Pregnancy is possible, and it’s much easier than you think. Tubal reversal procedures can be safe, successful, and affordable.

What goes into getting a tubal reversal NC surgery? Read on to find out.

Understanding Tubal Reversal NC Surgery

Did you know that tubal reversal NC surgery is an outpatient procedure? As long as the surgery takes place at a high-quality specialty center, everything can be fast and efficient. Premium centers will go above and beyond to enhance the patient experience.

Tremendous Success

It’s incredible how successful tubal reversal surgery can restore natural fertility. You’ll finally have the chance to become pregnant again every single month! If you also start practicing lifestyle habits to boost fertility, the chances of pregnancy are even more significant.

You may even have the opportunity to become pregnant more than once. Can you imagine what it would be like starting your family? It’s an exciting thing to think about.

Expert Staff

Along with choosing premium centers with all of the latest comforts, you’ll also want to look for a practice with experience. Professional practices will dedicate themselves to infertility surgeries.

It’s also helpful to find out what the surgical techniques are for the center you’re choosing—some of the best centers pioneer techniques. Innovations allow surgery centers to perform the entire procedure outside the hospital setting and with fast recovery times.

Success Rate of Unblocking Fallopian Tubes

You’re probably aware that there are different types of tubal ligation procedures. All of these procedures block the fallopian tubes in one way or another. Since there’s more than one way to have your tubes tied, there’s more than one way to perform the reversal procedure.

How Does the Reversal Procedure Work?

How exactly does a tubal reversal work? It’ll depend on the facility where you’re having the surgery performed. You’ll probably start the preparation process over the phone if the facility is far away.

Phone Interview

Specialty centers can perform evaluations using phone, fax, and email. You’ll also be able to take care of all you’re scheduling needs.

You’ll need to arrange travel plans to the facility when it’s time for your surgery. Even though you won’t need to stay the night at a hospital, you might need to take care of pre-op and post-op appointments for a few days. Typically, 2 to 3 days will be the full extent to which you’ll need to carve out time.

Preoperative Consult

The day before your surgery, you’ll have a preoperative consult. The preoperative consult is an excellent opportunity to ask any lingering questions you might have.

Even if your questions seem silly or small, bring them up. It’s better to have all the information you need before moving forward.

Providing Medical Records

What type of medical records is the surgery center going to need? Potential patients will need to send copies of their infertility records. You’ll also want to provide the center with your tubal ligation operative and pathology reports.

Do you have any diagnostic tests or images? Provide those to the office staff to review as well.

It’s always best to have your records reviewed before the surgery. However, if you don’t have all the required documentation, that doesn’t mean you’re out of luck.

Sometimes records aren’t available because of the state you live in. The good news is that a quality center will be able to evaluate you based on the information you provide.

Often times they’ll be able to provide a successful repair for most tubal sterilization procedures. In other words, medical records aren’t always mandatory to have the reversal surgery performed.

Tubal Operative Report

Send copies of your tubal ligation operative report to the center where you’ll be having the reversal surgery. The center will then be able to review your operative report for free. A free operative report review is a great opportunity to make sure that you’re a candidate for tubular reversal surgery.

Potential Scheduling Fees

We mentioned that you could do most of your scheduling virtually or over the phone. However, it’s also important that you’re aware of any potential scheduling fees. The best centers will have some type of scheduling fee to ensure that their time is well spent.

You’ll usually pay the fee as you begin the scheduling process. The fee helps cover the cost of receiving professional medical care. The total cost of your reversal procedure will depend on the nature of the surgery.

Healthcare Advice

Typically you’ll speak to a nurse for anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes during the screening process. If, for any reason, the surgery would be unsafe for you, the screening process is a great opportunity to find out. However, in a lot of cases, most patients are great candidates for outpatient surgery.

Blood Tests and Pre-existing Conditions

If you have any pre-existing conditions, notify the doctor during your evaluation. The only test that the surgery center is going to require is a blood test.

getting-tubal-reversal-in-nc-with-dr-monteith-is-easyThe blood test will screen you for anemia before receiving the surgery. To qualify, you’ll need hemoglobin above 10 mg/dL. You’ll also need a hematocrit that’s above 30%.

Your body mass index BMI will need to be below 36.9, and this is just for your safety. You can use this free BMI calculator to see where you stand: BMI Calculator

These standards allow for optimal surgical results and improved airway management safety. If there are any high-risk medical conditions, the surgery center might require additional testing.

All of the testing you’ll need to complete will be discussed at the time of scheduling. When scheduling your surgery, you’ll work with nurses to coordinate a day that works great for you.

What to Expect on Surgery Day

After the preoperative consult, you’ll have the surgery the next day. Tubal ligations work by making a small 2 to 4-in incision right above the hairline of your pubic hairs. The outpatient procedure only takes about 60 minutes to complete.

For more complex situations, the procedure might take a little bit longer. After the surgery, you’ll return to a recovery area.

Recovery Center

Specialty centers will have accommodation set up with a nearby recovery center. As you recover from the procedure, you’ll have all of the help you need.

Highly trained healthcare professionals will be there to make sure you’re comfortable and cared for. The day after the surgery, you’ll go to the center’s office for a postoperative evaluation. The postoperative evaluation is an opportunity to learn how the surgery went and ask any other questions you might have.

Once your postoperative evaluation is complete, you can go back home! As soon as you feel comfortable, you can start the journey of becoming pregnant.

Returning to Everyday Life

How long will it be before you can return to work? Usually, patients need a full 10 days. After 7 to 10 days, you’ll feel like yourself again.

As far as pregnancy goes, a lot of patients are able to become pregnant within the first year of their reversal surgery.

How successful is the surgery? Again, your results are going to depend on the center where you choose to have the surgery performed.

Quality centers are usually able to provide a high success rate. By visiting the center’s website, you should be able to find out what pregnancy statistics and success rates they have.

The best centers will have patient updates with newborn photos documenting their success. Just look for the pregnancy testimonials and patient reviews section of the center’s website.

Tubal Coagulation Reversal

Did you have tubal coagulation or a monopolar burning? Did you have a bipolar ligation? Using advanced reversal techniques, even tubal coagulation can be undone.

Irving, Parking, Pomeroy, and Uchida resections are also reversible. Hysteroscopic tubal occlusions, such as the Adiana or Essure procedures, are also reversible!

Tubal Rings and Clips

Do you have a tubal ring, like Yoon or Falope? Tubal clips and rings are easy to remove. For instance, patients with Hulka or Filshie clips can have them obliterated. If you had a tubal ligation procedure that we didn’t list in this, it might still qualify for a reversal.

Microsurgical Tubal Anastomosis

Tubal ligation reversal is officially called microsurgical tubal anastomosis. The procedure involves microsurgical techniques that efficiently open and then reconnect your fallopian tube segments.

Usually, there are 2 fallopian tube segments that are remaining. If you only have 1 fallopian tube, pregnancy is still possible.

There will a distal tubal segment, which is the fimbrial end of the tube and is located right next to the ovary. You’ll also have the proximal tubal segment emerging directly from the uterus.

Once the surgeon opens the locked ends of the tubal segments, they carefully place a stent. The flexible stent is then weaved through the fallopian tube segments and directly into the uterine cavity.

Fallopian Tube Opening

The flexible stent helps guarantee that the fallopian tube remains open all the way to the fimbrial end. The new openings are drawn together as surgeons place a suture underneath each fallopian tube segment.

An absorbable retention suture is placed underneath the tubal edges. Permanent sutures are placed in the tubal edges to help guarantee that the tubal edges stand in the right place without any tension. The retention suture also helps prevent the tubal segments from pulling apart.

Permanent Sutures

Permanent sutures align the muscular and outer layers of the fallopian tube. The procedure leaves the inner layer of the fallopian tube alone.

After the sutures are in place, the surgeon can carefully remove the flexible tubal stent from the fimbrial end of the tubal segment. The sutures are non-absorbable and permanent. Permanent suture prevents excessive scar tissue from forming and causing the fallopian tubes to heal closed.

Do You Need a Fimbriectomy Reversal?

Did you have a fimbriectomy tubal ligation? The rare procedure requires a special tubal reversal nc method. The method is called a microsurgical salpingostomy.

After creating a small opening on the end of your remaining fallopian tube, the surgeon will use a microsurgical needle electrode. The new opening will be gently enlarged and folded back.

Now the internal endothelial lining can emerge. A healthy endothelial lining is covered in hair-like projections called cilia. The tubal opening will be able to capture an egg as it releases from the ovary.

Tiny sutures are carefully placed along the circumference of the folded back endothelial lining. The chances of pregnancy after fimbriectomy reversal aren’t as high as a standard tubal reversal.

Typically patients see a success rate of anywhere from 15% to 40%. The success rate depends on the length and health of the remaining fallopian tube.

Risks Involved With Tubal Reversals

Are there any risks or complications you should be aware of with the tubal reversal surgery? There aren’t any medical treatments that don’t have some type of risk.

A tubal reversal surgery does present the risk of an ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy takes place when the egg attempts to grow outside of the uterus. Now would be a good time to learn about the symptoms of ectopic pregnancies.

These pregnancies occur inside the fallopian tube. However, anyone can have an ectopic pregnancy at any time. The risk is increased after any condition disturbs the normal function of your fallopian tubes.

Ectopic Pregnancy Risk Rate

Someone who hasn’t had a tubal reversal surgery will have approximately a 3% risk of ectopic pregnancy. Someone who has had a tubal reversal surgery will have an increased risk of 10% for an ectopic pregnancy. The good news is that there are efficient ways to manage tubal reversal risks.

Managing Risks

Experienced doctors will have multi-part plans to help manage ectopic pregnancy risks. These plans include patient education, reviewing medical records, and early monitoring techniques. Experienced nursing staff will be able to help you minimize whatever risks might be present.

Follow Up

Follow up with your local physician within 30 days of your surgery. The tubal reversal doctor can send the operative report to your primary physician.

Once you’re pregnant, let your primary physician know right away. From there, they’ll be able to help with early pregnancy monitoring protocol to keep you and your baby safe.
