Dr. Monteith
What an amazing year! I got pregnant less than two months after my Essure reversal surgery. Now I feel so blessed to have a son.
He was born a little early at 36 weeks and 5 days because I came down with preeclampsia and HELLP again. He was 5 lb 4 oz but he is healthy and was able to leave the hospital with me. He joins his big sister who is 5 years old. I feel like my family is now complete thanks to you and the staff of A Personal Choice.

Expert In Reversing Essure
Dr. Monteith was the first physician in the world to report successful pregnancy after surgically reversing Essure. Since the case report of the first successful Essure reversal, Dr. Monteith has performed over 200 surgeries for reversing Essure to allow pregnancy and removing Essure to treat abnormal symptoms.
Reversing Essure can provide patients an alternative treatment to in vitro fertilization.
After reversing Essure the chance of pregnancy is approximately 35% to 40%. In comparison a single cycle of in vitro fertilization can provide a 38% chance of pregnancy.
Although there are successful case reports of successful IVF pregnancies in patients who have the Essure devices in place, little information exists to counsel patients about the success of IVF when the Essure devices are allowed to remain or the potential risks to pregnancy.
Dr. Monteith performs Essure reversal in his surgery center in Raleigh, North Carolina. The procedure takes about 80 minutes to complete and is performed as an outpatient procedure. The surgery is safe and the main risk is uterine rupture in future pregnancy. Only one patient has reported having this unique Essure related complication after reversal surgery and both the patient and her baby did not have any significant complications.
Dr. Monteith estimates the risk of uterine rupture after Essure reversal is less than 5% to 10%. To minimize the risk of uterine rupture, Dr Monteith recommends a planned c-section delivery before the onset of labor.
