Is Getting Your Tubes Tied Permanent?

Many women will regret having their tubes tied.
If you have regretted getting your tubes tied then you have probably asked:

“Is getting your tubes tied permanent? Can my tubal ligation be reversed?”

Your tubal ligation does not have to be permanent and many women have been able to conceive naturally after having tubal reversal surgery.

Is Getting Your Tubes Tied Permanent?

Tubal ligation is intended to be permanent but does not have to be permanent.

Pregnancy can happen after a tubal ligation in the following situations:

  • tubal ligation failure
  • in-vitro fertilization
  • tubal reversal surgery

Tubal ligation failure. It is possible to become pregnant if you accidentally have a tubal ligation failure. Tubal ligation failure happens in about 1% of patients and most of these pregnancies are fallopian tube (ectopic) pregnancies. If you want to become pregnant then you should not count on a tubal ligation failing.

In-vitro fertilization. This treatment can bypass blocked tubes. In-vitro can be expensive and does not guarantee pregnancy.

Tubal reversal surgery. This treatment can be half the cost and twice as successful as a single cycle of in-vitro fertilization.
