My journey at A Personal Choice began in January of 1997 as an employee. I came to the reversal specialty center as a surgical technician in the operating room. At that time, we were a multi-specialty outpatient surgery center.
While I rotated to work with different surgeons daily, I found I was requesting to work with Dr. Berger more often. He was a great teacher to the staff and a compassionate, meticulous surgeon.
I enjoyed watching him interact with his patients and his attention to detail during the microsurgery procedure. I felt very secure about his skills and his tubal reversal technique.
I had three c-sections and a ligation and resection type of tubal ligation with my last pregnancy. I eventually remarried and my new husband did not have any children. We decided to proceed with tubal ligation reversal surgery. My tubal ligation had been 12 years earlier and I was 35 years old when I decided to have my tubes untied.
We both agreed to give sterilization reversal a try. Fortunately, my reversal of tubal ligation was a success. I had two babies after having my tubes untied. Shortly after delivery of my second tubal reversal “Berger Baby”, I reluctantly left work to raise my two babies who were both under the age of two.
It has been 11 years since I walked through the tubal reversal recovery room and placed my faith in Dr. Berger and his staff at A Personal Choice. I have now returned to work at the reversal center because I believe in their mission. My experience as both a patient and a reversal staff member allows me to share my unique perspective with others who are considering having their tubes untied and with those who have already had reverse tubal ligation. I think patients want to see someone who can identify with what they are going through, from post operative issues, stress (yes, I took a pregnancy test everyday for three weeks after surgery!), support, or just a sounding board (yes, I used to get angry every month my period showed up!). It’s important to have someone who can empathize with what you went through because they also went through it. I sincerely hope I will serve as a Tubal Reversal Ambassador and a provide a personal testament to the great work of Dr. Berger and his very caring tubal reversal staff.
