First Pregnancy After Ligation Reversal: Georgia Peach is Pregnant!

georgia becomes pregnant after ligation reversalStarting a new job and getting through the Christmas and New Years holidays were taking up a lot of my time, but in the back of my mind was the fact I was due to start my menstrual period in the middle of December. And of course, I did, right on time. This time though, it was a bizarre pattern totally abnormal for me. I started having pain on my left side that wasn’t severe but just noticeable. I knew I had ovulated on the left side as I usually feel pains from ovulation.

Tubal Reversal In February and Pregnant By December

This cycle was mostly heavy spotting from the beginning, and it never stopped. I was getting frustrated, worrying I was beginning to get endometriosis or maybe an ovarian cyst. I found out my insurance with my new job should start in early January, so I decided that I would wait until it had to go to the doctor to find out why I was having this weird cycle.

I discussed this abnormality with a group of ladies that I had made friends with that all had their ligation reversal surgeries done at A Personal Choice. We had formed an email group of sorts and talked pretty frequently. The ladies in that group suggested I take an EPT ( Early Pregnancy Test) even though I had started on time. I blew them off, saying there is no way I could be pregnant. I mentioned it to Kevin and he agreed with me.

Early Pregnancy Monitoring After Tubal Reversal

I woke up the morning of New Years Eve, to get ready for work, and the last EPT I had in the house stared at me from the cabinet in my bathroom. I decided to test, “just because” , and even scolded myself as I did for wasting a test. Before I set it on the counter I saw two lines forming. I walked out of the bathroom not trusting what I thought I was seeing, got my coffee, came back, and sure enough it was very strongly positive.

I woke Kevin up and showed him the test; we just stared at each other in disbelief. I left for work, and on my lunch break went to a local clinic for a repeat test which also came back positive. Kevin and I discussed this throughout the day, and we decided since I had been bleeding and it was likely a miscarriage about to happen, I should go to the ER instead of waiting for my insurance to start. We were elated that we had in fact gotten pregnant, but we were also very aware the likelihood of it being a miscarriage – or even worse an ectopic pregnancy.

Pregnancy Risks After Tubal Reversal

After work, I went to the ER and we spent all of New Years Eve there. I explained to the ER doctor I was possibly having a miscarriage but due to increased risk of ectopic associated with tubal reversal surgery I wanted to be checked out ASAP by following the Early Pregnancy Monitoring Protocol recommended by A Personal Choice. It was important I be safe rather than sorry.

Pregnant 10 months after ligation reversal.I had blood tests ran, and an ultrasound. The blood tests returned with an HCG level in the 1300’s, and the ultrasound showed nothing abnormal outside of the uterus, and saw what “may or may not be” a sac inside the uterus, but it was to early to tell for sure. They suggested I have a repeat blood draw in 48 hours and ultrasound when my numbers reached 2000.

Since this was Thursday night, I decided to just follow up with an OB GYN on Monday as they said that it definitely wasn’t an ectopic, and there wasn’t anything I could do about miscarrying at that point. Monday would be well past 48 hours and I would either be at 2000 or not. The ER doctor said that should be fine and finally, at 1 am, we were able to leave. It was bitter sweet, knowing that I could get pregnant but also sad that this may not be a “sticky bean” and we may loose this baby.
