Screening Laparoscopy

Unique To Our Practice

We are the only center offering patients an insurance policy during tubal ligation reversal surgery: Screening laparoscopy.

We never require a screening laparoscopy. This procedure is always optional. You should think of the optional screening laparoscopy as you would an insurance policy.

Although we are able to repair most tubal ligations, we offer patients who desire more certainty about their surgery an optional screening laparoscopy procedure. This procedure allows a quick evaluation of your fallopian tubes using a camera inserted through a small incision made inside your belly button.

If tubal repair is not possible then patients who choose the screening laparoscopy option will receive a refund of their surgical fee!

Patients who choose to have a screening laparoscopy at the time of tubal reversal surgery will pay (tubal reversal surgery fee + screening laparoscopy fee). If we cannot reverse at least one tube then patients who choose to have a screening laparoscopy will be refunded their tubal reversal surgery fee.

For more information: Advantages of screening laparoscopy during tubal reversal.

Scheduling Fee

When you are ready to schedule your reversal surgery, payment of a $150 scheduling fee is required to be added to the surgery schedule.

The scheduling fee covers the cost involved in planning and scheduling your surgery:

  • 20 minute medical history phone interview
  • registration paper work
  • surgical date selection
  • ordering pre-operative lab work
  • providing advice for travel and hotel reservations

The scheduling fee can conveniently be paid with a credit card.

What Our Patients Are Saying

“We had our surgery on 3/18/15 and on 02/02/16 our 7 pound 11 oz baby girl was born! I’m 34 years old and had tubal ligation done via clamps 8 years prior so this surgery really does work! 8 years later I had the reversal and 9 years later we were blessed with our little girl! So many doctors tried to talk us out of it-wanted us to do IVF to get our money-however praise God we went with this because it does WORK! Dr M is amazing and his staff! The area is beautiful where his office is, and if you do this procedure it will be the best money you ever spend!”

– Charlee-Belle M., Surgery

“From the very first phone call, the staff at A Personal Choice has been amazing! They have answered our numerous questions, concerns and have been amazing. They never give you false hope, but give you the complete story. I am so happy that we chose Dr. Monteith and his staff to make our dreams a reality. Can’t wait to start trying to have a baby. – Angela W., Essure Reversal

Each stage of the process was carefully explained in great detail: how the procedure works, what to expect during the procedure, what to expect after, possible side effects. Dr. Monteith himself is very knowledgeable and experienced and quite personable too. He has a great sense of humor and uses it generously to put patients at ease. I highly recommend him and his staff to anyone considering either a vasectomy or a vasectomy reversal.”

Does the essure reversal have a different cost than the 6,900?

    Dr. Monteith Reply

    Jessica
The cost for Essure reversal is $7,900. We are offering a $500 discount for surgeries completed before October 1st 2020.

We specialize in Essure reversal and Essure removal surgery. We can reverse Essure and give you the chance of pregnancy….or we can remove Essure and leave your tubes closed. The chance of pregnancy after Essure reversal is about 40%.

    More information: Essure reversal testimonials

Here is a video about Essure reversal with our center: Essure reversal surgery with Dr Monteith

If you would like to see if you are a candidate for Essure reversal, your first step would be to send us your records from your Essure insertion procedure and the results of your 3 month follow up x-ray.

The cost for the Essure reversal procedure and the Essure removal procedure is the same… $7,900. We are located in Raleigh, North Carolina.

No other clinic or doctor has the experience we do. The chance of pregnancy after Essure reversal is about 40%. If you are having symptoms that started soon after Essure most patients report improvement after removal of the devices. We do have a surgery prepayment plan.

More information: Successful Essure reversal with Dr Monteith

We charge a total of $7,900 for Essure reversal/removal plus $150 to schedule surgery. If you use our prepayment plan then you can contribute any amount as you are able but you must have the surgery paid for by three years. Is there a bmi limit?

    Dr. Monteith Reply

    Angela
We require your BMI to be less than 37 to have surgery at our center. As long as your BMI is less than 37 on the day of surgery then we would be able to have surgery at our center.

Here is a video we encourage you to watch: Advice on choosing a tubal reversal doctor

Our BMI limit is for patient safety during surgery. The higher a person’s BMI is then any surgery is more difficult, you have a higher chance of getting an infection in your incision, and people with larger BMI have more anesthesia complications.

You may want to consider gastric surgery. This will lower your BMI, improve your health, and make it easier to become pregnant. Also your pregnancies would be safer and healthier.

BMI is calculated based on height and weight. Your BMI is officially calculated on the day of your surgical consultation.

We do not charge patients based on BMI.

You can check your BMI with our BMI calculator here: BMI Calculator

You should send us your tubal ligation records for a free review.

Patients pay in full and out-of-pocket at the time of scheduling. All you have to pay for in addition to the surgical fee is the cost of travel, hotel, and food. Patients stay in Raleigh a total of 2 nights and 3 days. The consultation is the first day, surgery the second day, and postoperative visit is the third day.

We charge $6,900 total for surgery plus $150 to schedule.

We do have a prepayment tubal reversal plan that allows you to save towards your reversal over a 3 year period.

Although $6,900 seems expensive…the alternative treatment in-vitro fertilization (IVF) average $12,000 to $14,000 and is about 40% successful!

The main advantage to tubal reversal is that every month you have a chance and you can become pregnant more than once. On average, about 2 out of every 3 women become pregnant with tubal reversal surgery.

I’m 30 I have had 3 c sections I had a tubaligation done 6 years ago and an ablation shortly after I have had severe regret as soon as it was done I was told I could never be pregnant again is their any chance at all the reversal would help me?

    Dr. Monteith Reply

    Kayla
In general it is recommended that you do not become pregnant after having an ablation procedure.

Tubal reversal and pregnancy are possible if you are having regular periods of at least 3 days duration after your ablation. All pregnancies after ablation are considered high risk. Most IVF doctors will recommend using a gestational surrogate. IVF costs average $14,000 and you will have to pay the surrogate even more.

If you are not having periods then we would not consider you a candidate for reversal. There is no medical treatment to make your periods return.

Ablation will decrease the chance of pregnancy because it permanently damages the lining and muscle of the uterus.

If your periods are light then you do have some functioning endometriumm but we are not always certain if it is enough to allow for pregnancy. There is no accurate way to be certain.

We cannot provide an accurate percentage about the success of women getting pregnant after reversal with a prior ablation because there are no large scale studies looking at this. We have had women become pregnant naturally after tubal reversal with a prior ablation but don’t have a large enough group of these patients to provide meaningful statistics.

You can see our patients who have had pregnancy success after endometrial ablation here: Ablation pregnancies

Studies looking at women who have become pregnant after ablation show that about 50% will miscarry and about 50% will have live born babies.

You should read this article about endometrial ablation: Can you get pregnant after endometrial ablation and tubal ligation?

The ablation will decrease the chances of pregnancy but if you are having regular monthly periods of at least three days duration then pregnancy is certainly possible. If you are not having regular periods then I would advise against a reversal because pregnancy is not likely.

In general pregnancy is not recommended after ablation because each pregnancy is at higher risk; miscarriage, growth restriction, early delivery, c-section and adherent placenta. The literature suggests pregnancies are at higher risk but many will do well.

It is possible to become pregnant after having an endometrial ablation and then a tubal reversal and have a healthy pregnancy if you are having regular periods of at least three days duration every month. Please call us at (919) 977-5050 if you have any additional questions about tubal reversal.

To be considered a candidate by our office you need to be having regular periods (every month) and these periods need to last for at least three days.

All patients with ablations need a consult with me (Dr Monteith) either by phone or in person before they can schedule reversal surgery.

I’m 43 years old. I had my tubes cut tied and burned at 22. Is there even a point in trying to reverse now? My thyroid has been out of balance most of my life but is finally functioning correctly and my periods are about 5 to 6 days long. When I was young I was very fertile. Just don’t want to get my hopes up if there really isn’t a good chance . Thank you .

It is harder…but not impossible… to become pregnant with increasing age.
If you are having periods then each month you have a chance to become pregnant. Each year you have 12 chances. The older you become and the longer you wait…then each year you lose 12 yearly chances and each monthly chance becomes less every year you wait.

We do have many patients who become pregnant with tubal reversal after age 40. Most of the women who become pregnant after reversal are between the age of 40 and 43.

We encourage you to watch this video: Does tubal reversal work? What about for older women?

We charge $6,900 total plus $150 to schedule and we are located in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Patients pay in full and out-of-pocket at the time of scheduling. All you have to pay for in addition to the surgical fee is the cost of travel, hotel, and food.

The alternative treatment is in-vitro fertilization (IVF). Most IVF doctors will recommend you use donor eggs after the age of 42. A single cycle of IVF averages $14,000 and average success is 38% for each try. After age 40 IVF success decreases quickly.

If you would like to get started then the best first step is to send us your tubal ligation records for a free review. Your tubal ligation records can be obtained from the Medical Records Department in the hospital where your tubal ligation was performed. Occasionally your doctors office may have the records. Sometimes patients may not be able to obtain their tubal ligation records. We can still proceed with surgery without records because we can reverse most tubal ligation procedures.
