A PERSONAL CHOICE
OUR PRACTICE
Welcome to A Personal Choice! Formerly known as Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, we have been performing tubal ligation reversal and corrective surgery for blocked fallopian tubes since our practice was created in 1997.
Our practice, under the leadership of Dr. Gary Berger, was responsible for pioneering innovative techniques in microsurgical tubal reversal surgery. These advancements have allowed tubal reversal to be affordable, to be performed in an outpatient setting, and not require overnight hospitalization. Since 1997 we have performed more than 12,000 tubal surgeries and we are responsible for more successful tubal ligation reversal surgeries and tubal reversal babies than any other practice in the world. Under the leadership of Dr. Monteith and Dr. Harris, our practice continues to provide exclusive specialization in tubal surgery in a surgical center devoted exclusively to infertility surgery.
CHARLES W. MONTEITH, M.D
TUBAL REVERSAL DOCTOR
Dr. Monteith is the Medical Director of A Personal Choice. Dr. Monteith is more than just a tubal reversal doctor; he is a fertility surgeon who helps both men and women restore their ability to become naturally pregnant after tubal ligation and vasectomy.
Dr. Monteith has been in practice since 2001 and he has dedicated his career to helping both women and couples through corrective microsurgical tubal surgery.
Dr. Monteith’s career as a tubal reversal doctor began in 2008. After completing a microsurgery training course at the Cleveland Clinic and a six month training mentorship in tubal ligation reversal surgery under Dr. Gary Berger, Dr. Monteith began to exclusively specialize in fertility surgery.
Since 2008, Dr. Monteith has gained extensive expertise in reversing all types of tubal ligations and in repairing blocked fallopian tubes caused by gynecological diseases. Dr. Monteith currently offers tubal reversal, Essure reversal, Essure removal, and vasectomy reversal surgery. He also offers minimally invasive His Choice No Scalpel vasectomy.
Dr. Monteith has the distinct privilege of being the first surgeon in the world to publish studies in leading medical journals on successful reversal of Essure sterilization. He is responsible for more successful Essure reversal surgeries and Essure reversal babies than any other doctor in the world.
After years of providing tubal ligation reversal to his female patients, Dr. Monteith sought extra training in both minimally invasive vasectomy reversal surgery and no-scalpel vasectomy.
Dr. Monteith is more than a tubal reversal doctor. He is an Ob/Gyn with a career in understanding how sterilization impacts men, women, couples, and their families.
ROBERT PAUL HARRIS, M.D.
TUBAL REVERSAL DOCTOR
Dr. Harris is a highly experienced OBGYN and surgeon that will further enhance our legacy of compassionate, life-changing care.
Dr. Harris began his medical journey at UNC–Chapel Hill, followed by medical school at Wake Forest School of Medicine. He went on to complete an internship in general surgery and a residency in obstetrics & gynecology, experiences that allowed him to combine his love of surgery with a deep commitment to patient care.
For more than 25 years, Dr. Harris has practiced obstetrics and gynecology in North Carolina, building a career rooted in skill, compassion, and meaningful patient relationships. Through an extensive mentorship with Dr. Monteith, he will become an expert in tubal reversal and vasectomy reversal. He is excited to focus his expertise on procedures that restore fertility and open the door to new possibilities for family.
At A Personal Choice, every patient is treated with warmth, understanding, and respect. Dr. Harris fully embraces this philosophy and is committed to continuing our mission: providing highly skilled surgical care in a supportive environment where patients feel confident, cared for, and hopeful about their future.
When not in the operating room, Dr. Harris enjoys life on a small farm with his wife and their horses. They love to ride and travel to horse shows and rodeos out West. He also treasures time with his grown children and the simple joys of reading, golf, and card games with friends. These experiences remind him daily why family is so meaningful — and why helping others grow theirs is such an important calling.
We are honored to have Dr. Harris as part of our team, and we look forward to the many families who will benefit from his skill, compassion, and dedication to the mission of A Personal Choice.

Experience With Complicated Surgeries and High Risk Pregnancies
During their careers before A Personal Choice, Dr. Monteith and Dr. Harris both participated in private obstetrics practices, delivered babies and helped care for many high-risk pregnancies. They both developed extensive experience in laparoscopic surgery and the surgical treatment of advanced gynecologic problems. Dr. Monteith and Dr. Harris bring with them the experience of providing over ten and twenty five years of obstetrical care and this allows them to better counsel tubal surgery patients about pregnancy concerns before patients have tubal reversal surgery.
Dr. Monteith and Dr. Harris are members of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. They are both board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and by virtue of their board certifications Dr. Monteith and Dr. Harris possess special knowledge, skills and professional capability in the medical and surgical care of women related to pregnancy and disorders of the female reproductive system.
Dr. Monteith and Dr. Harris left successful practice in obstetrics and gynecology after seven years and twenty five years respectively. They felt their true calling as physicians were in using his skills to help those who other doctors would not or could not help. They felt their true calling as surgeons were in using their skills to perform procedures, which make significant differences in patient’s lives. This is their view of what it truly means to be both a physician and a surgeon.
