Reversing Sterilization
Sterilization reversal surgery can be very successful for most women.
In general, approximately 2 out of 3 women who have surgery to reverse sterilization at
A Personal Choice will become pregnant. Most of these will be successful and normal pregnancies.
The main risk of having surgery to reverse sterilization is becoming pregnant! Each pregnancy after sterilization reversal has a 10% chance of being an ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy in the tube). Although ectopic pregnancy can be serious, these pregnancies can be safely treated with medication as soon as they are detected.
Early pregnancy monitoring protocol recommended by Dr. Monteith
We encourage our patients who become pregnant after having surgery to reverse sterilization to have early pregnancy testing and monitoring of their pregnancy hormone levels. We ask patients to perform a pregnancy test when they miss their menstrual cycle and to have early pregnancy testing with their doctor within a week of missing their menstrual cycle and having a positive pregnancy test.
