Can You Get Pregnant With One Tube Reversed?

reversing-one-tube-pregnancy-is-possibleOne tube reversal and pregnancy are possible.

We are often asked, “Can you get pregnant with one tube reversed?”

You can become pregnant with one tube reversed but there are some important facts you should be aware of when having reversal of one fallopian tube.

Pregnancy can certainly happen… it may take longer or you could get pregnant within 3 months!

Getting pregnant with one tube?

Obviously every woman is born with two ovaries and two fallopian tubes
(there are rare exceptions) but some women may have an ovary or fallopian tube surgically removed because of an ovarian cyst, endometriosis, hydrosalpinx, or scar tissue.

Some women have had their ovary or tube removed and have gone on to become pregnant multiple times before getting their tubes tied. These women are fully aware pregnancy is possible with only one tube.

Other women have had an ovary or tube removed after their tubal ligation and they are not aware pregnancy is possible with only one tube.

Chance of pregnancy with one tube?

An important question to ask yourself is how many ovaries do you have have with your one fallopian tube? Why does this even matter?

If you have one tube and two ovaries then the chance of pregnancy is about the same as if you were to have two tubes repaired…but it may take you longer to become pregnant.

One tube and two ovaries explained

When you ovulate (release an egg) from the ovary opposite the one remaining tube then your chances that month are less. When you release an egg from the ovary on the same side as the one remaining tube then your chances that month are much better. Ovulation may go from side-to-side but not always…you can sometimes release an egg from the same ovary for several months in a row.

In general most of our patients become pregnant within 12 months. If you have one tube and two ovaries then your chance of pregnancy should be about the same but it may take you twice as long to become pregnant.

One fallopian tube: The best situation

The best situation is when you have one tube and one ovary and the one ovary is on the same side as the one remaining tube. Why is this the best?

This situation is the best because every month you release and egg from the ovary that is next to your single tube. Every month you release an egg from this ovary and every month you have a good chance. If you have one tube and one ovary on the same side as the one tube then most patients become pregnant within 12 months of surgery.

Chances of pregnancy with one tube?

tubal-reversal-specialists-in-actionGetting pregnant with one tube is certainly possible. The chances of pregnancy are just as high as if you have two tubes reversed but it may take longer to become pregnant. When you have one tube repaired if is also very important that you have early pregnancy monitoring and minimize the risk of ectopic pregnancy.

Pregnancy is certainly possible with one tube but all efforts must be made to protect the health and integrity of the one remaining tube that has been rejoined.
