The best doctor for fimbriectomy tubal ligation reversal is… without a doubt… Dr Charles W Monteith of A Personal Choice Tubal Reversal Center.
A Personal Choice is located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Patients travel from across the United States for reversal of all types of tubal ligation.
Dr. Monteith has experience reversing tied and cut tubes, tubal coagulation, tubal rings, tubal clips, burned tubes, and Essure tubal occlusion.
The most common type of tubal ligation is tying, cutting and a removal of a small piece of each fallopian tube. This is often classified as ‘tied and cut’. Usually the doctor removes a small piece of the fallopian tube from the very middle portion of each tube.
One extreme version of tying and cutting is removing the very end portion of the fallopian tubes. The very end of the tube is the fimbrial end…when the end of the tube has been removed this is usually called a fimbriectomy tubal ligation.
Fimbriectomy tubal ligation can be challenging to reverse but Dr. Monteith has extensive experience with fimbriectomy reversal.

What is a fimbriectomy tubal ligation?
Fimbriectomy tubal ligation is a very uncommon type of tubal ligation. During this type of tubal ligation the doctor removes the ends of the fallopian tubes.
During most tubal ligation procedures, doctors remove a small section from the middle of each tube. These tubal ligations can be reversed by opening the closed ends of each segment and rejoining the tubes using microsurgery. The chance of pregnancy after reversal of these tubal ligations is around 70%.
A fimbriectomy reversal requires the ends of each tube be opened and this can be a very challenging type of tubal ligation to reverse.
The chance of pregnancy after fimbriectomy reversal ranges from 15% to 40%.
What are the alternatives to fimbriectomy reversal?
The alternative treatment to surgical reversal of fimbriectomy is in-vitro fertilization (IVF).
IVF costs average $14,000 to $20,000. The average chance of IVF success ranges from 30% to 40% and depends mostly on the age of the woman.
For some patients IVF can be more successful than fimbriectomy reversal…yes you read that correctly: for some patients IVF can be more successful than fimbriectomy reversal.
Fimbriectomy reversal may be a good option for women under that age of 35 of have had small segments (less than 3 cm) removed from the end of each tube.

Traveling from Alabama for fimbriectomy reversal!
We have been blessed with our little “Monteith Miracle!” Her name is Laylah. She is now 3 years old.
We had the hardest type of tubal to reverse (fimbriectomy reversal surgery), but Dr. Monteith was able to help us! We had our surgery in May 2009 and found out we were pregnant in December 2010. It was our first and only positive pregnancy test. Luckily for us, she was our “sticky bean.”
Thank you so very much, Dr. Monteith. God has surely blessed you and us! My husband and I had three daughters at the time of our surgery. We had been married (at that time) for 17 years…22 years now!
Our older daughters are now 20, 17, and 15. Laylah is definitely the light of all of our lives!
