception was not possible we decided to proceed with IVF. Unfortunately our IVF cycle failed.
We decided to forge ahead with another IVF cycle and one day sitting at work I had an epiphany, a strong sense that IVF was not the route for us. I again looked at the option of Essure reversal and I did some research on the success rates at the clinics offering Essure reversal, A Personal Choice stood out as the best of them all.

I called A Personal Choice and was provided with more information about the process. After discussion with my husband we decided to proceed with reversal surgery. Every step of the process from the initial contact to the actual surgery was very professional and smooth. The staff is excellent and made me feel comfortable and cared for and Dr. Monteith is a wonderful, skilled surgeon! Just one month shy of my 42nd birthday I gave birth to the most amazing little girl and I’m so grateful!
To anyone that is considering Essure reversal I strongly recommend A Personal Choice! IVF is not the only option. My one IVF cycle cost more than my travel, lodging and reversal surgery and with the reversal surgery I had the opportunity each month to conceive.
Thank you to the staff and Dr. Monteith!

If you would like more children after Essure sterilization then you have three options:
- Essure reversal
- In-vitro fertilization
- In-vitro fertilization and use a gestational surrogate
(1) Essure reversal surgery. Essure reversal surgery with Dr. Monteith can be successful. Should surgery be successful then patients will have the opportunity to become pregnant every month and more than once.
Dr. Monteith has performed more Essure reversal surgeries than any other physician and was the first physician in the world to report successful pregnancy after surgically reversing Essure sterilization.

The total cost of Essure reversal with Dr. Monteith is $7,500 and the chance of pregnancy is approximately 40%.
(2) IVF. A single cycle of IVF averages $12,000 to $14,000. The average success is approximately 38% but could be as high as 50% if the patient is under age 30.
If you have IVF with the Essure devices in place it is uncertain if the Essure devices decrease the success of IVF or increase the risks to a developing pregnancy. Although there are case reports of successful IVF when the Essure devices are in place, there are several studies suggesting IVF success is decreased and pregnancy miscarriage is increased in women with Essure who have preexisting tubal disease (hydrosalpinx).

(3) IVF with gestational surrogate. You will have to find someone who does not have Essure to carry the pregnancy (gestational surrogate). You will have to pay for the cost of IVF, the gestational surrogate, the cost of the surrogate’s health care during the pregnancy, and legal fees. There are potentially serious legal problems should either party change their mind during or after the pregnancy.
