My husband and I stopped trying to conceive in January because I did not want to have children after the age of 40. We had resigned ourselves to the fact that it just wasn’t going to happen and were trying to look forward to some of the benefits of not having another child. When we realized I was pregnant, we were in shock. We had a miscarriage in June of 2010 and were devastated. So this time, we just waited day after day for me to have a miscarriage.
When I was still pregnant at 7 weeks with no sign of a problem, we decided I should probably see a doctor. We just knew an ultrasound was going to reveal that the embryo was in my tubes and was going to have to be removed. We were extremely surprised to learn that the baby was exactly where it was supposed to be and that everything looked great. We are still trying to accept the fact that I am pregnant and that this time, things might actually work out in our favor.
