Reversing Essure: Thank You Dr Monteith
I want to start off by saying…How very grateful we are to Dr. Monteith and his colleagues.
Today we hold our son Nicholas because of Dr. Monteith’s amazing ability to reverse Essure tubal ligation. My husband and I had been trying to get pregnant thru IVF for one year, before we sought the help of Dr. Monteith. It was after 6 failed attempts with IVF and a lot of research, that we finally decided tubal reversal was going to be our best option to achieve a pregnancy.
So I made the call and scheduled the appointment. We are and have been living overseas in Amman, Jordan for nearly 4 years now, so this wasn’t an easy task to achieve.
16 hour plane ride for a total distance of 6122 miles!
We had to book flights and arrange transportation with family…which thankfully only lived 45 min away from the facility. I traveled 6,500 miles one way to have this procedure done and I can’t put a price on how much it was worth it! The tubal reversal was a success and we found out I was pregnant just 8 months following the procedure.
I had an uncomplicated pregnancy, followed by an unexpected early delivery.
Nicholas decided he was not going to wait for his scheduled c-section date of February 19, 2015. He decided January 28th was the day. Nicholas James was born a month early, weighing 6 pounds at birth and measuring just over 19 inches long. He is completely healthy and very strong. He did not need anything extra after delivery.

Followup Email About Delivery Experience
In a separate email this patient communicated she had a rupture of the uterus at 36 weeks. She was concerned if she had included this in her Tubal Reversal Birth Report she would scare other patients from having surgery. I asked her if she would give permission for me to share her experience with others because I thought it was helpful to let others know there are risks with any medical procedure and treatment. Risks of Essure Reversal Surgery
Hello Dr. Monteith,
As you now know we have had our son, however it was not without complications.
We had scheduled a c-section for Feb 19, which was 6 days earlier than his actual due date. We had discussed changing it if need be, based on how my appointments went. I didn’t want to take any chances on having a uterine rupture. I ended up going into labor much earlier. I was having what I thought were Braxton Hicks contractions, because I wasn’t in any pain. I went to my routine Dr. appointment, they did an ultra sound and everything looked really good. I told them what was going on, they observed me for over an hour and then sent me home.
Jon and I went back to the hospital and checked in by 7pm and he was born at 8:45pm. While in surgery they discovered 4 liters of blood in my abdomen and found that my uterus had ruptured. The Doctor explained how lucky we were. He also repaired the damage. Now I’m not exactly sure what caused the rupture, because I wasn’t in labor very long before they did the c-section. I’m still living overseas and even though we stressed to them how important it was for me not to go into labor prior to c-section…they seemed to think it was because Nicholas was still breech. I told them that didn’t matter.
But anyways just happy to report that me and baby are doing great. Thank you again for all you have done to make this possible! Oh and feel free to share the testimonial on Facebook. I want everyone to know there is hope of conceiving after tubal ligation!
What Makes Us Different?
We have had approximately over 40 Essure reversal pregnancies over the last six years and this has been the first report of a uterine rupture.
I think it is important to share this information with potential patients so they can make informed decisions about what treatment they would like to pursue when considering tubal reversal. There are risks with any treatment. There are risks with IVF. There are risks with tubal reversal. There are risks with Essure reversal. There are risks with adoption.
Our practice is different because we explain those risks on our website clearly and in great detail. We explain the risk of ectopic pregnancy with reversal surgery, we provide information on how to monitor and medically treat ectopic pregnancy, and we send this information to patient’s doctors. Some tubal reversal doctors barely mention this risk on their websites or commit one sentence to explain the most important tubal reversal risk.
Helping patients to be well-informed
We were the first to report successful reversal of Essure sterilization.
We advise our patients on the risk of uterine rupture associated with the gold standard procedure to reverse proximal fallopian tube blockage (tubouterine implantation). Since our first reports other doctors have attempted to duplicate our success and have even gone as far to claim to have different techniques that give better chances at pregnancy without the risk of uterine rupture. Unfortunately there are no medical reports which prove these other procedures can even allow someone to become pregnant, let alone, have a lower risk of uterine rupture.
I think this patient’ experience is illustrative of the kind of care we provide and how a well informed patient can have success. She flew a long distance to have Essure reversal because of IVF failure. She quickly became pregnant and because of her good communication with our staff and her doctors she was able to overcome the main complication of Essure reversal.
