What is a fimbriectomy tubal ligation?
All tubal ligations cause tubal blockage. Tubal clips (Fishie or Hulk clips) and tubal rings (Falope or Yoon rings) cause the tube to be blocked in the area where the clip or ring is placed. Tubal ligations involving burning (coagulation) or tying and cutting (ligation and resection) cause the tube to be blocked in the middle.
Essure intra-tubal micorinsert devices block the inside of the tube in the very begining of the fallopian tube.
Fimbriectomy tubal ligation is an unusual type of tubal ligation, which causes the tube to be blocked on the very end. Fimbriectomy tubal ligations are becoming more common.

Technically a fimbriectomy involves tying off the end of each fallopian tube and cutting off the end of the tube. The end of the tube is where the fimbrial tissue is found. The fimbrial end of the tube is important because the fimbria direct the released egg into the tube where fertilization occurs.
Can a fimbriectomy be reversed?
A fimrbiectomy tubal ligation can be reversed. A fimbriectomy reversal involves opening the closed end of the tube and creating a new opening. Sometimes this is also referred to as a neosalpingostomy (neo = new and salpingostomy = opening in the tube).
The chances of pregnancy after reversal of tubal ligation are between 60% to 90% for most tubal ligations when the tube is rejoined in the middle. The chance of pregnancy after reversal of fimbriectomy type tubal ligation range from 15% to 40%. The chances of pregnancy after fimbriectomy are more favorable if the remaining fallopian tube is long and healthy and if the mother is younger than 37 at the time of fimbriectomy reversal.
