This is a continuation of a series submitted to A Personal Choice by a previous patient, Georgia Peach. Mrs. Peach, whose real first name is Tanya, came to our center for ligation reversal surgery in 2009. She wanted to blog about her her journey to conceive after her ligation reversal. This is a next part of her blog series about her experiences after the ligation reversal procedure.
After Ligation Reversal: OPK, Stress, and HSG
After BBT charting and using ovulation predictor test kits (OPK’s) for a while, 7 months after surgery I decided to take a break. That was in September. Tragedy had come to visit our family in the form of my mother-in-law’s passing from cancer. The next couple of months after that were extremely hard on Kevin, and we really weren’t focusing on trying to conceive.
Getting Pregnant After Ligation Reversal
Getting pregnant after ligation reversal was, of course, in the back of our minds, but we were just trying to get through the first holidays without my mother-in-law with us. Each month, I would start my period and we would just shrug and say, “Maybe next month.”
HSG After Ligation Reversal
Since quitting my job as a receptionist, I had no health insurance. We discussed it and decided that when we received our tax refund we would get a hysterosalpingogram x-ray (HSG) to check and see if my tubes were open or not. That would be close to the 12 month mark as recommended by A Personal Choice. We felt better about having a plan.
Stress And Trying to Conceive After Ligation Reversal
The stress of not having a job sometimes made me second guess my choice to try to have another baby. Could we really afford it? How would we make ends meet? No one was going to hire a pregnant woman and I wasn’t seeming to find a job to get into securely before starting to trying to get pregnant after my ligation reversal. Kevin would simply say, “It will be OK.”; however, I was really second guessing our decision. Maybe we shouldn’t have the HSG done. It hadn’t happened as of yet, and I was really feeling like this was fate’s way of saying pregnancy wasn’t meant to be.
In the middle of December, I got a job offer as a secretary for a local propane company right in our town. It was a great opportunity and best of all – health insurance that would kick in without too long of a waiting period! We were excited then that we may be able to have the HSG done before tax time.
Things were looking up. The job came at a perfect time, we were getting back on our feet financially, I was starting to feel better about my chances of getting pregnant, and I had decided to start back again in January. It seemed a good way to start the new year to us, so- once again- we had a plan for the HSG and getting pregnant!
