Uchida Tubal Ligation Is Reversible
Posted 12th November, 2014
We had our tubal reversal (Uchida) performed by Dr. Monteith in March 2010.
Our first tubal reversal baby girl was born March 2011. Our second tubal reversal baby boy was born December 2012. I was 35 when we had our tubal reversal surgery and 37 when we made our family complete.
Our experience was absolutely amazing.
Patient age: 39
Tubal ligation type: Uchida ligation and resection

What is a Uchida Tubal Ligation?
Uchida tubal ligation is a very uncommon type of tubal ligation, which was first described by Dr. Uchida of Japan in the mid-20th century. This tubal ligation involves cutting the tube in the middle and ‘dunking’ one end of the divided tube into tissue near the uterus. This extra step is thought to decrease tubal ligation failure.
A Uchida tubal ligation is very uncommon because it involves more steps than a standard tubal ligation, takes more time, and the risks of the tubal ligation procedure are slightly increased. This type of tubal ligation has the reputation of having the lowest failure rate of any type of tubal ligation.
In our experience we have found the Uchida tubal ligation to be very reversible. Often doctors have extra confidence in the Uchida technique and this often results in them removing less tube during the ligation. As a result, we have found patients who have reversal of this type of tubal ligation have longer tubal lengths than after other types of ligation and resection tubal ligations procedures.
