What is a ligation and resection tubal ligation?
Ligation means to tie. Resection means to cut.
Ligation and resection tubal ligation is very common and is usually performed at the time of c-section or within 24 hours of a vaginal birth.
During this type of tubal ligation, the doctor ligates (or ties off) a small portion of the fallopian tube. The doctor then performs a resection (cutting and removing) the small section of tube that was tied. The causes separation of the fallopian tube and permanent tubal blockage.
To reverse a ligation and resection tubal ligation the closed ends of each tube needs to be opened and the opened ends surgically rejoined. Reversing ligation and resection tubal ligation provides a 60% to 70% chance of pregnancy.
